  1. Free CP still exist ? I thought all that was gone. I aim to do most charging at home overnight, but on the odd occasion I want a boost etc while out, or shopping, would it pay to sub to a service, and if so which one ? I initially assumed all chargers accept bank cards, but it appears not ? Presumably, I also have to provide the CCS to CCS lead for rapid charging, as they are not tethered to the CP stations ?
  2. No bait, just unsure of how it works ! I assumed 50kwh charger delivers 50kwh, so though it might be an hour of 50p x 50kw = £25, therefore 35 mins = £25 divided by 60mins x 35 = £14.58 But it looks like thats not correct ? Also no idea of how long it would take a 58 (62) KW battery charge at that rate, just new to this and learning
  3. Rather than start a new thread, this seems a reasonably logical thread to ask: If a car can charge 5-80% in 35 mins on 120kw charger, but only 50kw charger is available : A: in the same time what would the 50KW charger take it to from, say 20% ? B: If the price is 50p kwh, how much would the 35 minutes cost ?
  4. It would appear, having just looked at the OBD11 app, that I can choose to have it start on at Ignition, off at ignition, or remember last setting at ignition. So that's pleased me
  5. Thank you, the car will be a Cupra Born, I have no idea what 12v battery it has. My car will often sit for a week without being used, so a 12v booster may be a wise investment ? Would it also be wise to do a low rate charge (10a or 16a instead of 32a) on the main battery every few days when not being used ? Presumably 7 hours of 16a would use half the electricity of 7 hours of 32a ? TBH found it odd when I heard EV have a 12v battery, I expected they would have a converter to run the standard electrics from the main one, maybe its more efficient to have a 12v battery being charged.
  6. Lol ... she can stay in lane, Its more about having an "assist" that is not desired !
  7. As I soon to be EV owner, maybe I should look to get one of the power pack things just in case, is 1200A peak 18000 mAh enough ? Also can the 12v battery be left on a standard car trickle charger without issue ?
  8. I think its a Tarraco probably around a 19 plate. Yes I know if you indicate it wont interfere, but my car I can just turn it off and it stays off, her apparently does not,. Talking to the dealer when looking at a new car, all newer cars will default to on. Its just an assist that is not necessary IMO, if you cant stay in your own lane, you shouldn't be driving, if you are feeling tired you should stop somewhere safe and rest/grab a coffee/get some fresh air. I don't know what adjustability it has, I borrowed her car and as I was not expecting it the first time I went to change lanes on the DC and had a surprise ! I asked why she hadn't turned it off, and she explained that it resets every time and bugged her, as it would me a bit. Sure, you can soon get used to using indicators when you don't need to, but I do hate it when assists are forced on you. You should always have the option to disable them full time in the cars menu if that's your preference.
  9. Ok So I know the target car isn't Skoda, but it is VAG or whatever the term is now 😋 Basically, on my sister's Seat and on my probable next car, the lane assist has to be deactivated every time the ignition is turned on, it will not remember the setting. Can this be coded to remember last setting, or if not, disabled somehow, as I (and She) do not like it ? I don't have vcds, but if it can be done then likely OBD11 which I do have would have it.
  10. I had been looking for a charger I can specify to start/stop in my energy suppliers low rate times, and someone mentioned that this can be done in the cars system, is that right ?
  11. Well first estimate in, at nearly 2k I think I will keep shopping !
  12. Presumably, these also comes with the same risks ? GEN-2 - EV Charging Cable | Type 2 to 32A Commando | 7.2 kW | 5 Metre - EV OneStop Ohme Go - Commando to Type 2 (UK) | Ohme (odoo.com)
  13. Hold on, sorry I just reread this. So I can buy an official Tesla adaptor cable and portable charger, for £220 and it will give me 7kw charging ... at the risk of electrocution ... hmm Being an American firm I am suprised they sell that at the risk of being sued 😁 But how is it different to using a UK 3 pin plug charger in terms of safety, surely thats the same risk ?
  14. Just awaiting a quote from an independant, they were recommending/pushing a Zappi, any thoughts on those ? He was on about armoured cable, but as its in a dry garage is that really needed ?
  15. Yes my provider doesn't have ev tarrifs but I can move to an offpeak low rate that is 23 .5 p for 7 hours at the expense of a daytime rate that is 3p more than current one rate. Working my usage, my day use would cost me £11 per month more, but save me £5 per full charge at night.
