  1. My series II Greenline certainly did not use more fuel when coasting. I very often sat and watched the mpg figure ticking up at a fair old lick on some very nice long stretches around here. It was also a tad embarrassing with the low rolling resistance tyres to have to overtake traffic (as the car accelerates) to avoid wasting energy. Leaving it in gear produces engine braking which I didn't find productive and certainly costs more energy than having the engine ticking over.
  2. Any idea which white? I still think Candy White is the best....but keep changing my mind between that and Moon White
  3. Great stuff Phil-E! I think you may have just sold me a DSG (obsessed with mpg ).
  4. Probably a very stupid question...but can you 'coast' with the DSG box?
  5. I've edited my original post to show 'steel' wheel in the body of the message. Are the steel spare wheels for the series III a different size from the series II?
  6. That definitely seems to be the case. This is very interesting, watch the video; http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/66645/winter-tyres-test-reviews-and-prices-for-2014-2015
  7. It'll be a (re) (re) order for me if I go for a Superb. I've been distracted by the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (plug in electric vehicle). I had a test drive in the outgoing model - latest one launching on 1st October but this appears to be a fairly superficial reboot of the older one and I'm kinda going off it. I had had my heart set on the 150ps diesel with AWD but first having discovered this one had an AdBlue tank followed soon after by the whole VAG shenanigans I've done something I wouldn't have thought possible a week or so ago and switched my attentions to petrol (and/or hybrid). Part of me would love to follow the rubber burning set and go for the 280 4x4 but I still cannot resist the lure of economy and that seems to be pointing me towards the 1.4TSI 150ps petrol, unfortunately apparently incapable of driving 4 wheels simultaneously so I'll have to shell out on some winter tyres / and / or wheels. This engine isn't available in the L&K that I was originally going for but that spec included things that I wouldn't otherwise have paid for so looking like the SEL Exec with a few bolt ons. I would have liked the 'Rough Road Pack' (fields with R/C model planes) but that apparently ceases to be available at SE level.
  8. Thanks Gizmo, this is the full kit including jack etc. and tool for getting stones out of horses hooves (might come in handy for removing wheel bolt covers).
  9. Now sold my series II and as buyer offered nothing for any extras I kept the unused full spare wheel (steel) kit (amongst other things). Now considering options but if anyone can advise whether the retained spare will be suitable for use in a series III I would much appreciate that.
  10. You make my point very well Coops Gambling £30,000 on unknowns, ifs, what's and maybe's holds very little appeal to me. Now I only have to consider the unknowns, ifs, what's and maybe's for the one on the drive....and as it only has 12500 miles on the clock maybe I don't need to be in such a hurry. Simples. I certainly feel a lot more relaxed today than I did yesterday morning. The sun has got his hat on.....hip, hip, hip, hooray...
  11. Yes, cancelled (again) today and promised refund of my deposit from NCD who nevertheless expressed much displeasure with my thinking and decision and would still like me to believe that VAGs issues are unique to North America. Now looking at Mitsubishi Overlander PHEV (plug in hybrid) but still the proud and pleased owner of a very fuel efficient and comfortable 2012 Superb Greenline Elegance with a derivative of engine type EA189 which is more than likely going to be the subject of some fannying around by VAG! Gaawd save us from the motor industry while I've still got some time left!!!!
  12. In view of the current furore I have today cancelled my order via NCD - no fault whatsoever of NCD, it's just that after waiting 3 years for the new Superb my faith in the claims of Skoda / VAG have been demolished overnight and I just can't bring myself to buy one of their cars at this time. John at NCD has agreed to refund my deposit although he says that he will take the hit as his is no refundable from the dealer he places the order with. As I'm a natural born cynic I would be surprised if that was the case. He has said that he would prefer that I take any future inquiries of mine elsewhere however so it seems he is not impressed by my decision not to buy from the crooks at VAG. I have had quite a few (frustrating, to me) email exchanges over the last few days beginning with mine informing him over my severe disquiet about the VAG fraud investigations and my conclusion is that I am less than bothered that he would prefer that I would not darken his door again. At the time of typing the refund hasn't appeared in my account but the wheels of the banking industry turn slowly. I'll update tomorrow. I didn't have any problems otherwise with the order but information about build dates and so on was not awfully forthcoming. EDIT 25/09/15 - For the record, John at NCD is a man of his word. I have now received full refund of my deposit.
  13. Maybe the point is that the entire brand is devalued now and it doesn't matter whether VAGs pants are round their ankles (this time) because of diesel or petrol, and who knows what's been going on there (petrol that is). It also doesn't matter who else has been ****ing on their chips as long the aroma of their own urea has not yet been detected.......and in fact might even be ignored. After all one great big sausage on the BBQ might be enough to 'encourages les autres' as maybe the French used to say.
  14. The point is that maybe useage is minimal because the car is programmed to only use it in very few situations, one of which being when it 'senses' that it's being tested. If it is subsequently forced to be used continuously to comply with the regulations that it's software previously allowed it to only selectively acknowledge, maybe you'll need a tanker of it in your drive. Only surmising.l
  15. Well I don't know about anyone else but when I make a decision to buy a £30,000 car, with my own money, that I intend to keep for many years, I've done a lot of research to determine that all of it's attributes meet my requirements. Those attributes include overall performance including fuel economy and the impact that stated emissions are likely to have on ongoing running costs. I am not inclined to accept a car whose attributes have been misrepresented to me (and the rest of the world) on the basis that the liars (if that's what they are proved to be) who made it will 'allow me to pay more excise duty', suffer higher depreciation and likely discrimination from every revenue raising authority in the land. Words cannot begin to describe how angry I am about this - having ordered one with an AdBlue tank on it!!! Will likely cancel before the day is out.
  16. Just company car drivers? Who in their right mind would now continue with an order for anything VAG with an AdBlue tank on board?

  18. From the NCD website; "first registration offer not pre registered, free trailered delivery included"
  19. From the FAQ on NCD website; "Will my new car be supplied by a UK car dealer? Yes, all cars supplied by New-Car-Discount come from franchised UK car dealers."
  20. Not sure who 'they' are but Skoda UK (and many of their dealers) have a fleet division who have differently configured calculators, volumes and expense ratios. Not much different from the many diverse areas of international business. The answer is they can produce numbers which support their business model, whether rollocks or not.
  21. Do you guys actually live in these cars or just use them for transport
  22. Fortunately I'm only about an hour's drive from them so, if necessary, I'm going to go over there and inspect the car then come back and organise the transfer and proceed from there.
