  1. I had that in the Audi, but only because I paid for the Ambient Light Pack. I haven't been out after dark in the Octy yet, so I am very impressed to hear that they are standard
  2. Yes, Normal, and Sport which makes it heavier. Not sure if that is what you mean by "responsive". I am using "Individual" mode at the moment, set to Steering = Sport, Engine = Normal, Aircon = Eco. I have only had the car a few days, so these may change.
  3. Another option is to spend a bit of time in the house ripping your audio books to mp3 and them put multiples onto an SD card (or even to a CD as data files). Avoids the need to keep changing single CDs while you are driving. Good
  4. I am 6' 2" and have no idea what my height is in cm - mirrors are fine though
  5. Yes, I will believe it when I see it. At least I discovered today that I am not paying for it monthly or in BIK tax. Because of that nanosecond timing when it appeared to be standard fit, it was taken out of the costing without me realising (company car of course, so things aren't necessarily as transparent as when you are sitting at the dealership negotiating the old-fashioned way). So IF I get the trim, it will be free. And I have also had front mudflaps and sill plates fitted free of charge as a goodwill gesture for all the hassle I have had. I have had a few problems, but I really can't fault the dealer (like fixing the aircon asap and filling my tank back up today).
  6. Back on topic (though I have to echo the 2.0D all the way sentiment ). Deep breath. Here is my rationale for going for Columbus (though pretty much unique to me, I have to admit). In my old car, I listened to a lot of podcasts on an SD card and had a load of music on a hard drive in the glovebox ("Audi Music Interface"). An Octavia gives you 2x SD card slots whether you go for Aminsen or Columbus. The trouble with Amundsen is that the maps live on one of the SD cards, so that leaves one free. Podcasts or musinc? No, doesn't work for me. With the Columbus, the maps are on the built-in hard drive, leaving both SD card slots free. As a bonus, the Columbus also allows you to store 12GB of music on the internal hard drive. I plugged mu old portable hard drive into the USB slot in the lower dash and "imported" all of the music from it onto the car's internal hard drive. Pleasantly surprised that it hade the power to drive the HDD. So now I have podcasts on an SD card, music on a hard drive and a spare SD slot so my 14 year old daughter can introduce me to new music (I wouldn't have got to like The Vaccines without her!). I told you it was a unique set of requirements! Oh, and the huge screen with twice the resolution is gorgeous. Yes, I could have streamed music from a phone, but I would prefer to preserve battery life and not have to plug in to a charger all the time). Or I could have used CDs. You remember - Compact Discs. PS - I think the music player is fine without Canton too.
  7. Thanks for the suggestion, though I prefer to keep the handset higher, nearer the line of sight. Vent height is fine, just a shame it blocks the vent, if you know what I mean.
  8. Thanks. No, I have gone for the vent mount and will see how I get on. Just because I have always had a mount. I am on top of all the built in functionality, but I just prefer it there. I think I get a better signal there too, and I am not mad about having a long call with the phone in my trouser pocket. Keep 1W of full power transmission away from my bits, thank you very much.
  9. 29th April to 5th July - 2 month 6 days :-)
  10. I have the car back and it is nice and cool inside. Yay. And they had filled it with fuel (though they have trashed my good MPG figures, and probably my running-in). And they brought me a litre of top-up oil. And the boots nets are on order and will be posted to me. Now I just need my Brodit bracket to arrive and all will be sorted. And I need extension sockets in the back of the car, so that my daughter can charge her phone. Got used to 4x 12v outputs in the last car...
  11. Update - the car is fixed and on its way back to me. "The flap that lets the air circulate in to the car was not clipped in correctly. It is now, this was not picked up through fault finding as it was not an electrical error". The driver should be happier on his way back than when he left here - it is 29 degrees here and he was in a car with no aircon !!
  12. Continuing the posts on the previous page, I have now had a response from the dealer. I am sure you remember that there was lots of to-and-fro around the Chrome Window Trim a few months ago - whether it was standard, optional, available, made of cheese. Well it seems that it has been acknowledged that I ordered within the nanosecond when it was standard, so they will dealer fit the items "when they come available".
  13. Agree with all that - I filled up with about 60 miles on the odo, and the range showed 420 miles. By the time I got back from Swansea last night, the Range + Total driven was 700 miles (570+230). The best Range + Driven I ever saw on the Audi was 820, but then it had a 65 litre tank, not 50.
  14. In the 4 days that I have had the car we have had glorious sunshine and my climate control is knackered, so I can't comment on wet grip, and they may be quiet but I have been driving round with the windows open, drowning out any tyre noise
  15. No, that is standard suspension and standard Elegance wheels - 17". I did once have a 1.6D DSG Elegance hatch demo car that looked much more "on stilts"
  16. But it is a shame you can only accelerate in increments of 1mph (unless I have missed the trick) - on my old car a long press would do 5pm and a short press would do the 1mph.
  17. I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek about the PDI; I don't think I would expect it either. I don't remember hearing anything, but then I am not sure what I would be listening for. No matter - they can take it away tomorrow. Thanks! I hope they diagnose mine quickly - they say they will take it away at 9am tomorrow and if they can fix it within the day without having to wait for parts, they will bring it back. Otherwise I am away in their demonstrator for 2 days.
  18. Thanks & I agree. Obviously Rear mudflaps are standard and I got the dealer to fit the fronts. (I think it was that way round!). Edit: Picture in post #2 seems to be broken - here instead:
  19. I don't think about which side of the tunnel the handbrake is. More problematic is that it can be a little tricky to get at because I like the arm rest all the way forward and in it's highest position, so the handbrake is a bit hidden, but far from impossible - I am used to it already. (I would rather have an electronic handbrake, but I don't want to restart a religious war!). No, I do not have sport suspension, but I was also thinking that it isn't looking too "on stilts" though I am sure hardcore vRS drivers will disagree
  20. Obviously aircon isn't part of the PDI checklist, even when it is supplied in a heatwave! (Last Friday lunchtime, not that I drove it until Saturday).
  21. Thanks - I sit corrected. Just spoke to the dealer and they will take it up with Skoda - not that that is going to make much difference! I wasn't in a position to reject the car as it was delivered to my home address while I was away (company car) and it didn't feel fair to ask my wife to get into all that with a delivery man. I am annoyed though, having only paid £150 for the roof bars becuase I thought I was getting the window trim, for £150. So I feel £300 down. Of course this just means that I paid a bit more monthly through salary sacrifice. And I pay extra BIK tax for 48 months. Fear not, I will be following up with dealer / lease company / employer in a similar vein...
  22. Update - Supplying dealer is collecting my car tomorrow and lending me their demonstrator (described as "identical" and I CBAd to ask about the exact spec).
  23. It was ordered as Steel Grey, but I have an idea that Platinum Grey might be the same colour but a different name for countries other than the UK. I am sure someone else will confirm, or not. Better info from TudorM below.
  24. I was going to say that too - in the Audi I went out to the car one morning to find all 4 windows down. I turned it off after that. I assume the button was pressed in my pocket. I will keep it switched on for the Octy until the aircon problem gets fixed though!
