The EOS 500D is a cracking camera. The lenses that come with that kit are OK. The Canon 75-300mm that comes with it isnt considered a great lens but to get you back into things it will be fine and lets face it you can always sell it on and upgrade at a later date. I would however ask yourself what you are wanting to do with the camera. If you are intending to take full advantage of the video feature that the EOS cameras offer then I would seriously consider looking for the EOS 550D instead as the video features on that are far superior. Also the low light performance of the 550D it better than the 500D. At the end of the day though if you are just looking for something to use as a general everyday camera for holiday snaps, days out etc then its a cracking deal and you cant go wrong. Looks like a cracking lens. Nice and sharp with lovely colour rendition. As has been said small marks on the lens rarely transfer to the image so should be nothing to worry about, and especially at that price. Some lovelt shots of Matlock there by the looks of it.

Just thought i'd pop in and say hi. Im due to pick up my new purchase i a couple of weeks (a 51 plate Octavia vRS). Its my 1st Skoda (if you dont count my first car from yester year- an old rear engined model) and im keen to learn the ins an outs. Im buying it off a friend of mine and its had a few simple things done like remap, cold air induction kit located behind the front bumper, 4bar fpr and replacemen maf. Not sure if I will leave it at that or do a few other mods like suspension etc but really hoping it will servre me well as reliability is a key factor for me. Anyway enough waffling, hope to be posting a bit more as I get settled in. Cheers Dazz
