Recaro Monza Child seat

Featured Replies

Hi,

Could do with some info if anyone has the above seat and a Fabia VRS.

Looking to buy my son a new car seat as he is outgrowing his Britax Eclipse one. I am looking at purchasing the Recaro Monza child seat. This seat is available in ISOFIX, which is classed as seatfix, and standard fit versions.

My Fab has the ISOFIX mountings but what i would like to know is does anyone have the ISOFIX version of the Recaro Monza seat and if so how well does it fit?

Another question is can an ISOFIX seat be used in a car which doesnt have the ISOFIX mountings. I understand that it would only be secured by the seatbelt but would the ISOFIX system intrude in anyway.

I would like to hear your opinion of the seat if you have either of the two versions.

Thanking you in advance.

Colin

Iso fix is Iso fix so it will fit fine. Iso fix is also the Daddy for car seats, it's easy quick and so much more stable. This seat doesn't come in Isofix format, you have to buy a base which will set you back a further £80 odd, which to me is pointless. It also did poorly in the Which tests.

There is a better solution. This is what we have and it's identical to the Skoda one. It fits in Iso cars and on a regular belt.

I have the Britax one, faultless, not bad to get the cover off to wash either :)

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. The Britax seat that you mention is up to 4 years, i need the next group, basically a group 2/3 car seat. The Recaro Monza is available as ISOFIX Recaro Monza Seatfix Car Seat Group 2/3 - From 15 kg (3½ years), Isofix Car Seats according to the site it has built in arms. This is why i am not sure if they will protrude should it have to be fitted into a car which doesnt have ISOFIX. It also comes in black and silver which would match the Fabs interior.

I think the seat your are refering to that didnt get a good write up by Which was the Recaro START. I cannot find a review by Which magazine for the Monza but then again i am not a subscriber to which. If anyone is and there is a review i would be grateful if you could let me know how it performed.

Thanks for your help.

Well, I have been outsearched! I couldn't find a Monza Isofix so top score!

Usually if there are two versions then it means it's either Iso or not meaning an Iso seat won't fit into a normal seat. The Britax has retractable arms and fits both. Not sure about this one, I would want to see it before I bought. It also looks like it uses the car's belt to secure the child which is why it does poorly on the write ups.

Hi Decron,

Wasnt trying to be smart with the link. I do most of my buying of stuff on line but like you say, when it comes to car seats, i want to see before i buy. Unfortunately for me trying to source this locally from a shop which has one available to view is almost impossible. The shops quote me a delivery of about a month which to me is not acceptale. I want to give my money to local shops but they fall way short on service i feel.

My ex-partner drives a R-Reg Fiesta which obvoiusly doesnt have ISOFIX so that was the reason for my asking about transfering an ISOFIX seat into a non ISOFIX enabled car.

She has a Britax Evolva Ultra so i might just get one of them.

Any more views from anyone would be apprecited.

I've done a little research into this as my daughter is out growing her Britax Duo Isofix. She will be 3 in 3 or 4 weeks but she'e a tall girl.

Most of the seats in the next age group up are not in fact Isofix but are called something similar like Isofit or whatever the different manufacturers name them.

I think I will be going for the Britax Evolva 123 I think it's called as said it's an Isofit not Isofix. It still uses the Isofix points but uses the car's seat belt to restrain the child. The Isofix is only keeping the seat secure not the child.

My mum has a 98 S plate Honda Civic which doesn't have Isofix but my Nephew has just gone upto the Britax Hi-Liner think that's what it's called but he seems very happy in it and seems secure enough, cheap at around £40.

I'd be tempted to get an Isofix seat and a non-isofix seat, better to get the best seat for each scenario rather one that will do but isn't great in either.

I had a look at the Recaro seats at the Baby Show in Glasgow last year and to be honest the quality and finish wasn't anywhere near the Britax. They had loads of features but they felt they might break after little use. Use the Britax Fitfinder then buy on-line from somewhere like Kiddicare.com delivery if 1st class and they are very competetive on price.

HTH.

Hi,

The term ISOFIX appears to be an industry standard term but them manufacturers have their own interpretation on it.

ISOFIX car seats relate to the way in which the seat is mounted to the car. It is secured directlty to the car. You still use the seat belt to restrain the child. Its like If you use an ISOFIX seat the seat is secured to the car and the belt holds the child in. If you use a non ISOFIX seat the belt holds the child and the seat in.

With regards to the Evolva 123 that you mention i must admit i can recommend this as this is what my ex has, although not the ISOFIX version. She bought it for my son but by the time she got around to fitting it he was to big for the internal harness so it had to come out. I would recommend getting the ULTRA version as this has larger side protection cushions.

Thanks for your input on the Recaros.

Have you seent the Recaro Young Sport. I have been to look at these, they are 9months to 11 years (1,2,3) Come in many colours and I am very impressed. I will soon be buying two of these.

I didnt look at that because i dont need the integral harness now so that would have to come out straight away. Looks a good padded seat though.

Hi all,

Just an update,

I finally purchased the Recaro Monza Seatfix Seat for my ever growing son. I am very impressed with the quality and my son loves it. As a bonus his mum really likes it too!!!!!(Theres a first for everything)

To clarify if anyone else is looking at buying this seat. The Seatfix is Recaros term for ISOFIX. The ISOFIX fittings (arms) are located in the seat base and can come out and retract back into the base. This means that if for instance you had two cars, one with ISOFIX and one without this seat could be used in both.

The child is restrained by the three point seat belt as with other booster seats.

Oh and another bonus if you have a Fabia VRS with cloth trim get the Microfibre Black and Silver version. It complements the Fabs interior.

Hope this info helps anyone considering this seat.

Regards

We had an Isofix Stage 0+ (rear-facing) child seat, but have opted to not bother with Isofix for the Stage 1-3 seats we now have (Recaro Young Sport in mine, Britax Evolva 123 in SWMBO's), because you can't take the child out of the car in the seat, so the issues about fitting the rear-facing seat with child therein were no longer relevant...