  16. Oops yes, other one was: Wallbox Pulsar Plus EV charging solution up to 7.4 kW, Type 2 plug. Earthing Protection, Bluetooth & Wi-Fi connectivity. Color: Black : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive And there is this one: Sevadis MaxiCharger 7.4kW Electric Vehicle Charger | Wall Mounted Type 2 Socket Charger for Electric Cars | EV Charging Point with WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet and PME Fault Detection | UK OZEV Approval: Amazon.co.uk: Automotive
  17. Was it solely the public charge points cost/availability that turned you off ? Looking at getting into an EV myself, currently having from a nice (but relatively thirsty) ice. My journeys would 99% be a case of drive out and back well within the range and charge car at home all the time. Any longer journeys could be completed in the wifes fossil fueled jalopy 😄 At current fuel and leccy costs, this will be half my petrol costs. Also no VED for 2 years mot for that period plus and a car under warranty should anything go wrong. Granted the outlay negates all of that, but its more a case of the monthly bills would be much more appealing, after all there is no logical or financial justification for ever buying a new car
  18. Hi the two I looked at were: VORSPRUNG® EV Charger charging wall box unit type 2 t2 - rapid EV wallbox 32 amp/7.4kw ip65 rated electric car station plus 5m cable, home car charging point vehicles, indoor/outdoor -UK Design: Amazon.co.uk: Automotive and: VORSPRUNG® EV Charger charging wall box unit type 2 t2 - rapid EV wallbox 32 amp/7.4kw ip65 rated electric car station plus 5m cable, home car charging point vehicles, indoor/outdoor -UK Design: Amazon.co.uk: Automotive Tax ? I thought the VED would just go to standard rate (£165 atm) in 2025, for anything registered between 2017 and 2025. Does anyone know of the time from ordering to fitting for any of the major EV charger providers like podpoint, and have any recommendations?
  19. No idea what comes with TBH, I am just starting out on the research phase of how viable is an EV for me at the minute. Or if it does come with cable, what will the other end fit ? Was looking at possibly a Cupra Born, but like I say early on in the viability stage ATM.
  20. There are a couple of chargers I can find for just under £500, so was thinking if the wiring was straight forward another £150 would sort out the Sparky ? (no idea on rates, just a guess). Podpoint tethered charger comes in at £999. The untethered is £949, but presumably I would then need a cable at £179 ? I presume by commando socket , you are refering to the existing 3 pin box on the wall, no idea of tax reasons as I am not self employed. 🙂
  21. The intent wasn't to take power from the socket, more to see if the wiring to the socket could be used (remove socket and put charger there) or if It would need to be fully re- wired. Either way it should be fairly straightforward for Mr. Sparky as the mains fusebox is in the garage
  22. Thanks guys, if Mr Sparky only needs to disconnect that and move the wire to an EV charger mounted on the wall near it, it should be a straightforward and therefore low cost option
  23. My garage currently has what I think could be an old EV charger in it ? pics attatched. My question is: Could a Sparky take power for an 7kw EV charger from the current wiring to it ?
  24. Its relatively easy, put on and buff off one panel a time (or 1/4 on the roof/bonnet). I actually got distracted talking to the neighbour so I didn't buff one panel off straight away, and it wasn't an issue. TBH the glass cleaner took more elbow grease to buff off ☺️
  25. No pics, sorry ! Found my car does fit in the garage 😄😁😎 As I had some as some light swirls in some areas (not by me I add). *Note to self be very specific when car goes in for work in future ! So todays brief: Jet washed, Snow foam and TFR mix left to disappear then snow foamed again, left to dwell and rinsed. 2BM wash, Jet washed and MF towel dried. Clay mitt+ detailer lube used on panels I planned to DA polish. Nervously machine polished the panels that the swirls were noticeable in the sun. Swirls were light so I thought start soft, (new to a DA and machine polishing) so used a finishing compound and a soft pad (Merzena 3500 pad/polish). Then cleaned off remainder of polish with MF, followed by a wipe down with a mix of isopropyl and de-ionized water. Inspected using the Auto finesse Swirl Correction Light (and the 6500k LED's installed in place of the old Fluro tubes in the garage). Appears my mission was successful 😁 Then put a coat of Bilt Hamber Double speed wax on the entire car, Auto Finesse Revive on the plastic/rubber parts, Sonax BSD on the wheels, and Auto Glym Glass Polish on the glass. Dressed the tyres with Finishkare Top Coat. 7 hours later sit down with a glass of Cider, for half an hour then start preparing tea 😌 Still to do: clean out the window seals, and do the interior. Purchased some more Gyeon Q2M Wetcoat for the next interim clean, I love that stuff 😁 (TBH I usually do a full wax around once a year, the rest are interims ☺️). Edit: Snapped some pics this moring, bit of dust settled but hey 😜
