  1. Hello!, i have the following problem with my car, when starting it on the mornings, the engine doesn't have a stable idle, rather the rpms go down to a crawl making the engine vibrate like hell, then it'll rev up to like 1500 rpms and go down again and at the end the engine will shut down. when i start it up again, the engine works well. I have noticed the following. on cold starts when the engine begins to show the strange behavior, if i slightly accelerate, the rpms go down then slowly up again, and will work fine from that moment on. this only happens on the mornings. I changed the coolant temp sensor since i read somewhere that the one i had (black) was probably faulty and could cause crappy cold starts. I have checked it for DTC's and the only code i see is from an apparently defective o2 sensor. which will be changed soon. any help is appreciated
  2. I just noticed i have the same problem. i saw water dripping from the bottom of the plastic piece that holds the temp sensor just moments after replacing it with the new revision one.
  3. so basically both cars use the same crappy, noisy locks? i read somewhere that they made a change to the mechanism on newer revisions but can't tell if this is true.
  4. jajajaja, well i have to thanks to this forum since all the technical info about what to look for on lock problems was found here.
  5. Hello! its been a while since my last post on this forums. Lots of work, so little time. jejeje, on this weekend i got into fixing my door locks three of them had problems, the drivers side, passenger side and rear left side. When i finally got the drivers side out (after an entire morning looking for the triple square tool) i realize that the problem on this one was not a faulty solder point, nor a faulty microswitch but rather an open line apparently caused by moisture. nevertheless i resoldered all of the solder points and repaired the open line. and everything worked just like the day we bought the car. so there are 2 more doors left to check. one thing i tried to sort out was the dreaded noise this thing make when engaging and disengaging. i drove a friends jetta the other day and the locks were a lot quieter. Why're these things are so loud?
  6. Do you mean a catch can, i´ve been thinkin of making one myself, but first i want to check and see if i need to change anything. i´ve tried to search for the problem but everytime i use the search i get the 404 error . i also be checking for the brake cilinder. I have noticed that the smoke came mostly under hard acceleration and even if i slow down later, itll keep smoking for a while.
  7. Hello, my Car has been smoking for a while, since the shop told me that they have to make mayor repairs to it and itll be costly. yesterday i took out the entire intake and found unusual amounts of oil on it. i took out what seems to be the EGR from the intake and the car stopped smoking. How can i take out the EGR valve to check it or replace it?
  8. thanks for the prompt response. i'll buy a new MAF just need to know if i can adapt one from the 1.8T or 2.0 engines since those for the 1.6 seem to be very rare. My car is a 1.6 N/A no turbo If i had a Lambda sensor problem would it show on the VAG?
  9. hi there, Since the shop took out the cat of my octy, there's been some blue smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Is this normal? or it means that i'll have to throw more money on engine repair. Also they told me i need a new MAF, but i've read that unpluggin it would force the ECU to work on an internal programing, but when i do this the engine starts doing some weird stuff and shotgun like sounds from the intake.:confused::confused:
  10. Hi there, i checked the fan control unit and it seemed ok, no moisture in the plugs. also fixed the main fan, just dissasembled it cleaned everything and it came to life, so no need to buy one for now. but right now both fans switch between on and off erratically and always to full speed. what other things should i check before replacing the FCM. it's very pricey to go buying one to find out the problem wasn't there.
  11. Yeah! i also thought that too!! but thanks anyway. this forum has always been very helpfull
  12. i just receive a call from the shop today and guess what!!!!! they found a faulty ground inside the dashboard that somehow affected the functionality of the ECU. it's very relieving to know that i wont have to pay US$300 to repair it.
  13. Mine is doing something very similar, the shop has tried new coil packs, new spark plugs and cables, new gas pump, new injectors, decated exhaust (it was clogged), new MAF and still does the same thing... i'm waiting for a new ECU to arrive and see if it solves the problem. i'd recommend you to run a diagnostic and see if it gives you a fault in some sensor. So far the search in this forum for this kind of problems mostly points to a faulty MAF, so you could try disconnecting it and see if the fault disappears.
  14. that was the first thing i had to change when i bought my octy, it went out sooner than the first oil change!!!!
  15. Well you where right, it was not the fuel pump.... after replacing coil packs, wire, sparkplugs, injectors, timing belt, fuel pump, fuel filter, decated the exhaust... the engine still has the same crappy idle, and lack of strength. a new ECU will be plugged tomorow....:faint: i'll need to call a voodoo man to perform an exorsism. maybe it'll be cheaper to throw in another engine that'll be a good excuse to get a 1.8T since the 1.6 is so rare here
  16. yeah i thought so too, i'll tell them to try a new TPS. just to see, since one of the Fault codes mentions it
  17. Well the shop replaced the injector and the fault is still there :(.... They'll try with a new gas pump...
  18. I called the shop today and they told me that i had a faulty injector. they're looking for a spare. i have another question regarding the MAF sensor, can i use the one from a 2.0L or a 1.8T? I was looking in ebay for the one that my car uses, but i've only found MAF sensors for 2.0L or 1.8T MK4 jettas
  19. Well i think that posssible, but how can i check that?
  20. mine does that sometimes... maybe when it's on a bad mood.
  21. unfortunately yes, its a simple N/A 1.6
  22. jejeje, ok, well returning to the engine malfunction i noticed just before taking the car to the shop that if i accelerated the engine bursts of air will come out of the intake rare times acompanied by a shoutgun like sound..... that appeared very odd so i told them to check the timing belt or tensioner. but why can this be happening?
  23. err... another thing , the speedo analog is now behaving really strange, with the trans in neutral, if i press the accelerator, it will move just as if it where the RPM and the temp gauge will not reach the half as usual, it stays a bit lower
  24. thanks mate. as soon as the car comes out of the shop i'll plug it. or maybe i'll just tell them to do it.
