  1. I never did get to the bottom of this, basically the drivers side window control doesn't work the passenger side window, the passenger side works fine. Any ideas on what to look for. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  2. The tech world moves very quickly. Glad you're happy with the choice you made, that's all that matters at the end of the day. I'm still going to go for the htc one or s4 in a few weeks personally. I'm sure I'll be as happy as you when I upgrade.
  3. As long as what you pay monthly doesn't increase I don't think it matters. I have a galaxy s2 at the minute and I pay around £25 a month for a good bundle of minutes data and texts. I'm toying with the idea of Sim only rolling 30 day contract, but I am a tech head and I *want* a new handset. I know I don't need one but my contract has been around the same price for 11 years. Sure I could save around 10 quid a month (compared to giff gaff similar offer) which is £240 over 2 years. I'm happy to pay that for a new phone. It is less when you consider my phone is still worth around £100 used if I decided to sell it. The upgrade scam works everywhere from cars to mobiles to computers to home furnishings to broadband. It all depends what you use your phone for.
  4. Not much help to now mate but you could import your Google contacts to yahoo. Then import the yahoo contacts to your iPhone. I had to do this for a work colleague once, it was a bit of a faff but so much easier than typing them in.
  5. I'm in the same boat. I'm eligible for an upgrade at the beginning of July. I'm looking at the HTC One, Galaxy S4 or holding out for the release of the next nexus device. I'm surprised you didn't look at the HTC One it is a very capable handset.
  6. Thanks for the help and advice guys I actually went out and had some saluns put on the rear. Got the pair for around 60 each fitted. When it comes to getting tyres for the front i will probably go for something better though. I think there are hankooks on the front. I have heard some good things about excelera from a mechanic mate of mine who has an m3 but they didn't have any of them in the tyre shop i went to.
  7. So last night I checked over the fabia and saw there was a screw in my tyre a few mil from the side wall, then happened to notice that the side wall was split on the other tyre. Brilliant. My mileage has dropped from 12k a year to under 3. Obviously I don't want to spend a fortune but similarly don't want rubbish. Any ideas on half decent brands or places to avoid? 8. The timing adv display on torque on my mobile is showing a consistent value of 63.5. I'm no expert but i guess this means my timing is advanced
  9. I Did initially think mini or Moke. But I think I'm way off the mark with that one. It is definitely what I would class classic though. It's not a hillman imp or an mg midget. So I'm all out of ideas now.
  10. It looks nice, the leather looks great too. I don't see the point in it personally, seems a lot to pay out for little pay off if you know what I mean. I still like it though.
  11. This is the same as my vrs. Onboard says 50-60 depending on how I drive. Brim to brim says 40, I'm convinced there is a problem with it, the indie I bought it from says no and it must have been remapped, I disagree and fully intend to don my deerstalker hat and solve the problem. I've had the coolant light flash up a couple of times on mine too, coolant level in the tank is fine though so I'm keeping an eye on that. I'll get a quote for a cts at some point this weekend and try that, maybe.
  12. Do you have the parcel shelf string bits that attach to the boot, to lift the shelf when you open the boot? I never had any on mine when I picked up my car the other week.
  13. All fixed. You were correct. Thanks very much for the diagnosis it really helped. Now i am nice and warm as soon as set off, not 15 minutes into my journey.
  14. Just again, to be clear I'm not condoning this behaviour. It could be that the next generation will be better than the one before, not making the mistakes their parents made... Wait, no, sorry my bad. I can see where I went wrong there. There will be a tipping point and things will change. It always happens, it just depends what causes it.
  15. My 54 plate is an asz for what it's worth.
  16. If it is any help i think i am having similar issues with my fabia vrs on a 54 plate. I am only getting 40mpg from it if i drive it really carefully. I have an obd reader that seems to take a lot longer to report getting to 90 than the dials do. I don't know if that shows a dodgy CTS or not, if you have access to a reader it may be able to help point you in the right direction.
  17. I was all for this until the last sentance. It should read: Half of what the forces budget is then give the forces the saving made on the cons food budget.
  18. Welcome and congratulations. I picked up my 54 plate Fabian vrs last month and with a couple of niggly issues I'm getting to the bottom of I thoroughly love it. It has to be one of the nicest cars I've driven, not that I've driven that many. Do you have any more details, mileage pics etc?
  19. Technically it is more like 620 a month as there are 13 payments, 20.30 for your 1st and 13.40 for your subsequent children. Anyway that is a technicality and I see your point. But how much food and drink do 11 kids consume? I hadn't read the article earlier and still haven't but FFS horses. We have a dog, that costs us enough. On an unrelated topic can we stop the in bashing amongst members, this isn't the issue. There are bound to be reasons in someone's personal life as to why they may not want to report a family member. Rightly or wrongly that is not the discussion here. Personally I would not want to shop one of my wife's cousins. Fortunately I'm not in a position where I have to make that decision, I'm not sure what the outcome would be if I was though. Realistically though what can be done to make a change to the system. Would petitioning our MPs for change make a difference?
  20. Child benefit isn't the issue here though, to be honest it is quite a small amount after the 1st anyway. I cant remember exactly but for bot our children the child benefit part is around 120 a month or maybe a bit more. The real issue is the other benefits, housing, job seekers, and who knows what else you can claim. Where i live which is out in the country houses are expensive, jobs are tricky to find and the cost of living is high. There is sporadic public transport that doesn't take you where you want to go. But even so I plod on and go to work every day because I was raised that way. You only get what you earn. I used to get pocket money for doing jobs at home to help my folks. Then at 11 I took a paper round to get more cash. At 15 I started an evening job to get cash and experience. I'm sure a lot of you guys are the same. I wonder if that can be said for the scroungers of society. My mum worked 3 part time jobs so that we could have some luxuries as kids, nice holidays etc she didn't rely on handouts.
  21. My wife and I have 2 kids. They are great, we claim the benefits that we are entitled to in the form of tax credits and child benefit. We are not rich but in the same way we are not poor either. I work full time and my wife works part time. She would work full time but if she worked full time her wages would be less than the childcare bill and the benefits offered to compensate would be less. When our youngest is old enough to be out of the rip off that is nursery and into school she will try to get a term time job full time. I can understand the logic of working a flawed system to your advantage. Everyone does it one way or another. In my opinion though this is wrong. There are a few things that need to change. The cost of childcare needs to decrease to allow parents to work. The benefit system needs to change to reward those who work and not those that scrounge. I think that the benefit system should be there in certain circumstances. If you are laid off for instance or on genuine long term sick, but to demand a 400k house is wrong and completely out of order. There needs to be a radical change in this country stop handing things out willy nilly, stop hand outs to immigrants and spongers and start to reward the decent hard working family or hard working individuals.
  22. That is interesting to read, I will get the Haynes out and hopefully have a look tomorrow if the weather is good. I'm a bit of a novice with a spanner when it comes to engines but I'm happy to get my hands dirty as long as I can still drive at the end of my tinkering. It looks like I may have to invest in a suitable vagcom unit in the near future though.
  23. Interesting, thanks for that info. I bought it from a 3rd part dealer, I don't know if they even have a vag com, I'd like to hope so but you can never tell. My obd reader is an elm so no chance of it working with vcds. I'll have an ask around and see if anyone is local to me. There are a few people here from Devon too so i may get lucky if the garage can't/won't help. I find it amazing that something being so minutely amiss could have such a massive effect on the car.
  24. A couple of days before I bought the car, I insisted the garage I bought it from changed the belt and water pump. Is there something that may have been missed when they did that do you think?
