FABIA VRS now gone replaced with a MX5
curs replied to curs's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
yes you may be right on a track or on B roads but as a day to day car in town the Vrs is better. -
Had my heart set on a new shape MK3.5 mazda MX5.5 for a year or so but due to my parents being old I sometimes have to take them out together and needed a five door car, not always able to use my wife's Fabia sport. Sadly my father passed away a few months ago and left me some money in his will, after finding a mx5 I liked, a 2.0l sport tech, comes with 17" alloy wheels 6-speed manual transmission Front fog lights Front suspension strut bar Bilstein shock absorbers* Heated leather seats Bluetooth® connectivity Premium BOSE® audio system with 6-CD autochanger and seven speakers cruse controll climate controll As you can see a great spec car. IN my opinion in the looks department the mazda wins hand down but that not the most important thing its how it drives and I can say the VRS wins in this department hands down. Didn't realise how great the fabia Vrs was, on paper the Mazda is only 0.3 second short 0 to 62 than the VRS but I think the Mazda would have a very hard job keeping up with the Fabia and the Fabia ride is far far better. Road tax on Mazda £210 fabia £130, First service Mazda £217 Fabia about £120 and it goes on and on, MPG most 30MPG alway 38 plus on the VRS such a great little and cheep car to own. As I said my wife has a Fabia 1.2l sport on a 2008 plate in the ideal world would have like to keep the VRS and p/x the sport but was only left a few K. One more note it was was very hard to get a good p/x price ranged from £9600 to £10700 don't seem a lot for a car that had only covered 2.5k (and used over 5Ls oil) on a 60 plate, but that's the motor trade for you (should have sold it private) but never sold a car before. So all you Fabia drivers enjoy your car as you might not how good you little car is, in my opinion a great great little car and we still have a Fabia sport, sun now shining a little cold but now going out in the Mazda with the hood DOWN.

age of the person who drives a fabia vrs or monte carlo
curs replied to curs's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
That's great a very mixed age nice to see some young people buying the vrs. I wonder if we could do the same with the vauxhall, corsa vxr would it be a completely different story -
Don't know if this has been done before but I would be interested in the age of driver who drive the fabia vrs and monte carlo. When I see a fabia 1 or 2 always seem to be some old woman or man driving no disrespect as I am 53 and drive a vrs 60 plate with black roof and wheels my wife is 55 and she has a fabia 12 sport.

curs replied to nockmeister's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Have read somewhere that these are bad for your brakes as they hold the heat in -

anyone had a new engine or rebuid 14 tsi 180
curs replied to curs's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Actually you can check it anytime you want when the engine is stopped. There is an old myth about it has to be cold because the oil in circulation needs to drain into the crankcase for an accurate reading. Modern engine design is such that this does not happen to any major degree anymore. There is little oil in circulation. Probably less than a couple of ounces. Oil filters are now mounted where they retain the oil in them when the engine shuts down. Oil viscosity has been perfected to where temperature has no effect on volume. So the most accurate reading is obtained with the engine stopped for over 10 minutes. Then any residual oil has been returned to the crankcase. This was told by my sister-in-laws son who works for Vauxhall he also said Vauxhall cars oil checked when warm -

curs replied to curs's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
IT dident use all that oil it just showed a different leave as the engine was then warm, manaul says check when engine is warm 2 local dealers said must be checked when warm as if you check when cold you get a false reading and it will always show more oil when it is cold as the oil has drained to the bottom of the sump but with these engines that is not the time to check as with most cars. -

curs replied to curs's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Thanks for that. this morning I checked the oil on leavel ground when the engine was cold and it read just under half full, went for a short drive till the temp gage was at normal (middle)came home parked in same place and left for 15 mins checked and the oil was only just showing so topped it up to full mark will see how it is over the next 500 to 600 miles and keep a record and will check it in the same place and do the same. -
Hi has anyone had to have a new engine or engine rebuild for the fabia vrs (180) do to using lots of oil. I would like to have some proof to give to my dealer that some owners have had problems with oil consumption as I think I am being fobbed off. after 2.5k miles i used round about 5LT oil I am now getting worried as I wanted to keep this car over 3 years. the dealer has told me to fill it up and do 1k and fill it up again to see how much oil I have used and they will then get in touch with Scoda UK if it used what I am saying. One of the problems I am getting is I can never get the dip stick reading the same leave over night on a slight hill dip stick reads full (after filling) when warm at my mums reads less than half on dip stick how should I fill it? so I know it is full as I dont want to over fill thankyou.

3.5lt oil used in 2200 miles would be happy to have only used 1.5lts
-
if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay and mileage the reason I ask is I would have liked to trade mine in but was only offered £10.150 for a 60 plate black roof and wheels vrs mileage was 2286 under 3k.
-
I have skoda ones in both my fabias but think they are rubbish compared to the nice thick heavy ones in my daughters ibiza.
-
thankyou
-
thankyou for all your comments have decided to keep the fabia as cant find anyone who will give me a good p/x price range from 10k to 10.7k this was from the main dealer and an independant sucks hay! 60 plate vrs black roof black wheels car dec 2010 under 3k miles. The thing is i have 27 months warranty left so will put the oil thing to the back of my mind and enjoy the car. I will get the dealer to have a look at it as he said if it dosen't settle after 3k.
-
Drive it hard, or you my find it will end up like mine uses more oil than fuel thinking of getting shoot of it.
-
After reading about all the problems with this 14 tsi engine I am now thinking of changing it, what do you think. Car Dec 2010 60 plate vrs with 2.5k, oil top up so far 3.5LT,the dealer has asked me to come back when I have done 3k if it has not settled, this is my main worry. Was hoping to keep car for 5 years but with all the reports I keep reading about I am now worried that when the warranty runs out I could be left with a huge bill if this oil problem continues. I am thinking of getting a Mazda MX5 6 speed sport 10 plate 1 owner 881 miles price £14375 should I keep the vrs as I love the car or go for the mazda, and how much is my car now worth. My wife has a fabia sport 2008 12(not tsi) and never put a drop of oil in it between services, had no problems with this car. Thankyou
