Depending on the circumstances when the chain or belt let go, you most likely will get away with a top end rebuild provided the piston tops have not been too badly damaged.

If there are any marks on the piston(s), there could be hotspots which may cause piston failure.

A case of you pays your money and takes yer chances.

  2. I had something similar, purchased a quality cable and a short time later same thing again.

By accident I noticed that the issue was the connection in the phone getting a bit worn because of the frequent plugging in and out.

The solution for me was to buy an AAWireless adapter. Now when I get in the car my phone connects and never drops out.

Good to know, I'd be amazed if anyone ever needed to regen one of those, as generally they're done passively. I tend to let the momentum of my transmission slow down my car where possible, presumably when the GPF would then be cleaned.

I'm very pleased I don't own a dpf now though, that's a different ball game. Not that I ever had an issue with a dpf equipped car, owned 4. Just need to drive them correctly.

I had a GPF regen happen after several days of house hunting where the car was driven quite slowly for long periods. I didn't realise what was happening when I noticed a petrol smell inside the car and the fuel gauge was dropping quite quickly. After calling out the RAC he could find no leak and then asked if I  had a GPF?  - problem solved, doing a regen.

  4. Hi Guys,

The attached photo shows the edges of the heated windscreen not heating up. It started with just the left hand edge and the right hand side failed not long after.

The car is booked into my local dealer later this month and hopefully the screen will be replaced under warranty.

Anybody else seen a similar issue?

    TIA

incidentally 1 or 2 reviews on Amazon (where not in stock at present) suggest it needs to be unplugged to stop battery wear.

Does that mean the USB AA slot is permanently live?

Mine is left in all the time without any problems. The battery does get used with the only sign that it takes longer until the stop-start kicks in.

However, when on holiday I disconnect from the USB socket.

I doubt changing the wheels within the specification of the Model would negate the insurance.

But the insurance would only cover up to the value of the wheels expected to be fitted, unless they were aware of what you fitted.

I.e if you changed steel to alloy or alloy to expensive aftermarket alloy without notification you couldn't claim the extra if the car was a total loss.

It is my understanding that only mods that make the car illegal on the road that would invalidate insurance.

(Modifications not declared would not be covered for replacement if stolen)

    Wrong.

ANY modifications to the manufactured specification should be declared.

I had a similar discussion with my insurance company, over 20 years ago, when I wanted to upgrade my wheels to the wheels that were an option at the order point. It was considered a modification as the car would not be "As built"

It's up to you to take the chance.

As for the alarm question, I asked in case anyone has experienced of this happening as I don't want to disturb my neighbours.

"Open a window. Lock the car enabling the alarm,  reach your arm in the window and wave it about."

Well, the online owners manual states:

The alarm system will only operate correctly when all the windows are closed.

The alarm has a movement sensor inside the car, so with the windows shut it will not sound. By opening the windows and waving your arm, it will sense the movement and trigger the alarm.

As for disturbing your neighbours, if you trigger the alarm during the day and silence the alarm quickly, your neighbours should not be disturbed.

Thanks for that, I'll try putting my ripped CDs into album folders, that should reduce the individual number a bit.

@JD52does shuffle still work? Eg, will it play a track from album A then one from album X or does it randomly play all of album A first?

Good question, I've not tried shuffle until now.

Just braved the rain and tried shuffle. It seems to shuffle within the folder you select. If you select a single CD, it will shuffle within that. If you go all the way to the top menu, it will shuffle within the subfolder you select, albums, artists etc.

    good luck.
