  1. That was a Skoda Dealership in the UK -he said that they HAVE to "fix it" before they can sell it
  2. Any car bought from a dealer will have had "the fix" done - talking to a salesman today he said that they have to do the work on any vehicle that comes in for part-ex
  3. has anyone checked that VAG have not used a "defeat" device to reduce the CO2 emissions of their petrol engines or have CO2 emissions now been put on the "back burner"
  4. It is strange how this "anti" diesel opinion has spread in the UK, I've asked a couple of friends and they have said - "you don't want to buy another diesel" - they have no knowledge of cars other than what they have heard ......... discuss diesel with a Frenchman and he has an opposite opinion - I have a 2009 SAAB Aero petrol which I would think pollutes more than my latest 110bhp Yeti diesel ........... and I think even at a low mileage I would still chose the 110bhp diesel over the same bhp petrol - at that level of performance I still prefer the diesel - so I think, even with all the current perceptions, (which I am sure are technically true), I'll opt for a 140/170 "old" diesel rather than the 1,2 petrol - Just in passing I only see a very few 1,4 Petrols for sale used
  5. are there the same diesel "problems" throughout the VAG range - i.e. the Audi A4 Avant 2,0 Diesel?
  6. that seems to be the case with Skoda although if you say look at BMW 320 Touring, (Estates) - the Diesel versions are the ones to go for and are good money I am tempted with a higher mileage BM 320D with Xdrive
  7. I have been looking at the prices on Autotrader UK as I am looking for a car for the UK - most are dealer cars
  8. The 1,2 Petrol versions seem to be holding their used values better than the 110bhp and even the higher bhp diesels are buyers being scared away by all this "diesel" chat? I'm looking at buying another, (used) Yeti and initially was 100% diesel are used diesel values going to fall even more in the next 12 months
  9. I am thinking about buying a 170bhp 4x4 to add to the two that we already have - we live in France and I want one for the UK I will buy used from a Skoda dealer - presumably I need the Chassis number to check if it has been "fixed" ......... I would want and "unfixed" car apart from not buying the car what are the ways to "unfix" it - will the dealer revert it back or would I have to have it remapped by a specialist tuner (on the Skoda site, can you use the reg number to check the car?)
  10. Presumably there will be no future problems with the French MOT, (CT) - none so far on the 2010 model Yeti that I have
  11. so the general consensus is that I should NOT have the "fix" done to our two Yeti's 140bhp and 110bhp diesels letter now received and both need a service ........ so need to explain to the French garage NOT to do the EA189
  12. When I changed my winter tyres to summer a few months ago I did notice that the scissor jack was struggling ....... almost to the point of deforming I now carry an old "bottle jack" that I have, must "make" a suitable mounting - I always carried a good piece of solid oak to position the jack on
  13. The rear badge has just fallen off - 35 degrees here today - first problem in 90,000 kms - must have come off on our way to the supermarket this morning what next?
