  1. If you apply the handbrake, select 1st gear, and slowly release the clutch, will the engine rev up or cut out?
  2. Have you had the OBD scanned to see if its showing any fault codes???
  3. Yes, 500KG or thereabouts would be my normal towing...a Honda 2417 ride on Mower, rarely anything heavier, but its essential that I be able to move it around. Thanks and Best Regards, Jim
  4. Finally, I found the VIN/ Weights plate and yes, it was on the bottom of the "B" pillar, low down, and on an inward curve to the rocker / sill panel, difficult to see at nigh time, and even in good daylight also because half of it is in the shadow of the rear door. Anyway, here it is, and apologies for the delay. Thanks for all your help and Best Regards, Jim. Kodiak Piller Plate Weight 20260621_151145.heic
  5. Hi again Evolution, sorry for the delay in replying to you, but finally got the Kodiaq back from my daughter this afternoon ( if you have daughters yourself, and they borrow something just for a day or two, you will understand) Anyway, there's no such towing weight's limit plate anywhere on the car that I can see! And another member is saying the same thing. What I have discovered is : 2'000 Kg Braked Towing 2.0 tdi 4X4, 2'200 Kg Braked Towing 750 Kg unbraked towing. But I'm not finished looking yet. And as soon as I have more info, I'll get back to you. Best Regards, Jim.
  6. This is my first Skoda Kodiaq, and despite many years of driving all manner of Skoda's and while I can fit towbars no problem, I have no experience in fitting them to the Kodiaq 4x4's. I suggest you contact your nearest Skoda dealership for definite info on the subject. Personally, I cannot see why not....but with modern vehicles, you cannot tell!!! Best Regards, and let us know how you get on, OK? Thanks Best Regards, Jim
  7. While not 100% sure, I think that in the 7 seat Kodiaqs, the towbar is standard,,,when not in use, its out of sight, tucked up behind the rear bumper. A simple way to check is to lift up the tailgate, and on the drivers side rear panel, there's a small pull catch, with a hook emblem on it, and this is the release for lowering the towbar. No pull catch, no towbar. Best Regards,Jim.
  8. Yes, that I will do for sure!! I've enough experience dealing with insurance assessors in the past to know that they will not leave any stone upturned in their efforts to reduce or better still, deny a claim!! Best Regards, Jim
  9. Update on my Kodiaq listed as a 4x4, but in reality is only a FWD... So finally I got the Registration Document ( V 5 in the UK? ) and its listed as a JEEP/ESTATE.. no mention of 4x4 anywhere, and true 1x0. So in due course, I contacted the insurance, and informed them that the car was not an 4x4, but they insisted that when they inputted the reg nr. that what came up was it was a 4x4, and it was on that basis that they were insuring it on. So I said OK, fine by me, as long as if I ever have a claim, you wont try to wriggle out of it based on your assessment of it being wrong. So here we are....Car is a delight to drive, handles very well on the road, plenty of power (for my needs at any rate) Even the 6/7 th. seat's are very comfortable, surprisingly so. They are not something that I would pick by choice, but in the Kodiaq, they work. Thanks again for the help, Regards, Jim.
  10. Judging by the pic, that will need repairing by someone with experience..the sill panel is actually split away from the floor pan.,,so a lift, and a MIG welder will be needed. But at least you have caught it in time.....and while its on the lift, give it a thorough inspection for any other lurking rust problems. Good Luck, and Best Regards, Jim.
  11. What does this update file do? Thanks, Jim,
  12. Yes Bap, I contacted the dealer today about the registration docs, only to be told that the they had yet to receive the docs themselves from the previous owner! But they assure me that I will have the registration doc by next wednesday..... In any case, a very helpful Briskoda member named Pete, deciphered the VIN, and now I have proof that my Kodiak is indeed a front wheel drive, code 1XO. Next stop, contact the insurance again, and persuade them that the car is a FWD instead of their listed AWD. Fun times ahead!! Thanks and Best Regards, Jim
  13. Thats the plan Warrior,,,I have until 27 June to re-insure, and for now I wait for the return of the Veh Registration doc, and see what designation that gives my FWD Kodiak. Thanks for replying, Best Regards, Jim.
