the truth about electric cars
Old biddies get old by living a long time and seeing many winters. Even those that do not check tyre pressures or treads or still drive old cars or newer with narrower tyres and lighter cars seldom seem to have issues in winter. Maybe they just drive as the road condition and under foot suits them or they remember Cross Ply,s and drive to the conditions and Paddy Hopkirk doing Snow Rallies in a Mini. Or them driving whatever in the 50,s and 60,s.

the truth about electric cars
Aberdeen is crazy on an icy day as those in Prestige and performance cars think they can take rat runs and cobbled streets and can not pull away at junctions. As for Glasgow it is BMW,s you see sliding into kerbs or on low loaders.

the truth about electric cars
Driving an EV might be like driving an Auto. But autos are good on snow. Low profile eco bias EV tyres are not. @Crucianwas it the likes of a Zoe or Leaf or bigger ones. Just like Range Rover, Merc AWD,S etc in the North East on the wrong tyres that hold people up. ?

Petrol particle filter
Yet to hear of the cost of replacement GPF,s at Skoda main dealers. Basically because if you ask at a Service Desk the staff might have not a clue what you are talking about. And if they ask people that know they will say don't worry they are for life. True. Life as long as they last untill they might need replaced. Just like DPF,s but cheaper. So how much cheaper,? Silence.

@Routemaster1461 do you want a link to those that had GPF issues, especially during COVID lockdown. Fabia MK3 section high RPM question and in the Octavia MK3 section. 1.0 TSI,s. First ones sold. Do not expect to hear much about issues with cars over 5 years old until they are 5 years old. Or some people will have no issues, or just not notice.

Anybody take up the dealer paint & upholstery protection ?
@Stoker If you want it buy the products which are available at not crazy prices and you apply it. You are as well qualified as the people that will do it for a dealership. With the money saved for your labor and no commission to yourself you can buy something useful.

1.5 tsi throttle lag
The car can say OIl Service Due if the oil was actually not in a good condition and the car on Variable / Flexible service regimes. So when was the Oil & Filter changed last, and was it VW508 00/ 509 00 used, so 0w 20 FS IV ? Has the Air Filter been replaced now?
-
Outside temperature dash display
It reads the ambient temperature. Air temperature at the front of the car / grill height or at wing mirror height car dependent. That is not the Ground / Grass Frost temperature as shown on the weather sometimes with the air temp. That is at ground / surface temp and the Grass Frost temp can be several degrees colder than the air temperature.

the truth about electric cars
Yes the spaces are supposed to be for more than disabled or infirm or wheel chair users. Parents & Guardians taking children in an out cars at chargers. Then you them design disabled charging like in Forfar, dropped kerb, long cables and the surveyor spoke to me when i e-mailed the councilor to tell them they were unusable. Dundee did them right. bottom pictures. This on Forfar has the water gather as not enough drainage and it becomes a sheet of ice. The 2nd picture is NHS and 2 public bays. Forfar.

the truth about electric cars
These charger spaces up and down the country are not all designed and marked to suit disabled drivers and give the space of disabled parking spaces. Some are damn pathetic and mean you can not use them as you can not get in or out the car or plugged in and to the chargers. There is a standard now that is being meet by some installers / local authorities and companies. Some are even listening to not paint the surface or use red pavers that just hold ice and are dangerous. Lidl did red pavers in Scotland at Disabled Parking and people could not use the bays in icy weather. I do ask the Conveners or Councillors or Planners WTF, have you tried using the places you plan and maybe get yourself a wheel chair for site meetings. They use excuses, talk about this and that and i tell them clearing they are a waste of space, and people need more space.

Can i just get winter tyres fitted to my mk3 vrs estates alloys? Rather than also having to buy wheels as well( for only a couple of months)
BMW & Audi Goodyear Eagle F1 in bigger sizes must be very different from the Sh!te that they make with a STAR on for MINI,s. Or wet or cold or snow in the south is very different.

@janneroflHandy if you mentioned how many miles your car has done? Oil needs checked at normal operating temperature, parked on the flat and after a few minutes. Lots of threads on that? If you have Low Oil and a warning shows and there is low oil and you open the bonnet the warning goes out for 100km/ 62 miles. NOT A GOOD THING. ? Were the spark plugs replaced @ 4 years / 40,000 miles, or checked. If checking you would change them since out. PS, The MOT was not checking how the car behaved on the road, It was not road tested. ? Was it in for a service and plugged in and checked for fault codes and road tested?

