  1. Anybody tried putting 98 octane in their tank?

It may be more expensive, but the MPG seems to drop - a better bang for your buck.

Also, be careful trying to use coasting to stretch yer miles per gallon - I believe it's illegal as you are required by law to be in control of the vehicle at all times. "Coasting" means that the engine is disengaged from the road wheels and the car will become unwieldy and difficult to nigh on impossible to keep under control at speed.

  2. I noticed a similar issue when putting ripping a musical show cd to my sd card. The only thing I could do was to rip each CD as a single track to make sure the songs were played in the correct order.

It looks like the Bolero will only play tracks in alphabetical order - unless anybody knows different!!

  3. The rattle will only happen at startup before the tensioner does it's work and tightens the chain.

There seems to be a number of threads about this where the "victims" have cars outside of warranty. Needless to say these guys are understandably pretty upset as a new engine is expensive. An example is below.....

Personally, I had no real issues with the service from the dealer and a new engine was fitted FOC. It's now been run in properly (<4500 rpm) and the oil was changed after 1500 miles.

Currently, I've no info on other faults. It's been fine since I got the car in July.

  4. Don't know if this info is too late but, another thing to listen out for is a ratlle when starting on the 2.0 TFSI engines - the ones with a timing chain. I heard the rattle from several cars when I was looking to buy, but didn't realise the potential for damage.

If the rattle lasts for more than a couple of seconds, BEWARE - the timing chain tensioner has backed off too much over night and this leaves the possibility of the chain jumping before the tensioner gets to pressure. When this happened to my 2009 VRS 9 days before the warranty expired, it cost Skoda a new engine - 8 bent inlet valves and four marked pistons!! All the damage was caused when starting the engine.

It's a known fault and there is a VW/SKODA bulletin for this to get the tensioner changed.

Check out the GTI forums as well.

    Good luck :whew:

  5. You are not alone.

I have this same intermiitent issue and it only appears if the headlights are switched on.

At the last service the local dealer said he couldn't find anything wrong, and he suggested just reseating all bulbs.

Strangely, I have just had a new engine fitted under warranty, so lots of disturbance of electrics etc., and it has only been used since then with the headlights on.

No bulb warnings yet (??), so maybe this is a poor connection issue?

  6. Thanks for the reply.

No, there's no maxidot, so all I get is the warning bulb with the exclamation mark.

If the warning is going to show, it only appears when the headlights are on, but even with the headlights on, the warning doesn't always show.

I suspected that the front side lights were dummies, but I thought it would be useful to check - I have recently seen a facelifted octy with sidelights working, so they must have added lights as an extra..

  7. I have a 59 plate VRS with xenon headlights, and seem to have issues with faulty lights warning on the dash - it cannot make it's mind up whether I have a blown bulb or not! When I put my headlights on, sometimes the warning light come on and at other times it stays off. Although on one occasion i did find a blown bulb in the rear sidelight cluster.

    Anybody else had this issue?

Another query is the sidelight bulb above the main headlight - on cars fitted with xenons. Is this meant to come on when the headlights are on? The bulb appears to be blue.

    Thanks for your help.

  8. Hi Guys,

I am a potential owner of a 2007/2008/2009 Octavia 2.0T FSI VRS hatch. I've looked at a number of cars and noticed a musty smell in the boot. On one car, the spare wheel well had water in it.

Is there an issue with water getting into the boot, or are these unusual Octavias?

    Thanks for your feedback

    Cheers

    Jeff
