  1. Ah, I never measured 0-60 stock but it definitely starts with a 5 at the front based on my JB4 measurements.
  2. Didn't have the Dragy when stock but I had measured with a 10Hz GPS system the stock time a few times, and was around 16.5" - 17" Plenty of the current stage 1 dragy slips though if you look at the first pages! Latest one was a 1/4 mile pass of 12.18" (one page back but also added to the first page for consistency)
  3. That is INSANE, I had no idea it was that bad. I wonder how the sales of >400bhp cars have been affected from that, even if you have a comfortable life and 6 digit year income you just can't accept donating such a chunk of it to the state idiots. Even more because this correlation of private car's kw and environmental impact is completely beyond any scientific study, i wonder if you have a similar tax for say the BTU of the air-conditioners? Has anyone looked into that? Anyway this can go really off-topic so I'll just leave it to that. But i have one question: how can the car be registered with lower bhp even if it's imported, when the manufacturer's data show otherwise? Is there some special exception for american muscle??
  4. Lucky Shy... your neighbors must be two hot girls in their 20s that are extremely social and like to party all the time aren't they? I mean in that case I completely understand all that sympathy, if not it would just not be enough to prevent me from getting my mid-life crisis V8 for sure. I mean sure don't let it idle for 10 minutes, just turn on and drive and it should be fine as long as you don't run some silly exhaust on it. I'm all for good neighbor relations but getting their permission over which car to drive is a bit too much, but then I do have a closed garage so maybe it's easier to speak
  5. Yeah I saw that but apparently according to owners there was no such thing as "optional titanium exhaust" or Akrapovic option, they have mixed up the packages. There was a titanium package which was about different wheels and some other minor mods and then there was the Sports exhaust option (not in titanium though) which is probably what that car has at least. Still, such a sick sound, even more for today's standards and that's due to its engine. You can throw any exhaust you want on a 2.0 TSI and it won't even come close to that sound.
  6. Well you could buy it now to scratch that itch you're having and keep it off the car till you're ready to go stage 2 at a later stage. Or throw it on and drive around with the CEL, i think it can be erased afterwards, it's not as if it would affect performance AFAIK. But in any case the cost of stage 2 map can't be the issue, can it? Get APR's downpipe and the stage 2 remap should be free, at least that's how it was in the past if you have APR Stage 1 like you do, you can thank me later You'd need a 10Hz GPS device like Dragy or P-Gear if you wanted the times to be accurate, phone GPS is not reliable enough.
  7. Would the worse economy and road tax make you go broke though? Also, read a few posts back about living only once, it's all the argument you'd need really. Actually I don't think you have heavy family duties as in children and their endless... stuff? At least you haven't mentioned anything about it so the Superb doesn't really make much sense now that i think about it, you could/should be in an RS5 enjoying life Not sure if the car was stock in that video or it had a res delete (which is a fairly easy job anyway) but the engine noise was unreal, if someone asked me what it is without looking i'd definitely say some sick italian V8, made me go straight to car ads...
  8. Ok just watched it! I think you guys are being more nostalgic of your younger carefree times than objective about the film's actual qualities (has happened to me too with films and music as well) At some points I laughed as it was being completely comical! Also, too much (North) American pride and social mentality in there I did love Duvall's acting though (as always) and that Russ Wheeler's face my god, made you want to throw a punch on his face, great casting! Probably true, but words like these are never good news for one's savings we have to agree on that!
  9. The CEL light depends on the downpipe too according to reports, some trigger it immediately, some others don't. To do it right though you do need a stage 2 remap. There could be a small benefit from just the new hardware but definitely not the full effect as Roscio said. But since it's a 280 where stage 2 maps are available (unlike the 272) and no pesky GPFs to deal with I don't see why you wouldn't do both at the same time? Have you measured any times with your current setup? It'd be a good idea to do also to provide some comparison between current and future mods.
  10. All right all right! You both sound very serious about... I just checked with my... video club and it has it so i'm sorted for tonight
  11. 600bhp or rather the torque that will be making that bhp is too much even for these engines based on the findings so far. 500bhp are fine with the upper ceiling being closer to 550bhp but I generally wouldn't be too cool going much above 520bhp on a stock engine. Also, same limit applies to the DSG. Above 580Nm usually stronger clutches are needed. Well I don't know if it's the car or myself, but someone cries for more from time to time From an economics point of view nothing can come close to a stage 1. The gain/buck ratio is impossible to reach with any other mod/stage after that. So yeah anything after stage 1 is hard to justify in any other way other than "cos I feel like it". The problem is usually it's too late to prevent the addiction. I had to google that movie as I'm a young guy, unlike you old folks I generally enjoy a car movie even an average one as long as it's not about stupid car explosions, do you think I shall schedule it for tonight?
  12. Yeap, that's the guy. However if you read the full article and the subsequent articles, he did not say the Forge is the best performing overall, but rather that the Forge was showing the lowest temp rise at the bench cooling sub-test. He continued by saying it lags the rest of the intercoolers flow-wise. Also, at the time the Forge was tested, he had not tested APR and Mishimoto which were found both to offer even better temp rise. The full assessment: However, the cooling sub-test is only part of the entire testing process and seems to contribute little to the overall performance as all aftermarket IC seem to not be too far between each other. That's why flow differences affects the total performance to a greater extent. The results of the complete testing are laid out on the 2-dimensional chart below: There's at least a good temp rise improvement compared to the stock GTI IC so I agree you shouldn;t worry too much, the better flow capacity is probably only an issue on bigger turbo setups, but it's useful to have that info anyway. So what other mods are you running if you don't mind sharing that?
