thread update.... Been to look at at an 07 Octavia vRS today, which appears to run very well, regular servicing, Eagle F1 tyres, new brake disks etc. Only downside is there's 2 marks which appear to be limestone, which would be the only reason I can think of to haggle him down. He's valuing the car at £7000 (mileage is ~60k). In my opinion, that is far off the mark, but he doesn't seem to think so. I personally would pay £6500 absolute tops with the paint work included on that. Parkers value it around £6500 I believe for a good condition trade. Anyone got any advice on how I could make a case to bring the price down?

Do these mk2 vRS versions have Front or/and Back heated screens? Just wondered how they cope in the cold weather! on a side note... still looking for one, missed out on 2 great one's recently and potentially one on the radar. Nearly 2 months to find a decent one now!

Great post, thanks for that mate. I've also noticed the prices slowly reducing in the last few months, as you've stated above. Not sure where all the diesel speculation has come from! 100% looking for a petrol, especially when I'm driving a VAG engine with 175k on the clock

I'm pretty convinced that if I wasn't looking specifically for a Metallic Blue, I'd have a high spec one already!

Not really too concerned about it. Commute is 30-40 mins each way and overall will be covering around ~10k a year. I'm driving a 02 1.9TDI Passat at the moment and that gets me about 46-50mpg on current commute. More looking for the performance upgrade of the vRS compared the above. Hopefully this should be pretty significant?

Yeh I somewhat agree with what you're saying, but when you're looking to spend a large sum of money, you should be picky. Agree about the parking sensors and they would be top of the list, with the xenons & cruise being a bonus. If I wasn't looking for a blue one or lived up north I would probably have one by now!

so my search for a MK2 vRS continues... Currently looking for: - Metallic Blue mk2 2.0L vRS - Manual - Petrol - Up to 70k miles - Hatchback Really struggling to find any decent models where I'm located. All of the well priced one's are too far up north! I've missed out on 2 really good buys however, because I couldn't get there in time before they sold, so hopefully something will turn up soon. Did anyone else find these difficult to find? Autotrader returns about 4-5 results, pistonheads 0! and parkers about 3-4.

have you managed to sell this yet? If you were here for another weekend I probably would have bought this off you, but unfortunately no daylight hours to view it :(

Admittedly the facelift version looks much better, but can't warrant paying another £3-£4k on top of maximum budget.

Yeh that's basically what I noticed and I would definitely pick the lower mileage over the extras - I mean they're called extras for a reason! Blue's the only way to go for me.

Yeh won't be rushing any purchase, It's more of a want rather than need at the moment Doesn't seem to be any decent ones on that eBay link for the price I can afford and same goes for Skoda used unfortunately. Would love to look at the 2009 facelifted versions, but probably looking at £7k max, so a 2005-2009 mk2. * Thanks again for your opinions above *

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I've probably read enough to start properly looking. The only issue I'm finding at the moment, is that they seem to be very rare! I'm really set on getting the blue colour as I feel that looks fantastic. It's interesting what you say above about the badge, a lot of people are so oblivious to the fact that SKODA is part of VW now and are not anything like the cars they were 10 years ago! I'm looking at private seller ~40-60k mileage, blue, no mods and hopefully xenons or any additional equipment. Autotrader, Pistonheads and Parkers only bring up about 10 in their searches, so I'm thinking this might be a long waiting game! Doesn't seem to be any in that sort of range on here at the moment, although I did see a few were sold not that long ago which I would have been very interested in! Unless you guys know of anywhere else to look?

Hi all, 1st post! I'm looking to purchase a mk2 2.0 fsi vRS. Heard lots of good things about the car and signed up here to get some buying advice. What I would like to know is: Petrol consumption - claims 36mpg... Realistic? How much do you get on average? Common faults - anything to look out for on this model? Gearbox - what's this 6 speed manual like to use? Smooth? What's the low/mid range power like? Steering - how good is the steering? Seating - are the bucket sports seats comfortable? Grip/Traction - how's the cornering and traction.. does it stick well? Essential extras - anything I should look out for? Hoping for one with xenons, Thanks for any replies
