He surely can't get away with that can he?

the truth about electric cars
Oh, all the chargers are in the City and some distance from the A12, and not to many of those either.

the truth about electric cars
Gridserve Braintree is only about 8 miles from me, there is a Tesla location on Chelmsford just a few hundred metres from the A12, can you use those?

the truth about electric cars
So it seems that the bloggers who have said that in the past, are / were correct after all then. Electric at the moment is not what many claim it to be. You do need in some areas to plan your routes carefully, and need to allow for problems at some locations, so backups are also needed to be allowed for.

Still plenty of room for much improvement then, imagine if the majority of cars were electric, it would be a cake and ar*e party.

the truth about electric cars
Those reporting based on news from others is fine as long their sources are correct. Then there are those like "let's go friends" who guild things a bit but there is always a grain of truth in there, you just have to ignore the "click" and read between the lines.

the truth about electric cars
Equally there are those loggers etc who are paid to spout certain narratives but in their own unique fashions and there also good ones who do, like it or not, tell it like it is and also name and shame.
-
the truth about electric cars
That is part of the problem, news medias journalists are following official lines / narratives most of the time, bloggers and loggers are free to their own thing, others are paid to say certain things.

the truth about electric cars
Only really on paper, used to see plenty of cars in compounds all across the country before, but they never had number plates on them, they were just stock piled awaiting buyers, these days they have their number plates fixed ready and have been PDI'd ready to be driven away. Yes they did sell some cars back to the dealers etc, but they were all used as demonstrators and courtesy cars, these today are all stored in security compounds and not moved.

the truth about electric cars
Only because of the December pre-registering?

Car Park Fires, Transporters / Ships, any fires, any EV,s involved or not thread, were they the cause just there and so made fighting the fire harder.
Just stumbled on this video and this does look encouraging, early days still yet though, but it seems to be a step in the right direction. I notice at the end of the video that the car is sitting in a water tank, something that is not going to be readily available at a fire location normally, nor will a crane with which to lift the smouldering wreck and drop into the tank.

the truth about electric cars
I honestly would not entertain running a 13A plug and socket at anything higher than 13A. Your brothers' setup could be getting a bit warm running 10A, not because it is running at full capacity but for a multitude of reasons, it could an old 13A plug top with slightly oxidised pins, could be a substandard plug, does the plug feel like it has any heft to it? There was a time when a lot of prewired leads were coming into the UK where the plug pins, unlike a reputable brand, i.e., MK or Crabtree or Ashley & Rock would be using decent grade solid brass pins, these imported ones were having hollow pins, so the pins would get warm because there was not enough metal there to carry the current, or if they got dropped, the pins were actually being bent very slightly bent after the impact, resulting in a poor mating surface between the plug pins and socket tubes that the plug is pushed into mar slightly out of its tolerance limits and hence why 10-amps makes it slightly warm.

Well, I doubt that they will refund the unused portion of the existing VED when you do that, so at least they are getting that amount of income for nothing.

the truth about electric cars
What it needs is for a big push to come from generating companies and government to have panels installed on all houses etc that are suitable for them. I live in a HA house and have panels installed on my roof at no cost to me. This was done with an arrangement with the HA who agreed to offer the roof space FOC to a company who fit solar panels so that any tenant who wanted to have them could do at zero cost. The tenant is free to as much of the power generated FOC and any unused the company would sell back to the grid. I have had them installed now for something like 9 years. I think if the generating Co's and the Government got their heads together, that between them, they could fund such schemes and the power Co's could simply collect any unused power to feed it directly into the grid and in turn release the enormous amount of land lost to solar farms, back into farming land so the that the farmers could produce more food here in the UK to reduce the amount we have to import. The problem with that is that it takes joined up thinking and that is something that we have, over the years, demonstrated that we seem incapable of doing. I would have thought that the cost of doing such would be far less than the cost of building a new power station.

Well I don't intend on getting an EV just yet, but who actually knows what the future holds for any of us, only a fool says never.
-
the truth about electric cars
This slow drop in demand is mainly down to the increase of LED lighting, new LCD TVs and having more stuff produced in China along with the growing use of things like microwaves and air fryers but that decline is going to reverse as more and more of us will end up in EV.

the truth about electric cars
If you ask me, its about time they started to question things a bit more instead of blindly going along with whatever government told them to, I mean, its a well known fact that governments flip flop all the time.

the truth about electric cars
That is what I thought, so my car was a bog-standard base L&K model, so has stood around somewhere waiting for a buyer.

the truth about electric cars
@Ootohere Don't forget that my current car was not ordered new by me, as the last car I did that with was written off for me. I obtained my current car as a used vehicle in June 2023.

the truth about electric cars
I just ran a check on the car on a database that claims my car is 8yrs 0mths which can't be correct says that it was made in Jan 2017, so that is wrong for a kick-off. The V5C states the car was registered 9th Dec 2016 and the 10th digit of the VIN shows it as being the 2017 model, which ties in with what I know about it.

the truth about electric cars
To circumvent that, when I was ordering my new company cars, I would always go for factory fitted options which would result in a 3 to 4 month waiting time for the build to be scheduled in and the car to be shipped and PDI'd and delivered, I had zero interest in getting an almost instant delivery of a car that had sat in field for many months getting dirty, attracting corrosion and the brake fluid etc absorbing moisture.

the truth about electric cars
Well, considering the massive reductions cars have supposed to have made at that time from say the 1960s - 1970s that statement well have been true. I have been saying that I can recall all the smogs and the massive thick fogs that we used to have, especially in London where on some days it is impossible more than 2 or 3 buses away, and in those days the length of the Routemaster bus was just 27ft 6" or 8.3m, so round about 100ft visibility so that meant crawling around at low speed. I spent many a day delivering to BHS stores in London in those conditions.

A point with buying one of those pre-registered cars is that although, you are essentially buying a brand-new car, you are also buying a car that is very likely to be out of date in respect of the latest model could well have extra features added in and maybe even had a face lift which will date your car quicker. Thats all fine if those things don't matter to you, and you are planning on keeping the car for a long period.

The real problem here is of course, the usual suspects always insisting that their version of events is the only valid version in town and always having to have the very last word in every discussion.
