the truth about electric cars
All a load of guff when it is pretended that wood pellets brought supposedly on ship that run on LNG Carriers to the UK to be burned at DRAX is renewables & green energy. Then is receiving Billions of £ in subsidies. So much electricity is produced or can be in Scotland yet not used as the National Grid does not take it or can not take it. The pylons are required & the Sub Stations which are huge, the semiconductors are are required and the offshore substations and generators / converters. Chicken and egg and the chickens are there, the eggs can be there but no transportation to get to the customers who rather buy from abroad for more money because tied into contracts. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-67126815 The inward investments have been there & is there, then the UK government let the offersea owned National Grid do as they like & keep taking profits and not being efficient or giving value to the UK and customers.

the truth about electric cars
Just watched the whole Sky article and the electricity to the UK / ENGLAND from Morocco. & the Pylon Objectors in the UK, that is very much in SCOTLAND and England. Get the pylons up where needed and where they do not want them just disconnect their electricity.

Good if the bodies last and the engines and it is batteries just needing replaced.

the truth about electric cars
@J.R.It is maybe just you are not where they are that you do not see them, they are around lots in Scotland and i doubt many gave been scrapped and lots were produced.

the truth about electric cars
@J.R.Was that a Toyota Prius hybrid? Did exactly what it was required to. Then Vauxhall had the Ampera. A range extender that many owners love, and they are pretty economical. Note her using right hand on centre screen while stationary. This is the issue. Right handed people not good at using touch screens or controls with a left hand while driving. The screen a full stretch to the left, or for those that need te seat back and might have long legs and a normal body but not arms & fingers like a monkey.

MOT Advisory for all 4 tyres
@J.R.we get it, according to you there are not Summer Tyres or Summer Bias tyres, just all year round, all seasons tyres that might be better in warmer / drier conditions ans in some Regions of Europe might be illegal to use in areas where Winter / Snow tyres are required or tyres like All Seasons which have a Summer bias but are 3 peak approved. eg Michelin CrossClimates.

the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher The only reason the Quashqai exists as a Mild Hybrid is so that Nissan have vehicles that because of the WLTP & RDE2 can help them meet UK Average Emissions. That might be low emissions under testing, but if in the real real world they are not just fuel sipping then it is kidology. ? Was it a FWD or AWD version you were driving?

the truth about electric cars
If PHEV guy works for Angus Council or A.N.Other and gets a Car Allowance and handed a CPS card and does not pay for electric then sitting charging while being paid a nice salary is just one of those things. I meet some that get the Fleet Van or Car and the CPS card and charge at the Public Charger and not at the Councils own chargers that the public have no access to Out at the 5 rapids at the Hub next to the A90 and Council headquarters i got well peed off at those that chose to charge there and have lunch in the sun while 200 yards away are the council Fast (slow chargers.)

the truth about electric cars
Sky news running a good story today on the National Grid. How they are having the Gas Fired Power stations generating electricity while it could come from Battery Farms which are sitting redundant and the wind farm turbines are not producing as the electricity not needed for the batteries. National Grid working on it. Just keeping producing the emissions. London needs the new pylons down the length of the UK to feed it,s electricity. Farm land wasted, if no pylons the cost of electricity will rise. Well double the tariffs for London and half them for those with electricity generated within 10 miles of them. @lol-lolMaybe the guy sitting charging was away to tow a trailer or happy to run 30 miles for £6.15 after sitting 30-45 minutes, or just experimenting to see how good the fuel economy is with the battery charged. Next time i see him charging if i do i will ask. Bottom vid. A Skoda Superb iV / PHEV.

the truth about electric cars
What is see for a Land Rover Discovery PHEV with a 15 kWh battery is a WLTP range EV of 37.7 miles / 60 km. If 15kWh usable it is 2.5 miles a kWh. If that is 13 kWh usable then near 2.9 miles a kWh. No idea if they get anything like that. But at 41 pence a kWh to charge £6.15 to maybe get 30 miles. What a pity he never just charged the battery and set off for a 40 mile drive in EV mode and told us how far he got before needing the petrol engine to work. Do a few 0-62 mph,s and maybe take it up to 70 mph with the AC on. On a Public Rapid Charger of 50 kW & able to get 38 kWh then charging full to empty should be less than 40 minutes.

Driving without the engine cover
You get some right nonsense talked. @LuxoviaRSNo idea where you get the idea that 4 cylinder engines and turbo,s are a relative recent phenomeona. ?How old are you, were you born by 1978? My dad had a BMW turbo which was second had before that.

