Hi there, i just got the car from the shop but it still isnt fixed at all. and has a strong smell of unburnt gas. I got these fault codes from the vag com, i see that it says that it has a problem with the MAF and the TPS, but i'd like that some one help me to understand these faults, and what should be the next course of action to fix them. I had the same problem on mine. ill just make it hole new with aluminum piping.

Well, back from the shop, it appears that is not the coil pack. when they ran VAG COM it didnt show anything. they tried a new coil pack, new cablesspark plug calbes and suddenly things got worse, the car loosed all power, the idle became even more erratic, and a strong smell of sulfur. they tell me that the catalitic is busted. As a plus one of the plastic couplers in the refrigerant system broke, still dont know why they make this things of plastic, is like they want them to brake so we keep buying them.

Panel dead again, now the problem is intermitent, some times the analog gauges work, some times they wont...:confused: any ideas?????

I just took out the battery tray and haven't found the fan control unit. but of course i had to run and close everything twice because of the rain... just when i have time to do this things it rains!!!

What are the diferences on the suspension betwen the 99 octy and the facelifted octy???..

instrument panel working again!!!!!!! YEEEiii.... just resoldered every little part on the electronic board. now the problem is that one of the digital displays is not showing all the info, just have to adjust it again....

is the ignition sending the voltaje to the sparplugs?

Just this morning this happened, the car had problems with cold start, the idle was horrible and i felt the engine moving a lot just like if it had a misfiring cilinder. them when i was driving every time a floored the pedal, the car felt as i had fuel starvation. but if i accelerated more gradually the problem wont appear..... Any ideas? I'll go to my cousins house to get my vag cable and do a diagnostic. but i'd like to have an opinion of you guys, or if someone's had the same problem.

thanks for the prompt answer!!!, i'll into it tomorow morning. what other things should i look up to find the cause of this problem? id like to have many posible causes to look for so if i check one and that's not the one i can continue checking the other right away.

i had a similar problem with my octy, an annoying clicking noise coming from the dash board, under the steering wheel. when i took off all the plastic panels i realized that the origin of the sound was the central lock module. the module itself was not the problem but a dirty contact on the driver door control unit. after cleaning it up the clicking noise disappeared.

Hi there! I'm having the following problem. the main fan stopped working, and the A/C fan keeps coming on and off every 3 seconds. Any guess how to adress this problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi there!, i have another question.... whats the difference betwen the manual gearbox that we can find on the diesel and gasoline octy?? i have a friend that has a 1.6 glxi '99 auto octy and another that has the 1.9 tdi manual octy. the thing is that the one that has the stick gearbox prefers to drive auto and the one that has the auto trans, prefers to drive stick. but they wonder if petrol and gas engines can use the gearboxes of each other without any issue.

yep.... the idea of getting a 4x4 is begining to sound more and more cost effective... jejeje, will start to scrap for octy parts.

I have a question, are there any chassis differences betwen the fwd and the 4x4 versions of a mk1 octy? Would i be able to take the engine/transmision and rear axle from a 4x4 and mount it on a FWD octy without having to modify it?

I have that problem on my rear left door!!!... how can i correct this, they're charging me US$150 to fix it on a local VW shop. i prefered to manually lock the door it's cheaper...

a little question of of the instrument panel topic..... how cani know if the the rear suspension bushings are busted. if've been noticing that the rear of the car gets rather nervous when going throught uneven pavement and it makes a squeaking sound when you push down the back of the car. i.ve installed zenn lowering springs, and 17' wheels. it's been a while since i installed them, but it's lately that i've noticed this.

Yep they have an inmobilizer. i think is the same model sold in europe but really not shure

thanks for the prompt response!... i'll take out the instrument panel as soon as i have time for it. and no here there are not regultaions at all, if your headlights and all other signal lights work you're good to go jejejejeje..... If this helps, the day the problem appeared, the car had some problems to start, at first it started and then the engine stopped, when i turned the ignition again, it appeared completely dead as if there were no battery, then when i turned the key again it started with out the dials.

Ok, i've searched for it, and found that removing the fuse #15, will correct the problem with the analog dials, but, whats the real problem here? will i have to buy a new instrument panel? what can cause this problem? I installed an audio amplifier this weekend, does this in any way can be related to the instrument panel failure? thanks in advance

Hello people, I am having the following problem. All the gauges in the instrument panel stopped working. All the other things appear to work fine, it lights up, the warning lights show up when the ignition is connected. but the revs the speedometer, the fuel and temp gauges wont work. any advice?

I have the same problem!!!, all of the windows have eventually gone down and the dealer charged me for the entire assembly in each one of the cases. right now the Rear/Right window has broke the damn plastic piece!!!! they make this stuff out of butter it seams !!

i just found 1 1.8t 2002 4x4 octy for sale!!, $8000 dlr, the only thing i dont like is the all black interior and the white paint. i'll check it out to see its conditions with my own eyes.
