  1. I agree, give it back. 'Not of merchantable quality' etc... I got a Dell M6500 with Win7 with my new job about 3 months ago. I was quite looking forward to it but I'm now pleased it wasn't my own £1400 that paid for it! It's OK'ish but there are loads of little niggles that don't seem to have any logical fix. Nowhere near as bad as what you're describing but annoying never the less.
  2. If I was the dealer I'd have reimbursed you for the fuel & then charged you £30 to park on the forecourt for the day! :-)
  3. I'm just surprised it took so long. I read through the multitude of answers fully expecting to have been beaten to it!
  4. The 'Pledge' trick worked for me except I used just a damp cloth & gave the belt a good hard rubbing! That was about 6 months ago; belts are starting to stick again now. I guess a wipe off each time you clean the interior (or just before the M.O.T. ) would do the trick.
  5. Buy a gasket & some carb cleaner. Add some cloths & some earbuds. Remove the pipe & undo the screws (Torx?) holding the throttle body on. Leave the electrical connector in place. (CAREFULLY) lift the throttle body away from the manifold. Clean off the old gasket & the front/back of the butterfly with carb cleaner. Get wife/girlfriend/boyfriend to sit in car, switch on ignition (CAREFULLY; DON'T START THE CAR! ) & then depress the throttle to open the butterfly so you can finish cleaning. Re-assemble. Drive away without (hopefully) any stuttering.
  6. I quite enjoy a 'quickie' of a Sunday morning... ... or did I misread your thread title?
  7. Don't buy one then. Simples!
  8. From above, through the engine bay. It's on the RHS of the engine (if you are standing at the front of the car) just above the bell-housing.
  9. Can you actually get hold of either of the 'R' cars easily now? A friend of mine was after a Scirocco R about a year(?) ago but had to settle for a GT as the dealers couldn't get hold of any R's for about 6 months. The Scirocco GT is a really nice car BTW.
  10. Good point but unfortunately I don't think Angry Birds will work on the XF.
  11. You could try cleaning the throttle body. Only a couple of quid for a gasket & some carb cleaner. Mine had similar symptoms & a TB clean sorted it. Are you getting any error codes flagging up?
  12. I tow with my vRS; 14' speedboat. About 500Kgs on it's trailer. The vRS tows it just fine & I haven't really noticed any fuel consumption problems. What you are proposing to tow though would be significantly heavier; might make a big difference.
  13. A friend had one; same as in the original post (but in black). I remember being surprised by how good it was. My memory of it is of a nice smooth, quiet and quick car with really comfortable seats. That's by the standards of the time of course; really difficult to say how it compares to a modern car without driving them side by side. Do it...
  14. I thought this had a 5cyl lump?
  15. (Unfortunately/worryingly)... I am now wondering... If Jeremy Clarkson wore a bikini; what kind of bikini would he choose? :S
  16. I'm admittedly not an expert but 335BHP in something the size of an Octy doesn't seem too bad to me. A lot of people commenting on the Auto Express review I just read seem to agree with you though.
  17. OK, sounds easy enough. (famous last words!) Thanks
  18. Better him being honest than him saying it's all fine & dandy. It all comes down to price; it's a bit rough & ready but it's worth the current 1400 quid bid for parts.
  19. As per my other thread; I have (hopefully) managed to get hold of new seals for my rear caliper (M.O.T. failure; leaking). I intend to swap them out soon. Has anyone done this? I have a wind-in/out tool. Is it just a case of removing the piston as per Haynes manual or is the piston attached to the handbrake mechanism somehow? (basically, I don't understand how the handbrake works/why you have to rotate the piston to remove it) T.I.A. Darren
  20. My rears were starting to get a bit worn (4 yrs old, about 17K miles) but the fronts had loads of tread on (3yrs old, about 12K miles). I was a bit annoyed by it as well until this afternoon. I have just been down for 4 new Conti SportContacts (old were Avon ZV3) & the difference is amazing! Even driving back through rush-hour traffic the car was noticeably quieter & smoother. The old tyres were definitely f****d! It's funny how you don't notice the gradual deterioration. I was going to replace the rear suspension bushes, as I'd noticed a 'shimmy' over manhole covers etc. It's gone now!
  21. I have ordered some parts from my local dealer for about £25. Hopefully they will be correct. I will put them in the 'Useful part numbers' sticky at the top of this forum. Might be worth sticking the kit in there as well if you find the number. Thanks for your help. Darren
