  1. I can concur with ease of entry and exit, I suffer from the same things. Annoys the hell out of me if I have park close the kerb on my side or if I can't get the door open far enough, it just makes everything harder.
  2. I really doubt that it is going to be spliced anywhere as it is on a 200A fuse and the next power load is the power steering at 80A, but I think @Breezy_Pete is going to confirm that for you later when he checks the wiring diagram. Have you not experienced a diode failure to properly shut down and block the reverse back flow after the forward current ceases flowing? I must admit that the first time I came across it, I'd discounted it as a point of failure, but sure enough, after replacing the diodes the problem was cured.
  3. Quite simply because it could well be a heat issue, they will get warm when charging as they will be passing a fair amount of amps and that could be breaking down the internal junction. When you disconnect the power cable, you're breaking the connection just long enough for that slight leakage path to clear itself down and then reconnecting the power again, the leakage has gone due to the faulty connection inside the diode(s). You could always test this out if at the end of the day after you have finished with the car, remove that cable from the strip fuse and leave it off until the morning or next time you want to use the car. See what the battery voltage is and see what the quiescent current is reading. It should be still around the 40mA as this will be current draw for the various ECU's the car has. If on the other hand the current has increased, then the alternator is not the issue. Don't forget to reconnect the alternator lead before using the car.
  4. Some people have advocated the use of fire suppression blankets when dealing with an EV fire, I was not so sure that the many online videos actually showed the battery as being in thermal runaway. It now seems that I may have been right and the blankets could well be better used to cover adjacent vehicles to prevent them being involved in the fire. These blankets used on EV's in thermal runaway actually increases the risks to firefighters apparently, as new test show. New guidance is being issued on their use.
  5. It is not unknown for a diode to go rogue, its rare but is possible. This link will explain just how the alternator operates and it contains 6 large power diodes and judging from what appears to be happening and the wire that you are disconnecting is the main heavy wire from the alternator to the battery. If any of those 6 diodes has a slight leak, it could allow a small current to flow the reverse way through the alternator to ground. How long ago was that alternator supplied and fitted? I'd be inclined to try and source another one just to swap it out on a temporary basis and see if it cures the problem, if it does, and I suspect it will, then complain to the supplier about your current one. Some notes about three-phase rectification
  6. I did think about a Kodiaq myself when I was looking for my replacement, but stuck with another superb because of the rear legroom was less, I stayed with the Superb.
  7. Good point about the hydrogen, I have seen a few batteries explode due to the spark igniting the hydrogen.
  8. Just a thought on this, but when the battery and alternator was first replaced, was the system re-coded to reflect that both had been swapped, and also could all of this problem been caused by either jumping, or charging the battery incorrectly, by directly connecting to the battery terminals, when the -ve lead should really be connected to the earth point adjacent to the battery or indeed anywhere on the engine/body so the battery monitoring module is aware of the charging?
  9. And he looks highly likely to go for a Gen 2 Taycan to continue down that path...
  10. Has France suddenly seen the light or what the hell is going on, and will they be the first to start winding the clock back. It would appear that French MP's have voted to withdraw all low emission zones. French MPs vote to scrap low-emission zones in blow to Macron - BBC News
  11. Anybody have any idea what is going at Porsche, it is alleged that all Porsche dealers have been told to withdraw used Taycans from sale with immediate effect, just found out about it from the McMaster. 12. No thats it, as long as you connect the +ve to the +ve on the battery, you’re good to go.
  13. Yes, don't clip the -ve terminal to the battery, clip on the earthing point in the engine bay, so that the battery condition module will be aware that the battery is being charged. If you attach it directly to the battery, the module will not be aware of the fact you charged it, and so could behave as if the battery is flat as the module would not have been aware of any current flowing into the battery.
  14. What about if you have no charger at home waiting for you? The anxiety would be my reaction, especially when I was working as I could well be heading off out early the next day on a decent journey.
  15. That can also be like Russian roulette if the chargers will be free or even working I see from some of your posts.
  16. Not looking at anything in particular, just a figure of speech. Maybe it is an engineer thing, I don't know but as an electrical engineer, who knows? But as an electrical engineer we were always taught to double-check everything personally as electricity doesn't normally give you a second chance, so if someone tells you that the power is off etc, you should always verify it for yourself before proceeding. One occasion I failed to do that, and my apprentice told me that he had personally pulled the fuse I cut the cable only to see a blinding flash and my wire cutters were gone, jolly glad I had a decent pair with thick insulation on the handles. He had pulled the wrong fuse and ever since then I have always double-checked everything whenever possible and that includes Bloggers / Vloggers and also the main stream media as well to see if I can get some sort of verification.
  17. And also of course as time goes on, the amount of electrified in some way or other cars will increase, and the ICE cars will be in smaller numbers and unless they can find ways to both reduce the volatility of these high voltage batteries and also a superb and highly efficient way of quickly bringing any such fires under control, the level devastation is going to continue rising. Often it is only these Vloggers / Bloggers who are not completely as yet under control, who bring these types of event to our attention as the MSM seen to be gagged, especially in China.
  18. Other makes of EV are also available, thats also a speculation problem is it not that many people think that EV must mean Tesla. A bit like all vacuum cleaners suddenly became known as Hoovers?
  19. This kind of anxiety is just pure madness.
  20. Also this video came out today, although there is nothing concrete known about the car at the centre of it, at the moment.
  21. Can't see why there should be any real difference personally, I must admit however when I looked at the videos I was wondering the same, but when you think about it, all your doing is freeing up any stuck oil rings, and the carbon deposits will be there regardless of the type of fuel and the glow plug is located in the combustion chamber, just like the spark plug is, so what is the difference?
  22. Much the same as mine, this is the second year of owning mine and the loss of oil is a fresh thing with it, and I'm hoping that is a relatively easy fix, like a new turbo etc, something that can be done in a day.
  23. I have checked on the oils you listed, and it seems that they are all synthetic, and it will smoke if it gets enough of it into the combustion chamber, which however if it gets enough oil in there, could potentially lead to a runaway engine and self-destruction. Did you get your car new or 2nd hand, as information I have discovered suggests that if an engine had previously been using mineral oils, and then someone decides to use synthetics, because the synthetics actually clean away carbon and varnish deposits that normal oil leave behind, it will cause increased consumption as the new oil will access areas where it previously couldn't. It will however, still make smoke if enough is being burnt at a time it seems, I'll continue to search for answers. Why Smoke is Emitted After an Oil Change
  24. So that kinda suggests that either the DPF is still present and preventing any smoke from exiting it, or that oil is being burnt without any tell-tale smoke. Are you using proper oil or synthetic?