  14. Before the Yeti we had 5 SAAB 9 5 Estates - including a Petrol 240bhp, (?) Aero and a Hirsch, (Dealer upgrade) 150bhp to 175bhp Diesel ....... I really miss the SAAB 9 5 Estate ........ maybe I'll feel that way about the Yeti
  15. Not been on the Forum for ages, so I was surprised to see that my beloved Yeti is being replaced. We live in rural France and we bought a Yeti 140 4x4 new in 2010 and then when my wife's 14 year old Fabia came to be replaced we bought a 6 month old 2016 Yeti 110bhp 4x2 diesel, (hardly much more than a new Fabia)...... both cars are manual Very pleased with both cars and perfect for what we need. I much prefer the 2010 140 4x4 as it really suits the roads better out here and I did not realise how effective the 4x4 system is until I drove the 4x2. I also prefer the gear ratios of the older car. We are now spending maybe 4 or 5 months in the UK and my plan is to buy a RHD Yeti to use in the UK...... I have been looking at low mileage, (less than 30,000 miles). cars. Dealer (listed) prices for mid to good spec cars are, (all 4x4 and manual) 2012 -SE or Elegence – 140bhp - £10k to £11k– similar price for a 2012 168bhp 2015 168 – Elegence - £14k or my local UK dealer has a S Outdoor 110ps – 2016(65 Reg) – 11,500 miles at under £13k touch wood my 2010 4x4 has been totally reliable ….. or have I just been fortunate? ……. What do I need to look out for on a 4 or 5 year 140/168bhp car ….. or should I opt for the 2016 110ps 4x4 Do not want leather .. neither here nor there for a SATNAV and never really use the entertainment system …… Really appreciate any advice
  16. yes I suppose I'll just "roll up" to Micheldever and let them persuade me - but I just don't want any mention of Sport, low profile, stiff sidewalls, extra performance and fantastic grip in extreme conditions ………….. I have found my winter tyres on 16" steel wheels to be far better than the Goodyear Excellence on 17" Alloys in all the above …….. they are amazing in rain and great on the autoroutes ……… but I realise that they will "melt" in the summer heat of SW France
  17. Still clueless I was attracted by the Rainsport 2 but on checking they do not produce them in 225/50/17 I have winter tyres so I think that the Good Year Efficient Grip Performance may be the best bet I have had Kumho's in the past but looking thru their range I have no idea which is the model to go for Prices seem to be in similar ranges - £65+ for budget - £100 to £110 for the less known good tyres and maybe £130 to £140 for the usual big names Not sure tyres dealers help as presumably they recommend what they want to sell It is a real minefield
  18. Thanks SP01's are about Euros160 each now from Pneu123 plus fitting Micheldever quote £544 fitted …… so that's a similar price ….. and I have always been happy with Micheldever They are also quoting £579 for Goodyear Vector 4 seasons …… fitted etc.
  19. My tyres have 3 or 4mm left - I know the minimum is 1.6mm - but presumably it's better to change them at 3mm http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/miscellaneous/2011-09/when-should-i-change-my-tyres/ Thanks for all your replies
  20. Not posted for some time but I've just been through a 20 page forum search on tyres I just need some simple advice Coming back to the UK next week, (I live in France) and need some new tyres In winter I run 16" wheels with winter tyres, very happy with these much better than the 17" on Goodyear What do you guys recommend that I replace my original Goodyear Excellence, (on 17 Spitzbergs) with. I'm not a "speed" merchant - I prefer a comfortable and quiet ride - but the rural road are not great here in France - do about 10k miles of mway driving each year plus about 5k miles of rural roads I usually buy my tyres from Micheldever tyres near Winchester Just a simple recommendation guys - not too expensive and all that Cheers
  21. Yes for me also - full size metal spare It does make the boot space smaller - and floor slightly about the rear sill line Even if you do not keep it in the boot all the time, (i.e. only take it with you for the greater distance journeys), it is better to spec it from new than as an after thought
  22. Fuel Gauge Problems 140bhp 4x4 Diesel yeti My Fuel gauge was about one quarter full and showing about 200 kms left - pulled into a supermarket in northern France and filled up, (brimmed it so I know that it was full) - Fuel gauge did not move to full stayed on the one quarter mark and still showed 200 kms DTE, (distance to end). Over the next 100kms and about 4 days it has crept up very very slowly to nearly three quarters full and 720 kms DTE. any ideas guys - anyone else had this problem?
  23. We live in France and have a LHD French spec Yeti .......... been in France for some time ........ but I still set the read out to MPG and MPH so that I can understand what's going on in this "metric world" Diesel prices in the UK are far more expensive than France ........... filling up in the UK now almost needs a discussion with my Bank Manager
  24. The boot in the Yeti is hopeless especially if you get a proper spare, (as we have) We are only my wife and I, 95% of the time, so we have no problems in putting the rear seats down or taking them out ....... big Xmas tree in the car today. but if you are looking for a big boot space, IMHO look elsewhere (I'm very pleased with my Yeti ...... and would buy another for my wife, but she reckons that to have two of the "same" car would be strange!)
