  1. I have sold plenty of cars to someone that gives me a name and address that i know or suspect is snide.

(But it is someone's address maybe or where the Tin Tents are parked up.)

When i buy i take the sellers picture, the picture of the property and the ID they show me.

(Having been accused of reset in the past from what i believed was a straight vehicle i was buying.)

As to letting a buyer just pay the money and drive away, cancel the Insurance later,

i have in the past received the Speeding Tickets, Parking Tickets and the Penalty from the DVLA for not notifying of change of keeper.

Its up to anyone to do what they feel happy doing,

but advice from Police Officers is as much use as a chocolate fire guard because unless they are the one dealing

with you when you are suspected of having said a car was sold as an excuse for something done using that vehicle you can be well stuffed.

And all tickets for speeding parking etc will still be sent to your address regardless if you cancel your insurance the minute you sell the car or 18 hours later. The V5 is dated and once processed will show you sold the car on and will be reassigned to the new RK. This is just a fact of life that DVLA generally take two weeks to update and reregister vehicles with new keeper details.

  2. From someone I know who recently had exactly this happen to them (as a seller):

    Buyer crashes car.

Police go to MID and get details of whichever company has issued insurance for the car. Note insurance company, not driver, registered keeper or owner.

Claim is put against the insurer, the same as normal. You deal with the insurer, right? You don't talk with the person who hit you.

Insurer has to pay, as that is what their purpose is.

Insurer then contacts the person who took out the insurance.

Finds they are not the current owner.

Seller now gets a tag of cancelled insurance they have to declare forever.

Seller gets into other legal and financial bother.

Fortunately, the person who had crashed it did have their own insurance so the process stopped before they paid out, but they did explain this process.

Police won't go to MID and give out their registered insurance details. Police will demand production of insurance for the driver of the car at the time of the collision.

  3. Be sure you have cancelled your Insurance Policy before allowing them to leave with the vehicle which has now no VED valid on it.

You still can be considered as being the Registered Keeper.

So best be sure the buyer shows you some proof they have Insured & Taxed the car before it leaves your keeping.

It makes no odds to the seller if the buyer chooses to be legal or not. It's their responsibility and all comeback will fall on them re VED and insurance etc. Besides, dvla or the VED database is never that far up to date. It's always a few weeks out.

I'd just take the money, give them the keys and say cheers mate, safe journey home!

  4. If you sold a car on a Sunday where my current insurer closes at 2pm! If i sold a car at 4pm what are you actually meant to do because i wouldn't say i cant sell you it till i cancel my insurance tomorrow for them to then walk away from the deal.

Why does it matter, cancel your insurance on the Monday morning first thing. There's no need to cancel immediately if they are shut, then they're shut. You commit no offences and are liable for no offences once the new owner buys the car. Just date and time the receipt and have them sign it.

  5. Why not take up the challenge?

No challenge involved, I get s free pass as the emergency services train beyond what IAM and ROSPA can due to speeds etc, I just have to pay the fee. But to be honest I can't see the benefit in me being a member, I can understand the benefits in someone being trained and becoming a better driver and would actively encourage anyone to do it.

  6. Sorry OT.

    But maybe google

tayside police crash 172 times in 5 years

(& that was just in police station car parks and compounds.)

So 172 bumps in car parks in 5 years. Not really big news is it? Probably more bumps in one year in your local asda/tesco car park.

  7. Injector seal chenge set should cost about £ 30 for parts plus labour at dealer site £90 per hour. I can't see why it cost £ 700 - 900... Probably they doing more service jobs...

Engine R2 had an issue with a chain but Mazda improved ECU software to read and interprate correctly this parametr...

Most of chains have been changed under warranty...

Yeah that price includes a full service, it also includes other items that are one use is high pressure injector lines that once removed can't be re used. Or do I was told.

True many will have had the chains replaced however since no design changes have taken place, the replacement chains also stretch. Mazda only gave me a 2 year or 36,000 mile warranty on the replacement chain.

  8. Yes, Always check injector seal and all above but these are all about maintenance... Are low cost and preventing job...

The engine R2 has got a timing chain, RF7 has got a timing belt...

