  1. I don't disagree with you - my point was that in my 2009 Audi A4 it Auto really was 'set and forget' because it worked perfectly. It weighed more, carried less, went round bends better, didn't do 60mpg though - every car is compromise...
  2. I don't think he wanted to hear about our 2.0D manual figures... (3126 miles when I filled up yesterday, a true 60.9mpg overall and a best of 74 from Swansea to Bristol).
  3. Good point. I suppose it is a bit like speedometers - they can't be under, so manufacturers make sure they are a bit over. Lucky you. The dealer told me that all the ones they tried in the workshop were the same (though I am not sure how they simulated dusk falling!).
  4. After 4 years with stop/start, that journey would drive me NUTS to have the engine idling, wasting fuel 24 times. If you want to let the turbo cool at the end of the journey, just keep the clutch in for 20 seconds then, and then turn off.
  5. Thanks. Sounds as though we all agree. Maybe we should campaign for a software update??
  6. On 11th July, my dealer said: "The option for a 230V outlet, although shown in the approved accessories brochure is a Europe option (excluding the UK) typical from Skoda, they are not willing to put a 3 pin plug for the UK option in the car." Edit: He subsequently said "I have just had a chat with an automotive electrical company that we use for aftermarket 'modifications' to vehicles and they could fit another 12v power outlet or cigarette lighter socket (subject to inspection) to the rear passenger compartment for £70.00 Plus VAT." but he is in Oxford and I am in Bristol, so I didn't pursue it (company car, so never went there).
  7. Surprised that you would expect to be bullied here - it's a nice place
  8. My father in law has had Octavia Mk1, Mk2 and Mk2 FL, so I was familiar with them all, but the Mk3 is the first one that I have ever wanted to own myself. @Kabe - loved the photos of the 3 perfect supermodels in the boot
  9. Unfortunately, I suspect my situation would have to be a lot worse than it is, before I could persuade our Fleet Management dept and a lease company that this car should be rejected.
  10. Probably a bit late for that and ones perspective is a little different when it is a company car... And these two faults are minor annoyances in the grand scheme of things.
  11. And in the meantime I have to keep taking my car in - and they always trash my economy figures!
  12. While I was at the dealer for the other problems, I also asked about the auto headlights - they seem to come on really early (when it isn't as dim as I would have turned on the lights myself) even though I have the sensitivity setting on "Late". It also hangs on to lights On long after I would have turned them Off in the morning. The dealer claims that they are working as designed. I would say that dipped beam in slightly low light is even less necessary now we have DRLs. And don't get me wrong - I am not advocating driving round in the dark with lights off, just not broad daylight with lights on! My benchmark is my 2009 Audi A4 which worked perfectly (also set to "Late"). Maybe I should just do it myself, but using Auto in the previous car just meant I could forget about switching as it just WORKED, and I want to go back to that. Should also stop being grumpy. Need a coffee.
  13. Update - (Having taken the car to a dealer near home in July, for them to perform a software update that didn't fix it) Two weeks ago, a dealer near where I work had the car all day to look at this and 2 other faults*. They said that the car needed a new "additional cooling pump". Yesterday they fitted the pump and I drove home to Bristol. Driving back to Swansea this morning - guess what? The light was back on!! Agghh *2 other faults in a new thread: SD Card 1 doesn't work + Load bang from speakers after unlocking
  14. Not related to my "Exhaust Inspection System" warning light thread, but dealt with at the same time. I reported 2 new faults: SD Card 1 has never worked - when looking at the source selection screen (Columbus), SD1 is greyed out while SD2 is fine When I unlock the car (KESSY), a few seconds later, there is a "bang" from the hifi speakers as if a current had been applied to the terminals. Happens roughly 50% of the time, regardless of whether I have opened the boot or the driver's door. Two weeks ago they looked at these issues and didn't know what the problem was. They thought that disconnecting the battery might help - it didn't fix either problem. Yesterday they said that they had done some more investigation and would have to order a media controller at a cost of £2000. I think this is probably the brains behind pretty much everything in the centre console!
  15. Steel Grey aka Platin Grey (and yes, it would have looked better with the matching Chrome window trim it was supposed to come with!).
  16. You did see this thread didn't you? Started on 10th September. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/288174-honest-mpg-figures/
  17. Ch. Grab yourself an Octy 3 diesel - probably more economical than James' Prius And btw, thanks for a great site Paul - helped me flash a lot of different android ROMs - I am about to direct someone there for rooting a G510.
  18. Not as snazzy as the Jaguar / Land Rover screen where the passenger can see the video but the driver see SatNav or whatever. (You went to school with a colleague of mine - James C).
  19. As soon as you start moving, the video goes away so it's not dangerous. The soundtrack continues. Videos also play from files on USB stick, SD card, internal hard disk... (MoDaCo?)
  20. Standard in the UK Gwyn - not necessarily in Sweden where the OP is from.
  21. I was going to explain the difference between "there" "their" and "they're", but I am not sure I can be bothered.
  22. LOL!!! 20 posts in this one thread since 16:52 yesterday and you are short of time. Hmmm.
  23. Wow, I am genuinely shocked at that attitude. On being asked a question on a forum I have e.g. gone out to my car, taken a photo, put the SD card in a PC, uploaded to the web, posted words and a link. And you can't be bothered to weigh a wheel when asked nicely. Repeatedly. Not sure you are really cut out for forum participation... (Puts on flak jacket). Edit - really like the wheels by the way.
  24. Map updates are said to be free for 3 years according to the brochure, but there seems to be no restriction on the download site, so if you DIY, I can't see why they wouldn't be free for 10 years. And you CAN have speed camera locations on the built-in SatNav, as explained by erniem in May. I am a member of PocketGPSWorld, but I haven't got around to following this process.
