  1. My mate the VW mechanic, £200 all in for cambelt, pulley/tensioner and waterpump (plastic impellor) for the 1.8T AUQ vRS
  2. Mine came on yesterday - looks like my lambda sensor is away (from VAG Com) - will find out on Sat for sure.
  3. you can buy the clips from yer local neighbourhood skoda rip off merchant - or try a scrappies!
  4. Could either be there Johnny, or behind the tailgate plastic trim as the pipe to the motor popped off on mine before.
  5. well I reached down behind the trim to remove the 2 bumper bolts holding the big bracket onto the side of the car...there is also another plastic bolt holding the bottom of it down - not easy to get to them. Once I had done all this, I realised the CD changer (and carpeted surround) is held together by 4 torx screws (either size 20 or 25 methinx). You only have to loosen these off and the whole changer/surround bit will lift off the big bracket, then just pull the cable thru a wee bit to unclip the connector and there you have it. Obviously refitting is reversal of removal. So - the 45 mins to 1 hour I spent removing the big bracket was not required. I did search on here for a guide but couldn't find one.
  6. Not just outside last night, but the inside of my rear windaes last night too! I had no end of problems last year with the car misting up, so much so that I had ice on the insides of the front and rear screens! Turned out to be water ingress from 3 places - rear light cluster, rear wiper washer perished and a missing rubber washer from a bumper fitting bolt. After getting them sorted the misting was vastly improved - still occurred a bit but this seems to be an Octy (and Favia, maybe even VAG in general) issue - certainly seen a V6 Golf sitting outside the work one day exhibiting the problems. Anyhoo all was well until last night when Penicuik went arctic again - noticed around 4pm the rear screen had iced up inside - took the car for a spin to clear it all, took a wee while and when I got home, 30 mins later it had started again!! All became clearer on the way home tonight - went to wash my rear window with the scoosher and nothing came out!! As we know, Octys have a common problem of popping the connections off the wee pipes - either below the wiper motor, or behind the CD changer - first place was dry, checked last year's places and they were dry which left...behind the CD changer a frickin puddle of screenwash. Took me ages to remove the CD changer, now I know the easy way to remove it, it won't take nearly as long next time so currently letting the carpet dry out before refitting everything. Pipe connection now cable tied and taped up. Not the night I had planned but one more wee niggly problem fixed.
  7. One of the guys in ScottishVAG has a black Golf V6 4-Motion with Nuvolaris and it looks very nice indeed!
  8. I have done it twice. The second time was much easier as a)I had done it before and b)the groom had done much more daft stuff to regale folk with. I snuck into his house a few weeks before when he was out and raided his childhood photos to make up a wee book I put on all the tables. Depending on the time of the speeches, find out the football scores and announce them - always good to get a few of the audience involved. I started with the old line "being a best man is like making love to the Queen Mother...everyone agrees it is a great honour, but noone really wants to do it" - saucy enough without upsetting the olds. When reading the cards/messages out I snuck a couple of surprise ones in - to the bride - so sorry you are now taken, I missed my chance from George Clooney, then repeat the same for the groom a little later but this time it's from George Michael Basically try and relax, enjoy it as much as you can and remember - folk will want you to succeed and will generally cut you a lot of slack.
  9. Recently I have noticed an audible droning coming from the front of the car. It is much worse when on new tarmac. I am unsure whether it could be a wheel bearing or the Eagle F1s I had fitted roughly 1.5k ago. Are the F1s particularly bad for road noise? I haven't had time to either swap the wheels around or even jack it up and wiggle the wheel so I thought i'd ask you good people if you have had any similar experiences. Cheers, Steven
  10. Welcome mate. I've had a couple of MG BGTs in my time - love them! Good luck with the Skoda
  11. I have contemplated dark grey ones, offset to the passenger side for a while now.... but now i'm thinking black roof instead... decisions decisions
  12. wheels out of balance warped discs damaged shoes/pads due to sticking/sudden unsticking sticking calliper piston(s) rust on disc(s) could be numerous things mate
  13. Do not use LCI Autobody or Altered Image. Seafield Coachworks are good, but you will pay for the privelege. Not sure of any others.
  14. OO rocks! I am trying to keep away from Microsoft for everything nowadays - Firefox, Thunderbird, VLC media player, etc. I am however still running on windaes as it is a legal copy which is unusual in this day and age
  15. Mine arrived couple of days ago - thanks MAS!
  16. Was thinking on my way to work this morning (dangerous i know!)... if a Boxster is a poor man's 911, what is a Cayman?
  17. crikey - the Fifers are taking over the place Welcome fae Penicuik.
  18. I was on a course last year in Dundee. I took the opportunity to go back to the Halls Of residence I stayed in back in 1988/89 whilst up at uni. They have been knocked down! and replaced with fancy new flats. I spent 1/2 hour walking round the old haunts, many now unrecognisable with tears in my eyes that all my memories were just that...feeling old and melancholy  I think it's perfectly natural and part of getting older.
  19. I would love a matt black car... if I ever source a wee Knockhill track project it'll be matt black.
  20. I have fitted that switch numerous times on my Octy. First time, I took it apart and tried the repair - lasted for around 6 months. When it went the first time I got no brake lights and no cruise control. Second time it went...I got brake lights permanently on! I had to remove the fuse until I got a new switch. They have redesigned it nowadays, the newer ones are green and do not have the ratchet setup that the old ones did (which is the part that can break IIRC if you fit it incorrectly). As mentioned previously, only around £6 and cheaper from Skoda than VW (even tho it is a stamped VW part )
  21. I can't believe noone has picked up on this before... What was she doing away from the kitchen sink in the first place? I'm colourblind as well.
  22. Andy - where did you find those? I would love a hi-res version of number 1 for a PC wallpaper!
