Servicing

Featured Replies

My octavia is on variable servicing, it has done 11,000miles and Ive had it just about 1 year. I have recieved a letter for the skoda dealer offering to service the car, should I take it in now or wait for the car to tell me?

Wait.

or take it now and switch to fixed...

or have an extra service... you can never have too many!

I got a letter last week, spoke to dealer who said ignore it. They ran a mailshot of cars that had not been in for 12 months, and sent the letter to everyone including those on variable who didnt need it.

What's the standard setting? I have no idea if my new vRS is on variable or not. Do you have to specifically have it turned on?

Is it a good idea?

Standard setting is variable. Look at the front of the service book on the sticker, you'll see the code QG1 . Some dealers switch to fixed though before delivery, only sure way to know is speak to the dealer who supplied the car.

....and some dealers mark your service book to say your on standard but you're still really on variable. ;)

Only way to be sure is to get the dealer check your car using their 1552 tool.....hmm...wonder whether VAGCOM can do this?

Whats the mileage / time limit for variable Is it 2 years / 20k miles max

The Ross-Tech site has the settings for VWs and Audis so it should be possible to make sense of the Skoda settings - ie to read them. The procedure for (US) VWs is here. Perhaps a friendly UK Skoda dealer could post up the relevant codes for us..............

According to customer services QG1 is 24months or 19K miles.

I had a simular Q recently and rang the dealer that originally supplied the car as they wrote the next service would be 10k miles, they told me i could bring it in at 10k or leave it till 24months / 19k...