Service Guide?
The DQ381 7 speed wet clutch DSG service interval as shown by Skoda / VW is @ 80,000 miles and oil change and no filter. If you have a keeper you might want to think on that and if you might have it done sooner and be sure the filter is getting replaced.

JEEP are going Hybrid with the big ones, or REX (Range Extender).

the truth about electric cars
Re the Green MINI. Charger port behind drivers door of a right hand drive car. Usually means reversing near to a charger or getting port near charger. If you do it nose in you block the drivers door or left hand drive the passengers.

the truth about electric cars
I can get flamed for my parking. It was a Hyundai still plugged in and not charging but the plug came out and there were 2 waiting to charge if they came back. The grass is frozen so I put the car behind the charger. Places to go, people to see things to do. I hope the Driver comes back in the next 40 mins though. 3 EV,s been past looking to charge and 1 waiting.

the truth about electric cars
He is with the car filming so not going to stay there Shirly. Unlike the Hyundai blocking the one charger at Turnberry & the Kia that has been charging 90 minutes at Girvan and is full and still locked in or the Merc getting 11 kw on the AC and has been a few hours. Funnily an Open Reach EV driver was needing a charge as he has 20 miles range and 16 miles to home where there is 1 public charger. He said report the ar53 in Forfar with the Open Reach Van. I charged in Stirling on a rapid that was dead slow and i got 18 kW in the 40 minutes. then had to go on the AC to get to 98%, (Did 90 miles and still had 16 miles left and that was in very cold weather and not going slow.) The other 3 chargers occupied. 2 had arrived just before me. I was still there when a guy came back that had been on 1 hour 40 minutes in an Audi. He was not bothered it was a £1 a minute over 40 minutes as a works car. He said never again taking it to go south it was hell.

My 2023 MINI Cooper S Level 3 Electric leased from Motability which will be with me for 3 years & now a 2021 MG5 as a dog wagon.
I have a good few miles to do in the next few days and using the MINI just because of the All Season tyres on it and comfort and i think i am OK for the chargers i will be using. Leaving with 100 % charge and temp at -5*oC and car pre conditioned. Today just me and dog. Plan is charging at 75-80 mile each time other than a 90 mile between charges, maybe some driving on white stuff so i will see as i have alternative chargers but they are just not Free or cheap. I reckon on maybe 5 charging seasons at most on 50 kW chargers, but i will see. The MINI actually seams to be pretty good in the cold as long as the heater is at 18*oC and AC just on occasionally if needed if any steaming up. That is the beauty of a small interior and the heated seat only needs on for a few minutes occasionally when getting in to cold leather or before getting in.

England EV Charging points, a proposal. & location & news on new charging hubs in England & Wales.
TESLA can charge 'Non Busy' lower tariffs which is sensible, and there are Councils in Scotland with 'Off Peak' tariffs, which is as it should be as supposedly using the electricity not in demand but available helps 'Balance the National Grid'. There appears to be profiteering. Yes chargers and infrastructure is expensive. But then surely you want them used as much as possible. Like Hotel rooms. Occupation even at a cheaper rate is bringing in money while unoccupied might require less staff / cleaning but you are not earning anything.

Long Life oil question? 2014 Octavia vRS petrol

Fabia Wheel Bolts
Welcome. @Carlstonmight be along and help with his knowledge. When you remove an alloy wheel on a Fabia and other vehicles the Spare wheel fits with the wheel bolts that were used on the alloys.

Galvanised body.
Welcome. Yes. Not enough to stop corrosion though. As with most VW Group vehicles. Give it a search maybe / Google.

England EV Charging points, a proposal. & location & news on new charging hubs in England & Wales.
I expect eventually some investigation into the Pricing of EV charging & if any are operating some sort on cartel on the pricing. The Electricity per kWh for those using AC being so much cheaper than DC can not just be because of the expense of DC chargers and installation and maintenance. Those AC chargers are putting out less electricity or being used longer maybe and rapids getting more sold and serving more customers might just be more profitable, but the Premium charged is a p1ss take really. Then some 'Schemes', Subscription, Loyalty, is not that different from the Supermarket Loyalty Cards that are getting looked at because of some getting a bargain or at the actual value while others are being ripped off / over charged.