  14. Skomaz, I've already tried several insurers, but some are the same as the present insurer, at €800, some even higher. Seems that they are all using the same specs....as standard.
  15. I've entered the VIN code into several so called Free Vin Decoder's, but all reduce the free part to paid subscription averaging £30. Now when the tax office return the vehicle registration docs, I'll check the info on them, and if that fails, I'll go for the paid subscription one. Any recommendations on good decoders? Thanks and Best Regards, Jim
  16. Well, until I receive the Registration docs back from the tax office, I wont be able to confirm the specs. But slowly, I'm gathering information..it seems that the AWD 4x4 Kodiaks, have the 8 speed gearbox, while the 7 seater, front wheel drive, use the the 7 speed gearbox... We will see, Thanks for your help, its appreciated! Best Regards, Jim.
  17. At the end of the day, everything boils down to the individual that you are dealing with,,and unfortunately in too many instances, you will unfortunately, meet the one who is completely unsuited for such front of house position. And from previous experience with the local dealership, the help I got was grudgingly given, because I didn't buy the car from them. I'm not to eager to repeat the experience. But I do get your point, and thanks for your help, Best Regards, Jim.
  18. Bap33, I bought the car from an independent dealer, and I've told him about the problem, and he's promised to look into it, and see what he can do. I'm not sure how the local Skoda dealership would react, as I didn't buy the car from them...With a previous vehicle, an Mercedes Benz, E class, the local main dealer downloaded all the data I needed from the keys. Does Skoda use the keys also to store information?
  19. Thank you so much Bap33, that should solve the problem, but now I have to wait for the registration docs to be returned, and I will see what they say in relation to the specs, to use as proof. Again, Thank you & Best Regards, Jim.
  20. Hi, the year is 2020, engine 2.0 Ltr Diesel. 150 BHP, Automatic, 7 speed ( I think) 7 seater. Ambition class. ...I'm still trying to figure out what is what, and how it works.. no AWD or 4x4 badges on the tailgate.....and definitely no rear drive axel , just the two rear wheels hanging on their independent suspension's. Thanks for your help !! Jim
  21. I'm in Ireland, and the equivalent document we have here to the V5 used in the UK is the Vehicle Registration doc, and that's currently with the Irish transport department to get the vehicle registered in my name. I should have it back by the end of the week, but just now, I'm dealing with the Insurance company..and according to their classification, my Kodiak is 7 seat, 4x4 AWD. But I'm reasonably sure that each type of vehicle has its own specification Nr? Thanks for your help, Jim
  22. Hi all, Skoda Kodiak 4x4 AWD, and Skoda Kodiak front wheel drive....what codes or description spec's etc. differentiate between them ? My problem is that while my newest purchase of a 2020 Skoda Kodiak , 150 HP and Front wheel drive, is a delight in every way, my car insurance has gone through the roof, and when I queried it, I was informed that one of then reasons for the increase (more than.€200) is that its a 4x4 AWD. The problem is, there is only front wheel drive, and the rear wheels are free independent suspension, without any drive shafts at all. There must be a way to convince the insurers that the car is in actual fact just a Front Wheel drive car.. So my question is, what Nrs or codes are specific to the front wheel drive vehs? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give, Regards, Jim.
  23. Regarding Tyre Pressure Sensors, it should be known that these sensors are battery powered, and eventually, these batteries are kaput. To replace 2 in my last car, an E class MB, cost €180 for 2 sensors....therewas the usual yellow warning icon on the dash, but when examined by the tyre fitter, a 2nd sensor ready faulty also...
  24. Just bought my first Skoda Kodiak this week, and trying to find my way around....having the VIN decoded would be a big help if anyone can help ? So far no luck trying to get it decoded on the net. The VIN is:- Thanks in advance for your assistance!! Removed Please use do not post your VIN or reg number on the public forums, as data scraping may use this information for vehicle cloning or other activities. Only send this information via the PM (Private Messaging) function to trusted members. If the PM function is not yet available to you, tagging the member and asking them to start a conversation will work. Thanks, Briskoda admin.
  25. The really true and reliable indicator of oil leaks is how much topping up does it need between changes....no topping up? no oil is leaking, the liquid seen in the pics are from something else.