Both engine are less effective (mpg) because DPF is cleaning by adding ON into it... not add blue system...

Yeah sorry, I miss typed, all the 2.2 gen 2s had chains, as mine did, however all the chains eventually stretch, some cars are on their third chain. Every service the car has at a Mazda dealer, they use the ecu to read the chain tensioner and once it gets a reading higher than about 10 they advise changing the chain. I'd say it's imperative to get one with full Mazda dealer service history.

Injector seal service @ 75k costs between £700 and £1200 (according to Mazda 6 owners group and depending on where you are) I have no idea where their is such a massive price difference, border cars Mazda dealer, Workington quoted £900, PV Dobson, again Mazda main dealer at Kendal quoted £700, I can't understand why. However a lot of people miss this service out along with the 62.5k gearbox oils service.

  9. Cheers :) i spose ultimately any car can turn out to be a bag o problems, i just dont really feel like investing my hard earned (plus any loan i may need to make up the gap inc interest on said loan) in something which has a legacy of being costly to run or is highly probable to fail on me. I know my current car is far from perfect, but in 4 yrs it has not once left me stranded stuck or massively out of pocket beyond niggles and service costs..

In two years mine cost me £200 for the roof to be resprayed as I didn't check it when I bought it and there were several stone chips with 'spiders legs' of rust forming and then the timing chain. No other issues, it was very quick for being only the 163bph and fairly decent on fuel (43mpg average over 20,000 real world miles mixed) considering the town and twisty roads.

Make sure to give it a good check over you don't want one that's been thrashed within an inch of its life and equally, I wouldn't want one that's just pottered about doing short trips.

I don't think I can realistically say I'd stay clear of them anymore as I had an itch for a Citroen with hydraulic suspension so I've recently bought a 57 plate Citroen C5 estate, I think I'm a glutton for punishment! I've already had to replace the rear calliper, disc and pads and a rear radius bearing. There's several other faults that need sorted but I'm loving tinkering with it at the moment.

  10. Sooo.... mazda 6 lift back diesel is on my shortlist of potential replacements for my car.. hunting a budget puts me at about 2010-2011 at the moment.

i didnt like the gen 2 shape when it was released but it has really grown on me!

Its the engine problems are scaring the crappers out of me... but theres not much else in that age / price bracket im interested in.. mk2 octys are either mega milers and the list of inherent problems or low miles and stupid prices.

Quandry :( have mazda done anythung regardung the engine issues or how does ine soot a ootential bag of spanners???

Issues are still the same. With the gen 2 just make sure the injector seals have been changed at 75k service or make sure they get done at that service. Regular oil changes and decent drives should keep the oil pickup at bay but you could always have the sump taken off and checked every once in a while. And count on a timing belt change, they stretch regardless and don't believe people who say they've changed their design, they haven't! It will cost about £600 or atleast it did me. Mazda will give a good will contribution if it has full Mazda history and under 5 years old. Other than that, it's a decent car to drive, drives better than a Octavia and just as much room. But a octy will probably cost less to own. Swings and roundabouts.

  11. With the 'rolling' mot tests where they appear to be testing several cars at once, it doesn't look like a very through test, probably didn't want to let us see how lapse it was. Also I hated the rubbish should track/effects of the video. I had to skip through it they were so annoying.

  12. Reads like bolox.... If those are the RoE then it's still a hangover from the Jean Charles DeMenezes episode. More likely the police waded in with what they had to hand.

You can't tell if someone's carrying explosives unless they're naked and have recently been sucked off by a sniffer dog. :)

    J.

That's not the RoE. If firearms officers were available ie got there first, he would have faced conventional firearms as well as taser. He would probably still have been tasered due to him not rushing the officers, offenders do not need to have firearms in order to be faced with police firearms.

  13. The question remains, is it better to not use your signal on entry to the roundabout when going straight ahead, or is it better to use an incorrect / misleading signal?

What signal could you use to enter a roundabout when going straight ahead? The hazard lights? You indicate (if needed, ie if there's a car waiting to enter the roundabout at the junction you will be leaving at. Not whether a car is following you or not) when passing the last junction before the junction you are taking.
