  1. thanks for the replies guys i appreciate it im in both camps in as much as how can i learn without using it but also the VCDS Lite may be good to learn on? what does the Lite not do? can it change things like 1 press on key to open all doors and make the mirrors go in when you lock the car etc? my car is fitted with headlight wash but i dont think they are working does the Lite VCDS cover things like this?
  2. was going to see a member on here who kindly offered to do a VCDS read and clear etc of my car but the wife fell ill so i couldn't make it. the wife has just said she will buy me the VCDS for my birthday in 2 weeks if i want it  my question is this, is it worth it for me? i have just bought a 2006 Octavia and my son has a 2008 Octavia and we are possibly getting a new Octavia or Superb in the next year or so i know that i can go on the list(map) of people who can help others but i am a novice and wouldn't want to screw someones car up because i don't know what i am doing so what do you guys who use it in a hobby capacity think? is it worth it for me? is it easy enough to get round and learn without bricking the ecu? thanks in advance guys :coffee:
  3. i am getting it fitted on Wednesday i ordered the flywheel and bolts from Euro car parts numbers 640440500 (bolts) and 336445050 (DMF) both LUK i also need a rear engine mount but they seem to come in upper and lower ? so i have ordered 337442735 (lower) and 337442885 (upper) all these numbers are euro car parts numbers so we will see whats what on Wednesday at least i will know things are right because i will have had it done! thanks for all the help guys it is greatly appreciated
  4. just an update guys, i have not had chance to do the test that bigjohn suggested but took the car for a long drive the judder occurs when going from 2nd to 3rd and really badly if i accelerate hard and also when in the lower gears when coasting round corners or after braking to take corners and then lifting off the accelerator
  5. thanks John i will give that a try this afternoon and report back
  6. im not sure John i will check tomorrow it was driven back on trade plates by my mates emplyee who has the traders policy i cleared the faults with my £9.99 ebay code reader and they have not come back all the airbox is loose and one of the pipes from the airbox is broken and holed i gave £1100 for it and knew the eml was on when i bought it but thought it was worth a punt. thanks for the reply and help so far folks
  7. thanks for the reply the weird thing is that the rattle is only there every 30 seconds or so and lasts for about 10 seconds? thanks for the reply where are they £50? cheers
  8. i have just bought a 2006 Elegance from the auction and took a chance on it as the EML light was on the eml light was on and it had 2 codes but 1 could not be read by my cheap code reader the other code was P0401 when it was driven back from the block it kicked out some smoke but then cleared but the egr valve looks dirty and oily also the airbox has a hole in it when accelerating i get a judder and while on tick over there is a metalic rattle every now and then from the passenger side the guy who drove it back said it sounds like the wheel bearing is on its way out before i start to fit DMF etc i have read the EGR can cause these symptons as well? any help appreciated guys its got 118k miles with history Model is elegance tdi pd A max power (kw) 103 engine BKD A15763
  9. that's what i was thinking but the Yorkshire in me thinks its a bargain....... but then again .....
  10. from what i am seeing on the net its £500 to recon a box although i do know thats for gearbox's that are simple and manual etc so i would think it would be expensive
  11. i have been looking at getting a Octavia with high miles says in advert its not been a taxi but a company owner heres the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112031423331?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l6345&_trkparms=gh1g%3DI112031423331.N101.S2.R1.TR14&autorefresh=true my questions are this in the event of failure of engine or gearbox are the parts readily available for these ie replacement engine or gearbox at reasonable prices? what type of engine is in this car? are there any other things i should be looking at? it has full skoda service history thanks for any advice folks
  12. thanks to the keen eyes of langers2k we now have this sorted and have the FM now working on the head unit it was half of the plug that was left in place when the head unit was removed. I have to say in my defence that I sent the picture to 3 cable suppliers on ebay and 2 cable suppliers from a google search and the 3 ebay sellers said they couldn't help as they had never seen such a plug and couldn't help and the 2 uk suppliers never even responded so im glad I came on here thanks to all who replied
  13. well I never make no wonder no one has seen one before! I will get the head unit out later this week and have a good look (well a lot bloody better than I have already ) I do hope it is as simple as this thanks for your input I will report back soon
  14. I posted this in the Octavia help part of the forum we are having issues getting a cable that will fit please could you guys in the know help? thanks http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/359316-bolero-from-superb-fit-into-octavia-ii/
  15. has anyone got any ideas? if you look at the pictures above you will notice that the single fakra is not an issue but it is the white double fakra that is causing issues in as much as it is solid so I cant get anything to fit I am wondering if I could destroy a plug and just use the male part to go in the hole?
  16. would be good to get FM only but cant find anything to fit onto the Fakra block if that makes sense? I can find loads that will fit into the aerial single fakra on the car but getting something to fit the head unit is not possible from the feedback I get from ebay sellers and audio shops
  17. it does not fit and all the double leads on ebay wont fit onto the white block
  18. still got nowhere with the plug on the Bolero im wondering how hard it is to either change the head unit input or cutting and soldering a cable? is there anyone who makes these cables?
  19. the main issue is the double plug on the rear of the Bolero as I cant see any leads that would fit
  20. update on this..... got the facia and the head unit fits perfect and works great the only issue we have is that none of the Fakra single to double seem to be compatible I have pictures but the site wont let me post them the issue as I see it is that the Bolero we have fitted has a double Fakra that is a solid block so none of the cables I have seen will fit please is there anyone here who can post the pictures onto this thread if I email them? cheers
  21. ok so that causes some concern as it seems there are different shapes of bolero/stream out there? I say this because the bolero I have is definitely NOT the same shape as the stream that we want to replace but in the link above the guys are saying they are?
