Thanks for all the advice/comments. Have now had a drive in a 1.4. Ride is not as comfortable as my 62 plate diesel Octty. Wife hated it although she loves our present one. It is off the new car short list.

Only if you've got a diesel car which is more than 6 years old in 2021. The London Ultra Low Emission Zone will require diesel cars to meet Euro 6 emission standards. This includes all new diesel cars sold in the UK since September 2015, including Octavias.

Correct unfortunately my Octavia is 62 plate Euro 5.

"EU emissions rules are due to change further in 2021,........... "
My late great uncle Sam, of the Royal Horse Artillery (WW1) always said that one day, the horse would make a come-back! Don't ask me how much CO2 a pair of Suffolks would emit ............... and don't mention the methane.
I remember it well

Now I am confused. I have just been told by a main dealer that the suspension on the 1.5 and the 2.0 as standard is the same. The DCC appears from the configurator to be an £870 option on either.

Don’t forget (at least in the UK) you can factory upgrade to all season tyres on 17” wheels.
The configurator gives a 16" all season tyre as an option.

Stacks of options when you get a new car but you do not even get to know what tyres are in the standard spec let alone having any options. Choice of tyre has to be more important than choice of upholstery surely?

The Wipac headlight on my old BSA was like a glow worm in a beer bottle.
Which reminds me sometime in the 50's my father bought a 1930s BSA car. I suspect it only had about 10hp when it was new. To this day I am traumatised by memories of 14 hour 'holiday' journeys to Cornwall /Devon in it. I recall with particular fondness those golden times when we had to get out and carry the luggage to get up some west country hills.
Ah those blue remembered hills

My Octy Mark II TDi 2.0 2012 was on the affected list. Was offered a free optional 'retune'. Not really a problem for me to be honest.

Afaik electric folding mirrors are standard on the SE-L.
Spoke to a main dealer today and they agreed they are standard on the SE L. So that is £160 saved.
Thanks

Many Thanks for the advice people. I am convinced the 2.0 is worth going for; I did not need much convincing to be honest.
Interesting about the folding mirrors; @GaryL I will have to get that confirmed one way or the other by the dealer when I order. Methinks electric folding mirrors should be standard on this spec.

Not sure which power output your diesel is. I am guessing the 140 or 150
There have been some problems with 1.5 petrols with manual gearbox, seems to be be easy to stall in first gear, since it was remapped for WLTP (particularly seems to affect Karoq and there is a thread In that section. However a remap (technical software update) is expected sometime in 2019 to improve this
The generally accepted view is the new engines work brilliantly with DSG boxes (and seem to be optimised to do so), but are not easiest to drive smoothly with a manual
If you choose the 2 litre it will have plenty of power.
Obviously the new diesels are plagued by emissions kit, and with ships changing to 0.5% sulphur fuel in 2020, the fuel could easily be 20-30p litre more than petrol (to to refinery capacity) in 2020. So sensible to move away from diesel.
Unless you specify the spare you get the gunk and no jack
The rear sensors also show on the display to best of my knowledge
Not sure on the other items as not upto date on specs of Octavia.
Happy Christmas
Thanks for that John. I am only considering a DSG. Having had a DSG box no way would I go back to a manual. Already decided to move away from Diesel. From 2021 0nwards will cost me at least £12.50 everytime I drive to the end of my road with a diesel under the new London emission regs.

Mirror description came up a while back. It is indeed manual folding with the adjustment and heating being the electrical part.
Thanks for that @MarkyG82

Already asked this in the buying new Skoda forum. Hope it is OK to post same questions here.
I am thinking of trading my Mark 2 2012 TDi 2.0 DSG Octavia for a new petrol Octavia. The performance of the TDi 2.0 suits me fine. Will the Mark 3 1.5 TSi give me similar performance or should I think about the 2.0 petrol version. I am looking at the SE L models which according to the configurators come with those two petrol options.
Couple of things in the SE L package that I cannot work out. It gives powered folding mirrors as an option but they also seem to be standard*? Any info appreciated.
* The configurator says 'Electrically adjustable, heated and foldable mirrors with boarding spots' which is a bit ambiguous about the folding mechanism.
Space saving spare is an option on the configurator anyone know what the standard kit is? Is it the bottle of gunk and an electric pump. I have a full size spare (much my prefered option) unused that I bought a couple of years ago for the Mark 2 anyone know if this will fit the studs on the Mark 3 and is there room in the boot cavity for it if I hang onto it?
Lastly the SE L standard says Acoustic rear parking sensors. Is acoustic feedback all you get ? Is there no on screen graphic indicator?
Many Thanks for any info and Merry Christmas.

Drive by wire throttle can record full down without the peddle being down if there was a switch fault.
In this case the recordings do not show continuous full down but a lifting off and and drop in speed just prior to the impact.
The coroner certainly appears to have accepted that there was no evidence of any malfunctions.

Can anyone suggest what the owner might stand to gain from getting this fix? What might it fix? As far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with my car and we already know the tax band is fixed.

From a govt perspective in Australia frinstance
Annual State registration process could be subject to the VIN being ticked off as complying with the relevant clean air act.
In other words not able to be reregistered until the recall has been completed.
For Govt that's a significant issue to resolve ...........they're in a bind also.
Umm,,, I wonder could a government withdraw certification for a vehicle type years after having approved it? If they tried would owners have a case against said government for authorising sales of an inadequately tested vehicle?
-
Unfortunately it will not be a choice Richard
What are they going to do come round and seize it for compulsory remap?

Just for the people moaning about it....

So no reason for anyone to allow the software on their car to be messed with?

Oh dear only just found out about this; walking past the showroom and did a double take when I realised the badges had gone.
Glad to hear you are still selling Skodas Lee will no doubt see you at Walthamstow.
Best of Luck in the new job

Thanks Adam. Will try that next time it happens. Or should I just give it a go anyway.
As for the rest of you,,, I'm just glad I did not have a problem turning off my seat heaters. What larks you would have had with that.

Twice now in the last couple of months I have not been able to get anything but very hot air from the dash vents even with dials turned to LO. First time just the drivers side this week all vents. When I stop the car and start again the problem has disappeared. Dealer has done a check but without the problem present they have no answers yet although they are looking into it.
Anyone had similar? Any ideas? Thanks

The trim on my DNX521 is exactly the same as the rest of the car trim. I don't know if it is the brushed alloy you have. It is an alloy colour with a small pattern of diagonal squares, if that helps.
Trading Mark2 TDi Octy for new petrol one; opinons needed.

In fact I found the interior quality of the new Mk3 I drove disappointing compared with my Mk2.
