  1. Wow. Old thread. That was our 2nd Yeti, which in 2018 went in for a Karoq. Still using Smartlink/AA, now mainly for Waze but increasingly for music streaming. Currently trialling Spotify Premium, Amazon Music HD, and Tidal. Love the offering from the last 2 but TBH my ears and car/home kit likely only justify Spotify's 320/MP3. So after the trial I'll probably stick with that.
  2. Ah, video will do it. Understood. Enjoy the trip 👍
  3. Can't imagine getting anywhere nr 100Gb a month. Even using AA/Waze between here and Como/Milano and back I've only used a few gig. We do mainly play music from the SD card though.
  4. Re cables/adaptors, it's worth a play. I didn't want a cable plugged in vertically. Equally, orientation of USB locators and type of phone socket are variables. My phone uses USB-C do that's one variable removed. Enjoy the car!
  5. Just realised, that's actually the wife's S8. Mine's a Pixel 2XL, quite a big bigger.
  6. Ours is the SE so no real use for Connect. Had to futz around with trying different cables (big phone) but ended up with this. Works for me.
  7. This is why I like Waze, online.
  8. I guess it must be different phones/different practices. When I walk in the house the phone automatically switches from 4G to home wi-fi. Same with John Lewis, M&S wi-fi etc, although we'll be on LNER today and I know I'll have to login even tho I'm a regular user. Just the way a site sets it up I guess. I rarely change any settings. It just does what I want. But I can see the use for mi-fi if the phone allowance is small or the rates higher 👍
  9. On my Pixel phone, Android Auto launches automatically as soon as it's connected to the USB socket. A wireless option is rolling out but I like the charging over the cable. AA gives me GM or Waze nav, calling/msgs options, and a range of audio/music services. I can also use the older Mirrorcast option, which literally mirrors whatever's on the phone screen. I have a 26Gb plan. I've never really seen the point in an additional mi-fi device.
  10. I'm the same. We do stream music via Android Auto but mainly via the SD card. Probably adds little to the sum of human knowledge, but just out of interest I tried a Transcend USB stick with SD/micro SD card slot I'd bought last year for the holiday hire car. Not knowing whether it'd have a card slot, but expecting it'd have USB at least, and wanted to cover all the bases. Took the SD card from the Karoq, and it worked a treat in that car, displaying fine on its screen, No joy with it in the Karoq though. Couldn't even test it. The orientation of the USB tab locator meant the card faced left and fouled the console before the stick went right in. Might be different with other USB card readers.
  11. It's what works for you. Our needs these days, after 2 1.2 DSG Yetis, another DSG 1.0 Karoq is fine. And this is in a hilly area. But our distance touring with cases etc are probably over. Horses for courses.
  12. Can't actually see a "quickest route" setting in Waze but thanks for the tip. Can see "Unpaved roads - Don' t allow" set to on. TBF never had an issue with Waze and it's my preference over Google Maps
  13. Ah, OK, gotcha. Pass. It's stuff like this which just makes me want to rent cars in future.
  14. We've had ours 9 months and after two 1.2 DSG Yetis have no concerns. But there's usually only the two of us and our days of using up capital on cars are gone. I'd rather any issues become someone else's problem.
