  1. cant seem to find the paint code for the silver mk1 vrs (scuffed bumper on very steep road) any ideas anyone?
  2. just tried this weekend to do it. couldnt get the top nut off the wishbone, only thing I could get on it was a 18mm spanner because theres no room above for a ratchet but couldnt get it to budge :/ also stupidly unscrewed the bolt on the track rod end (the one you cant re tighten because its on a rotating ball joint) to get the wishbone out and now cant retighten so cars now rendered useless. going to get one of those tie rod pullers if anywere has them in stock tomorrow.
  3. ok thanks (: ty to everyone that contributed, have been a massive help <3
  4. do the ball joints tend to wear out at a similar time to the wishbones? car has done 112,000. 05 plate dont have one of those ball joint removal tools either :( just have http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_862463_langId_-1_categoryId_255215 is there any more tools I need to acquire to complete this job?
  5. Was just going to do the arms unless this is a bad idea.
  6. <3 the 25% discount on eurocarparts for being a member of the forum ordering the Lemforder ones tonight. Is this a relativity straight forward process now that im not fiddling around with bushes? a rought time scale per arm would be helpful too (factor in that im a novice DIY mechanic :p)
  7. thanks for this Volvomeg, would be pretty annoyed if the same happened to me after the hassle of fitting the buggers :( prices ranging from £34.75 (OCAP) to £57 (lemforder) per arm on eurocarparts. Is there a wide spectrum in regards to quality or are they all the same thing? Ideally I like long lasting components.
  8. Hi all, Need to replace my bushes as stated in my service "BOTH FRONT LOWER REAR ARM BUSHES SEPARATED FROM BONDING" I have purchased new bushes off eurocarparts.com and asked my local garage to fit them but they said 'we don't do that, we replace the whole arm at £80 a side'. Is he having me on? I have been on RobClubley's fantastic site and have seen his changing rear axle bushes guide which has no mention of replacing the arms. Any clarification on this topic would be very helpful. Thanks, Ben
  9. price for: -plastic battery box -parcel shelf -passenger side front door -passenger side rear door -plastic trim panel next to dip stick thanks Ben thanks, Ben
  10. interested in -Bonnet -Grill -Airbox -parcel shelf -plastic engine cover/dressing live near by so I can pickup, inbox for prices please. thanks, Ben
  11. My audio is completely standard however I feel the quality of the OEM speakers are poor. Im not an ICE enthusiast, just want good quality sound however £160 is alot for two door speakers. I have a JA790 4 channel 1200 watts amplifier from my previous car which was used to power 6x9's in the parcel shelf but it looked abit thuggish and police were more inclined to do a stop check which I have experienced in the past so want everything hidden from sight I have recently replaced a door aswel and no there is a clear vibration/rattling coming from said door, I'm assuming its because I had to rip the foam layer on the inside of the door. Will aftermarket speakers rectify this or do I need to somehow re-insulate the door?
  12. Could anyone suggest good quality front door speakers that are a direct replacement for the standard ones please? I understand the doors are quite shallow compared to other cars so its hard to get a direct swap thus looking for aftermarket upgrades with the same dimensions. thanks, Ben
  13. standard airbox/air filter price? bonnet price? grill price? able to collect thanks, Ben
  14. I want to replace my front door due to a dent and would like to fit it myself. I would like to know if it is a difficult task. Can I just replace the interior door card then simply bolt the new door on or will it no longer lock the door? Also if I just got the skin (no other parts) is it hard to fit the glass/regulator etc Thanks
  15. Just replaced both rear bump stops without too much hassle, 1h 30m for a novice so quite a quick and easy task. Many thanks to those who helped! (: Just had timing belt done however and its now a tooth out and misfiring so ringing garage up Monday morning and getting them to trailer it back to the garage to have it sorted :/ just hope it hasn't damaged the internals :'(
  16. Going to buy Bumpstops Rear (not 4x4)->VRS (105mm). Part No: 100512001 http://www.vwspares.co.uk/octaviasuspension_rear.php Just going to contact vwspares first with my chassis number as confirmation of correct part chosen. Ben
  17. Sounds like the best place to start then thanks Raf. Halfords have what seems like a nice little set of tools to get me started and half price atm (link below) unless anyone else knows any better. http://www.halfords....tegoryId_255215 Is this enough or do I need specialized tools for work on the suspension? Found this over at pistonheads, guess it rules out buying a haynes lol >_<
  18. Will do when I have a spare weekend. spend allot of my weekends with the army so busy quite alot of the time. thanks for the invite (:
  19. thanks for the link Oet, there are two options to choose from in relation to age: 1997-2004 and 2004-2009. Mine is an 05 plate mkI however I am under the impression 2005-2009 relates the the mkII so I should choose the 1997-2004 perhaps? thanks, Ben
  20. Hi all, first post here on briskoda after purchasing a 2005 mk1 octy vrs. I have just had it serviced (110,000) and there seems to be alot of minor problems and I would like to fix them all myself however I am a complete novice. 'N/S/F back plate corroded and damaged': I understand this is some sort of cover that stops stones etc getting into the brakes? cant seem to find a replacement on the web however. 'Steering gaitor clip adrift - O/S/F outer steering gaitor clip missing' have had a google but nothing comes up :/ have no idea what it is 'N/S/R shocker bump stop deteriorated': replace shocker bump stop I assume? 'OS/R bump stop and cover adrift': Think I found the correct part here however am unsure if powerflex is a good brand http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-Octavia-1U-96-04-Powerflex-Rear-Bump-Stop-Kit-BS2006K-/370694935739?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item564f23d4bb&_uhb=1 'both front lower rear arm bushes separated from bonding': found OEM part but have seen people on the forum saying superpro bushes are the way to go. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140707891331?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Any help on how to get the parts required would be extremely helpful also the level of complexity of replacing each part as I am a novice and have never touched a car. Many thanks, Ben
