VRs brake upgrades...a question

Featured Replies

When you upgrade the brakes on a Vrs, what size discs come off (the standard ones) as I am looking to upgrade my 1.9tdi ambiente brakes ....any ideas ?

See Sibarts post - he has a complete vRS setup for sale!

The standards are 288mm I think :)

Are the std vRS brakes not 312mm?

The 1.9 TDi will have FSIII type brakes wont it??

Means you have to swap the hubs and bearings over to get a bigger disc on there.

If thats the case then I may have to go for some better brakes pads......had a nasty experience of virtually no braking last night ......and didn't like it that much........pedal on the floor and even the abs didn't work :mad:

Problem is the ABS wont work if your brakes dont lock a wheel..lol.

Yes, they are. :)

That was the problem....it didn't get anywhere close to locking a wheel and I was pressing as hard as I could..........had about the same effect as throwing a blanket out the boot with a rope on.

Pretty certain the brakes are fading VERY quickly so a new set of "better" pads may be the answer

Sounds like brake fade to me, can be down right scary.

Just added to my post above...But brake fade is a good guess ........so without spending £100s on a brakes upgrade any pointers on a reasonable set of brake pads for now.

TIA

Something like Pagid, Ferrodo, mintex i'd say.

Stay away from EBC in my personal view.

Just had a thought and went and checked the pad thickness ......loads left on them so I may have to have a search around for a supplier ...(we don't have a decent tuner/supply shop) around here.

Thanks Ross

Have you checked your brake-fluid?It needs to be changed every two years.

Goes in for a service in a couple of weeks time so they should do it then ....... pedal didn't just drop to the floor just felt like someone had changed them for non stick teflon pads

Just had a search .......on google for ferodo ds2500 pads .......hundreds of links to ........yes you guessed it ...Briskoda............but so far I can't find anywhere that want's to sell me any.....

Any ideas....JKM are shut today ......

whats the upgrade route for vRS brakes then? think im going to try some better pads first but i can get the standard pads to fade far to easily, which isn't nice when your flying towards a corner and the only thing slowing you down is engine braking

I bought my Ferodo DS2500s from Demon Tweeks Motorsport, Motorcycle, Modifying, Parts and Accessories and if you haven't read it already these is bags of info on the subject in this thread;- http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-ii/312mm-brake-upgrade/106188/

The Mk5 R32 brakes are very good and actually very cheap now. Last time I checked gen discs very £76 each.

Still can't find anywhere that will supply DS2500 pads for a lowly 1.9tdi Amdiente

Sex!

Gotta love covert silver mk2's :D:D:D

They're not really that much better than original brakes. They too have single-piston calipers. The best solution would be to invest in a set of brembos or some other quality after-market brakes.

and how much would we be looking for a decent set of brembos?

At least twice as much as the R32's,unfortunately.You know what they say;'You get what you pay for'.

hmm, if I upgraded to R32 brakes on the front would i be able to get some diffrent caliper carriers and put my exisiting vRS brakes on the rear and get a double whammy upgrade?
