  1. Hi All, As I'm new to the ownership of my vRS, the oil light check light has now popped up and I'm undecided which Oil would be best to get. I've read that getting fully synthetic is essential, however is it worth spending extra on brands such as Castrol and Mobil etc or maybe go with the Halfords/Shell own brands which are cheaper? Any advice would be great.
  2. We have had a shocking bit of weather over the last 4 months and on top of that there's a giant pothole in every road you drive on :wonder: Obviously other contributing factors such as off tracking and wrong tyre pressures will speed up the wear
  3. how do you guys measure your tyre pressures? I've been told the petrol station pumps are not very accurate and was maybe thinking about one of the monitors you can buy.
  4. I put on 2 x Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 2 on my the front of my vRS and they have been fantastic. They are much quieter than the Conti Sport 3's that were on their originally. They're pricey, but they're reinforced and rated 'A' for wet grip. Would highly recommend if you can afford
  5. doesn't look like I have it. Checked it again and definitely can't see anything there! Any ideas?
  6. Question people... There doesn't appear to be an aux or USB connection in the car. Any ideas how I might play mp3 through the stereo? Don't want to consider Bluetooth btw as I've experienced this before and it's shocking! Ps loving the car to bits!
  7. My 2.0T vRS TFSI was maxing out at 32mpg, which I thought was a bit low. Reset the trip computer completely and long and behold it went up to 32-36mpg! That's for a 40-50minute commute with light traffic and A-roads only. The way I get good MPG and did also on my passat, was that I found cruising to a stop saves so much fuel and also shifting in the gears as opposed to using your brakes to slow you down. These are the 2 best tips I can recommend. If you're really struggling then avoid accelerating hard in low gears and avoid topping the rev counter... but then that's no fun is it edit: also worth noting that this is using normal Unleaded. Will be filling up with the premium for the next few fills, so this hopefully will increase it further!
  8. I may just try it for 3-4 fills up and see if I notice any difference. After all, it does recommend using it on the petrol cap and there's no harm trying it out
  9. Mr blue - In your experience, how much extra performance and mpg have you gained from using the premium?
  10. quick question for you all.... Does using premium unleaded make any difference to just unleaded petrol? (I fill up at Tesco). I've heard small gains in MPG, but not sure it's worth it considering its about 7p per litre more.
  11. The vRS I just bought yesterday has these Dunlop's on the back and Conti Sport 3's on the front. I'm about to replace the conti sport 3's (due to wear) for the Eagle F1 AS2's you've mentioned above. A lot of people have recommended them to me, so getting them fitted this week. As for the Dunlop's, if they were low on wear as well, I'd be replacing them with the Eagle's straight away. After reading some reviews on the Dunlop's, they are rated pretty poorly for wear and performance. Eagle F1's all the way!
  12. haha sorry about that . Thanks mate, It took me long enough to find the exact one I was after! I've even had the first vRS owner give me the waves on the road, a blue FL version
  13. Well... after months I finally found one and picked it up yesterday Unfortunately the weather has been terrible!
  14. Another thread update... Picked up my blue vRS today and first impressions are loving it! Unfortunately the weather has been terrible rain and looks like I'll be driving in the snow tomorrow.. typical Guess I'll find out how well it grips in bad weather! Will post some pics up when possible
  15. Thanks for the info. I'm slightly leaning towards the Eagle F1's as they've come up top trump in some of the reviews I read yesterday. Considering how bad our weather is generally, it might be worth opting for the better tyre in the wet?
  16. .. oh and also wanted to ask about Tyres. It's probably going to need a front tyre, maybe 2. Have looked at the Eagle F1 and Conti. Sport 3 tyres - anyone have any recommendations on which is better?
  17. Another update! so... finally found a good one and have agreed to buy from a private seller next Sunday! Race Blue - 06 plate Xenons 49k Miles Full Service History Immaculate paintwork Agreed at £5.9k, think I got a good deal considering the mileage on it and how well it's been looked after! Will post pics when I pickup on Sunday!! Also...Just want to say thanks to everyone who's helped out with their responses in the thread. Thanks all and can't wait to be part of the Skoda ownership
  18. I'm pretty sure that is a seller from this forum mate Edit: Yep I think it's "vrspete" car! Send him a message
  19. Thanks for all the info above people, appreciated! Another small question... seen one up for sale at the moment which is listed as 'blue' and got me thinking as to whether they did a metallic race blue and also just a blue colour? Are there 2 blue's? Does anyone know of a website that details the colours which were standard/optional on cars in general? Would be interesting to see
  20. Thanks for the info bubbles - much appreciated. If there's an issue, this rattle will exist during the whole time the engine is on? Not too late as I've decided that one I viewed was silly overpriced and think I'm going to be patient and wait for a private seller, as the price drop is quite dramatic. On this note - what are the other common major faults with this model?
  21. Have you seen the one down in Bexhill on Sea that's up for £5995? Baring it mind you're in the Kent area, I would of definitely gone to see it if it wasn't so far away! Looks a superb example: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201212244725706
  22. Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm aware it's highly priced so wouldnt sven considert offering close to that 7k. I think I may just be more patient (been looking for about 4 months now), as I saw a couple of amazing ones going around £5k, which I lost out on as they were both sold the day before I viewed! Re: above post - thanks for the reply, il bare that in mind, although really looking for a hatchback rather than estate. Does sound good though I've got bookmarks on autotrader, piston heads, parkers, eBay, gum tree it's crazy how little blue ones there are out there (mk2) !
  23. thread update.... Been to look at at an 07 Octavia vRS today, which appears to run very well, regular servicing, Eagle F1 tyres, new brake disks etc. Only downside is there's 2 marks which appear to be limestone, which would be the only reason I can think of to haggle him down. He's valuing the car at £7000 (mileage is ~60k). In my opinion, that is far off the mark, but he doesn't seem to think so. I personally would pay £6500 absolute tops with the paint work included on that. Parkers value it around £6500 I believe for a good condition trade. Anyone got any advice on how I could make a case to bring the price down?
  24. ha i saw this pop up on autotrader yesterday! That dealer looks very sketchy, but there selling AMG, Lambo etc! Cool to know this is yours mate
