  1. So as i posted in General car chat, the time had come to replace my Mk1 Octavia vRS. I had owned it for 7 years and covered almost 100,000 miles in it, but it was getting very tired and expensive so it was time to go. My circumstances have changed considerably in the last 12 months and i no longer needed a larger car. I considered a few options, top of my list was a Mk5 GTI Edition 30.. however people seem to be asking incredible amounts for fairly high mileage cars so i knocked that idea on the head after watching them for a few months. I also considered an S2000, Z4 or 350Z but i need fuel economy better than any of those could offer so i was left scratching my head, then it hit me.. a 1 series would be spot on! I looked around and read the reviews and was considering a 120d but i knew i would never be happy with it knowing there was a 123d. Also all of the reviews i read said the 120d doesn't even compare to the 123d even though they are essentially the same engine. So the hunt began.. i knew exactly what i was after but finding one proved a PITA! Then i found the one i ended up buying, slightly older than i wanted but with only 30k on the clock. Its a 2008 123d M Sport 3 Door in Silver with M Sport 208 18" wheels and black Boston leather interior. Standard the car is 204bhp but it has been mapped so is currently around the 240bhp mark. Having lived with the car for a few weeks now and doing a mix of motorway, traffic and general hoon i am getting around 50mpg on average. I am yet to do a steady motorway run to see what that returns. The gearbox is the shortest box i have ever driven, 1st and 2nd are almost none existent so its not quick off the mark at all. However in gear acceleration is epic! First mod was a stubby antenna which bizarrely was from a Citroen, but it fits and looks good.
  2. Another vote for the Latitude.. it is a business grade laptop, unlike the consumer grade rubbish they flog in PC world. I would also echo the comments that £800 isn't much for the spec you are asking; you get what you pay for!
  3. No i don't have iDrive, but no cup holders either. :(
  4. So after a couple of weeks of 1 series ownership.. i might have to get rid because of a very very serious problem with the car! It doesn't have any cup holders!!! Not one single place to store a beverage!
  5. My favorite from student days was called a Soviet Ice Bomb. Half champagne half sours mix with a shot of Parfait d'Amour. You drop the shot into the mix and down in one.. tastes just like Palma Violets. I use champagne loosely.. it was normally the cheapest white fizz money could buy.

I think you miss the point of a bond film, when have they ever been realistic? I went to see it in IMAX and thoroughly enjoyed it, i also really like DC as Bond.. *hides*

And this belongs in General Car chat because....
  8. Having a google it has been to BMW since they issued the fix so i would hope it has been done, i might give them a call just to make sure.
  9. I thought that was the 3 series?
  10. Well i picked it up yesterday.. love it so far! The 123d isn't particularly quick off the mark due to the fact the gearbox is so short, but in gear acceleration it is astonishing! This one has been remapped so its currently around 240bhp. Now to get rid of the 'tavia.
  11. Pretty cool and fair play.. but i have to ask why!? I wouldn't host anything even remotely important on that stuff. Far far too many points of failure! That AC unit is laughable.
  12. Well, the time has come for my trusty Octavia vRS to be replaced. :( I can say hand on heart its been the best car i have ever had. I have owned it for the best part of 7 years and in that time it has been pretty much faultless, we have had some highs and lows together and i will be seriously sad to see it go. Now on 156,000 miles its had a hard life and it has the battles scars to prove it, but i still love driving it. I think i will probably shed a tear when it goes. So whats its being replaced with.. well i have put a deposit down on a lovely little 3 door BMW 123d M Sport. I toyed with the idea of another octavia but i don't need anything that big any more. I'll post some pics up once i have it in my possession. I look forward to never having to use my indicator again and driving 2 inches from the back of you on the motorway, after all it is now my god given right!
  13. Woah there tiger! Before you continue calling me a thief and insulting my income.. At no point did i say performers deserve to earn nothing! What i was saying was most artists just want their music to be appreciated and listened to, hence the big rise in artists simply giving their music away. How much does the original artist get from the sale of a CD any way and how much goes to record company share holders? I would argue that going to the cinema is very expensive whether you earn £1m a year or £10k a year. Ferrari ownership and an evening out at the cinema are hardly comparable are they? I am not saying people have the right to steal simply because they can't afford it, i am saying by making it more affordable people might reconsider their opinion and wouldn't mind paying for it. I think services like Netflix are on their way there, but the content is limited and isn't always that new. You could apply the same argument to drugs for example. If you dispensed heroin over the counter from a controlled source for free, would you wipe out the drugs industry in the UK overnight? You would probably also stop a hell of a lot of burglaries, muggings and car crime. I am not saying its a brilliant idea, but it is food for thought.
  14. I would argue that if they got into the business for the sole purpose of making money, rather than the love of their art then they are not someone i would want to listen to any way. Makes these things 'affordable' and piracy would take a massive blow. If it cost me £3.50 to see a film at the cinema i would go all the time, instead it costs a couple £20+ in tickets alone. If you also reduced the time between cinema release and an affordable 'other media' be that DVD or streaming then people would be less inclined to download it illegally to see it sooner.
  15. I thought dropbox gave you an additional 500mb of storage just for uploading a photo automatically, they then proceed to keep giving you 500mb if you fill it. So fill your extra 500mb, they give you another 500mb, fill that and they will give you another 500mb etc etc etc
  16. Didn't we have one of these threads a few years ago?
  17. Out of interest, how are Boots doing? I never buy anything from them because they are so massively over priced and the supermarket/wilkinsons is cheaper.
  18. I wouldn't expect much from a graphic designer for a whole tenner...
  19. Microsoft still recommend 32 bit office even on 64 bit systems. They say 64bit should only be used if absolutely necessary.
  20. Yikes.. that should just be harvested for a few parts a crushed!
  21. But rather than having two different types of graphic, loading all 8 different images and swapping them on hover, he will have 4 tiny png's with transparency and the rest is handled with css. Its a painful conversation.. so i have just 'done' it. With fireworks editable vectors included. You will just need to save them as flattened png 32's icons.zip
  22. yep.. i just used blue and red as an example. You can put any hex or rgb value you like.
