Variable Service **** up

Featured Replies

My octavia vRS TFSI has just done over 10k and as i've read on here, some people are having to take them in as early as 10k with variable servicing, so pressed the trip computer reset and turned the ignition and it came up with service now

thought that was odd as my maxidot hadnt told me x amount of miles to service and there is still no spanner on the dash when i turn the ignition on

so contacted my skoda dealer and they told me to bring it in for a look on VAS, i asked if saturday morning would be okay and they said that would be fine, just phone up and check before

phoned up yesterday morning, Skoda (Hayseldens Doncaster),

"the reason you car is doing what it is doing is because you've turned the trip computer reset and put the car onto fixed service intervals"

to which i replied, "im well aware of that procedure and i can assure you i have not done it, the previous owner may have but i certainly haven't and anyway, even if that was the case, why hasn't the car told me x amount of miles till service or put the spanner up on the dash pod as i've approached 10k?"

"oh we think you've corrupted the data in the dash pod in doing so, it'll be £10 to have it put on the computer"

at which point i went on to my warranty issues and was informed they were to busy today to see me

now i know perfectly well i haven't put the car onto fixed servicing and when I bought the car i specifically asked if the car was on fixed or variable servicing to which i was told variable, so if that is the case they've either miss sold me the car or there is a fault with it which should be a warranty, if the dash pod has corrupted itself theres a fault with the car.

eitherway i dont think i should be paying £10, i know it isnt much, its just the principal of the matter, that and i feel like im being fobbed off!

Its very easy to do it, all you need to do it hold the button down a bit to long and it will reset it.

I think you maybe trying to get the service display incorectly.

On my maxidot, if I do as you describe my car also displays service now. However, if you turn the ignition on and not start the engine, then press and hold the trip reset button mine displays the true information.

You're doing it wrong way. There have been many posts on this forum with people complaining about same issue and they were all (including me) doing it wrong. You said you press reset button and then turn ignition on. That's the wrong way.

Get into the car, close all doors, put the seatbelt on, turn the ignition on (do not start the engine) AND THEN press and hold reset trip button.

I forgot about the seatbelt, if you dont fasten it all you get is "please fasten your seatbelt"

hahaha it works :D thank you, 2900 miles till the next service, im an idiot lol

Easy way to check is at the END of a journey.

Having parked, turn the engine off, just one notch on the ignition key (not two) and then press and hold the trip reset.

The mileage goes to 0.00 (don't worry) and then a second or two later, the miles/days to next service appears. Release the trip button.

I check mine about once a week, to see how things are going!

Serviced my car about a month ago. Reset variable service interval with VAGCOM. Checked the next service figures on the dash today and days is as expected ~700, but miles is 1700! Not 17000. That's surely dodgy?

1700 miles to do does not sound right. However; why "Reset variable with VAGCOM"? Were you on fixed before? If you wanted to change to Variable, why did your dealer not do it?

It's serviced by an independant.

Now fixed with VAG-COM. It was actually reset by one of these

and it seems to have set chan 43 to 31 and chan 42 to 9. The multiplyer on the Octy 2 is x100 so they were miles out. I bet it's x1000 for a VW / Audi or something. I set 43 to 186 and 42 to 93 and the readout on the dash is 17100 miles to go now. Yay vag-com.

Hi, to all

I've just serviced my Octy after 28000Km (17Kmiles) and my maxidot was reseted. But now it indicates "----" km and "----" days to next service instead before the reset it worked corretly.

Someone knows why? Is the reset done correctly?

Thanks

The car takes 250 - 500 miles to learn relearn your driving pattern and be able to predict when the next service will be due.

Give it a couple of days and then check.

Many Thanks for info. I wait and I will update you.

Bye

Hey ,

You was in right. After about 500Km the service counter is started again.

Bye