EPC warning light?
? How many miles has the car done? When Fabia Mk2 vRS had issues with the Water Pump / Supercharger Clutch it might show when you really accelerated hard and it might go into limp mode. (Also slight coolant leaks. But a plug on the way out could also have the EPC or Engine Emissions light on or both.) But often for those that not booting their car hard and having it happen it could be when in Cruise Control that the EPC showed as you were going up a hill and the car dropped a gear and then the light came on or it went onto limp mode.) Or it could just be they were running 95 ron and not super unleaded, and that was years before E10. I would try some E5 if you do not already use that.

Air Bag warning light
Could it just be a connector disturbed below a seat? The Fix might cost nothing but the diagnosis might cost you more than 30 minutes plus VAT at a dealership.

EPC warning light?
@DappernutHow many miles has the car done? Was that the Technician that said not possible to be related to using manual shifts? Like maybe getting a misfire! Did they check for any logged fault codes?

Wobbly Ride - 2010 Skoda Yeti 4x4 TDI
@Pete_VRSIf it wobbles at tickover then easy to turn off the engine, get out and grab the roof rails and see if it wobbles because of tired suspension. Or have one do it for you.

MOT Advisory for all 4 tyres
@Smokeyjoe So it involves you buying a set of their tyres, there will not be a credit note for Michelins if you fit will there? Have you yet been to an Authorised Bridgestone Tyre Fitting centre and had the tyres sent off and then confirmed as a manufacturing fault on your under 5 year old tyres? They will be covered by Warranty if they are a Manufacturing fault. As many know they do what is required and are told they are not. Sometimes the likes of Mytyres when you complain just send out a set of tyres from whichever manufacturer after you complain and send pictures and just to save hassle.. Maybe Bridgestone will just take the easy way and make your day. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/480076-tyres-cracking-on-280

the truth about electric cars
On the Land Rover subject, earlier at my local single Rapid DC charger there was a 73 plate Discovery charging so a Plug in Hybrid & on the CCS so i checked the screen & it was @ 19% and getting 20kW. I thought quite impressive. I just checked and it is a 15 kWh battery. & i think they are supposed to be able to charge at 32kW. Good to get DC / CCS charging but at 41 pence a kWh is it worth it. £6.15 to charge the battery. Maybe it is i have not checked out the miles per kWh they get in EV mode or with Battery and engine the MPG. I will later.

Is the car still running 13 year old springs, dampers and other components / bushes?

Dipthane - Snake oil or Good stuff?
I was never good at science but ethanol is alcohol and alcohol is very hygroscopic as it absorbs H20. Is that how the h20 gets burnt then? The winter formulation petrol for the UK contains less ethanol does it not, so why add more with this additive?

Driving without the engine cover
@LuxoviaRSDisplay your Oil Temperature, that will show how hard you are working the engine in whatever ambient temps. That can go high. The coolants job is to have it coming back near the 90*oC or so the coolant always shows. You have more than a radiator, fan, water pump and oil coolers doing rhe job of protecting the engine, turbo, gearbox, there is supposed to be years of trial and error since VW moved from air cooled engines. As in Beetle & Microbus.

the truth about electric cars
Are we learning much more about the truth of electric cars this week, the dangers, risks, negatives or positives and has anyone not getting one been in anyway swayed towards getting one or scared even more from even getting in one to flee from a forest fire or natural disaster. Seemingly the second hand EV market has prices crashing and there is much cheapness about. Seemingly the part of the UK that is England is in a dire state to cope with adverse weather and is just an ickle bit away from Black Outs. Best that the Fracking, Wind Farm and Battery Farm building gets underway and the Small Nuclear Modular plants. Get the Royal Navy ready to cope with securing the seaways and the pipelines and the RAF overflying these as well. Island Nations need to be more self sufficient in energy and resources and the British Isles are not. Well other than they can be with renewables.

Battery (1 year old) keeps going flat
Welcome. Sorry no idea. Maybe tell others what engine your car has. Not that it makes much difference but good to know.

the truth about electric cars
Great ski-ing in Australia. Country perfect for EV,s, power up to the mountains and generate electricity on the way back. ? Any Briskoda members from down under with opinions of the plans this Government or the next have on risking so many lives with electrification or the exportation of so much fossil fuels and minerals around the world to harm others?