  13. As I wrote earlier, I'd go with that excuse on an older RWD, manual car with weird power delivery but these cars really, my mother could match my own times in my car with a few basic instructions, they don't require any driver input apart from doing the run in the right conditions. I'll PM you just to try something out though... Lol, it's probably true! The power addiction is one of the dumbest types I have to admit, myself included, it's never enough, just a continuous money pit. Majority of owners I know with BT setups keep them for around 1.5 year more on average and then sell up and look for something else. The more extra bhp you add you are not covering a need any better, just create even worse temptation for more and more... But you see, since 2015 when I came across the first stage 3 setups of the 2.0 TSI and their incredible results for such a mildly tuned 2.0T, I was tempted by the tune-ability of these engines and i was set for getting a car with that engine and taking it to those levels at least once. I realized it didn't make sense on the FWD GTI Clubsport but this car is crying for more...
  14. My personal experiences is with leaking BOV's for a different platform but there's quite some testing (independent) that has been done particularly to the intercoolers for this platform too. To some extent I agree that it's just an IC so you shouldn't worry too much especially if you got it at a bargain price (some of the high-end ones are freakingly expensive for a damn IC) but when you see that they flow the same as a stock GTI cooler you wonder why bother in the first place. I'd also not want to have to touch it again though as you say.
  15. Well for a stage 3 making a 100-200 run it's even less than 10 but I added some pre-launch time for contingency
  16. Probably the only job I don't even consider doing on mine myself after having seen how much of a PITA it is on these cars, I'm gonna take springs and shocks install any day over that. Congrats on the determination and I guess you're going stage 2? If so i'd love to see the exhaust and tuning options you make as it's been unusually quiet on the Stage 2 front for GPF cars for over a year now, especially the international names like APR, REVO and Uni are all stuck at stage 1 it seems, probably cos they still don't offer their own GPF downpipes. PS. Why Forge though?? Their intercooler is the worst flowing of all options out there, lagging even generic eBay ones In fact, most of their products are of average quality/performance at best, they are way too popular for the performance they provide, but they do are cheaper in general.
  17. Yeah because keeping your hands straight on the steering wheel and your right foot down for around 10 seconds is a fine art mastered only through years and years of experience
  18. Yes it's obvious something needs further optimization in your stage 3 map. It's not possible for any stage 1 to be quicker than your stage 3 in the quarter mile! even with a worse 0-100. Also, for its weight and power, the 100-200 time should be at least mid 8's, not 9.26" (correction based on the slope of that run) so yeah, I'd be asking some questions to my tuner. As you say though, I think currently mine is really as good as it can ever be for a stage 1 car, especially low down, the efficiency with which it hooks and accelerates compares to much stronger cars. It's probably 50% the REVO + TVS combo and another 50% the fact that historically, my modded cars were slightly slower than everybody else's with similar mods so maybe the tuning gods pitied me after all these years . To be any faster I would need to start spending BIG compared to what I've done so far and I'm really at a dilemma currently: In reality it's all the "fast" that I can really use (and even that rarely) but I somehow have got used to it and was already having thoughts of jumping to a bigger turbo. A few months back I was certain I would stop at this and maybe get a "dad's" sports coupe that can see 500bhp with just a remap and also start going back to my local track regularly, but it's too early for that car yet in my life for several reasons. Also, the car after the performance and wheel/suspension mods is such a better thing to drive and look at than stock it's almost impossible to fault it and replace it with something else that could offer a similar package and does not cost an extra 20K eur (yes it needs better brakes but I'm on it) so where does that leave me....
  19. The hatch yes has a single muffler with twin exhausts, but I was referring to the Golf R estate which is an identical setup to the Superb with twin mufflers: Only difference between that and the Superb exhaust is the tips at the end. The arb is the same for the Golf R estate and Golf R hatch so it fits the Superb too.
  20. Not really that different. I mean apart from the tail pipes which is a purely cosmetic item, the rest of the system (rear silencers and entire piping) is exactly the same between the Golf and the Superb, hence why the arbs for the Golf fit our cars fine too. No issues with clearances, as I wrote on page 1 it's a PITA but it's do-able with a bit of patience. PS. Talking about the H&R of-course but since that one is also supposed to be a "Golf" compatible item, it should be the same for the rest.
  21. Just get a Dragy Shy! Otherwise it's pointless to try and guess such precise times, you'd be surprised by the amount of variation that can exist between similar cars, even on the same car due to different conditions sometimes. A bit different map, a bit different weight, a bit different DSG shifting and it accumulates. I mean sure there can't/shouldn't be more than, i'd say, 1-2 seconds of difference between any two Stage 1 cars on a 100-200 run but already half a second at 200km/h is around 6 car units difference between them. Besides, I know for a fact you love posting figures (albeit of a different nature) so it's essentially perfect for you!
  22. Haha, got me to it! Clearance issues where exactly do you mean? Talking about the springs or the arb now?
  23. Since we're operating in km/h I'm not familiar with that metric tbh, if you ask me i don't know of any other car's time on 0-100mph run but i guess it should should be a popular reference among UK owners that quickly classifies how fast a car is. For what it's worth, It did it in 9.51"
  24. Found the time to do a "clean" and strong 1/4 mile run on my local drag strip and as i suspected, time dropped a bit further. Pretty mental to think this time is achievable by a Skoda which is not even a full out performance variant, with just a remap and an intake while on fully stock exhaust...
