LPG on my 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi all

Currently looking into the conversion thing and it becomes apparent that the quality of the installation/conversion job is key.

So how do you get to find the right man for the Job? Yes they are all accredited but that still doesn't mean they are doing the right Job.

Many thanks

for those of you running the 1.8T engine with 180 BHP standard output; what plugs are you using? I have been told that the NGK Iridiums will outperform the OEMs. In fact the OEMs do not like the gas fuel.

It is also important to alternate 1 tank of unleaded for every 5 lpg. Anybody got any comments on this?

I've got the 4x4 at 150(for now) and only recently having small blip on first cold changeover, this is no doubt down to a plug or coilpack. lpg will always find a weakness that petrol may not. not so sure about the 1 to 5 thing as I had a block in the tank that is supposed to avoid issues with the valves etc. as the car starts on petrol there is a good bit of fuel being used, not 1 to 5 but still uses petrol. On a previous LPG car I used to run a colder plug but that was on a Previa that normally had Platinum plugs.

as for the selection of a garage - recommendation, research, recommendation Always good to get feedback from people who have had conversions running for 12 months or more. I used a guy that stopped doing conversions because of the problems he used to have witht the systems. while looking for a garage to get mine done I went to him for a recommended installer and as he was happy with the newer kit he was doing them again. £1500 all in and goes really well.

I have a 4x4 1.8t running on a Prins VSI LPG sytem, the installer was recomended to me & I checked with past customers - even driving the conversions. All good feedback.

I took the plunge & had the conversion. Its been OK, but the guy has since stopped doing conversions.

The car runs fine - there is a small hesitation when changing over and there is a small difference in performance between petrol & lpg. The LPG is returning me around 24mpg, calculated from filling over a 3 month period.

When the conversion was first carried out I had issues with the coil packs and ended up changing the lot to R revisions. Since then no issues.

Get a flashlube kit fitted - very easy to fit.

thanks for clearing that up wrighty!

I simply remember you coming on in the hunt of a replacement engine, and jumped to conclusions... :p :o

my octy vrs is on gas .i would recomend to any one

Hi all , the polish STAG 300 kits are v good but its all down to how well it installed and mapped , ie any car can be tuned to run poorly by an quick fit fitter !

i ve run a 210 fwd , mild tuned 4x4 est and a very highly tuned 4x4 on stag kits and i bet any one who drives them could not tell whether its on LPG compared to petrol

Micheal at JS was v impressed when we had it on his rollers! and as its 110 octane it will give an extra 30 bhp over petrol

but use a flash lube kit for saftey, and get some one who cares about what hes doing to fit it

but if you do not keep your cars long ie approx 30 k miles you will not break even , but if you keep them long term or cover lots of miles or just want to be green or produce more BHP for less £ its the way forward

Heard from Jabba how impressed they are with it, would it work on a 350Z. That way I can pay for it before you buy it ;);).

I still miss the old Octy, trust your looking after it

tex me your e mail as ive change my ISP ,

i ve run out of time this year to delvelope it further, but got am LM2 o2 data logger on order to logg OBD2 running paramitors EGT CO2 , nox ETC so once i ve got used to it will looking into getting more lpg gas into it

and as i ve got a spare Nos kit and controller i may well do this mod next year

Her V8 running really nice on Gas and i can nt get her out of it !

but

would love to add the BK Estate to the stable too , but think i would be pushing it a bit to get away with that !!!

Does it hesatate on petrol ? if so car related vac com it / coil packs etc

but if not only on LPG

get the installer to check the mapping , Prins kits are v good , but the reducer gas pressure will settle and often needs reseting after 1 to 2 k miles , once they bed in , it may be slightly weak on pull away because of this = hesatation

Zeds in next week to get all the scrapes removed

Sounds like we need to organise a Brisky shiney car meet !!

If fitted with a timing advance unit, very well. LPG is far MORE resistant to pre-ignition than petrol, it has a octane rating of 103-107 so it's essentially like using racing fuel. VERY suitable for turbo cars, it's possible to go higher compression and boost than ever you could on petrol.

Also, there is the fact that the engine doesn't wear out and you virtually don't need to service the car.

LPG does not wash oil off the bores and does not contaminate and blacken the oil like petrol. Samples have been had of 40k oil oil, when run on LPG alone and it showed no sign of deteoriation. Similarly, no significant wear on the engine in 100k.

In a lot of ways it's a good fuel, ideally with liquid injection, but not many of those systems around due to the associated cooling and icing of the injectors issues.

Greg.

How would a remapped octi run on this out of curiousity, would it not pre ignite under compression

Yes, it's rubbish.

I spoke to the garage about the missing on initial change over and was advised to try "Bosch Super 4's" (developed for LPG?) Seeing as the plugs were due a change soon anyway I swapped them this morning, apart from the fact that 2 of the plugs were being held in by gravity they were all nice and clean(just like the picture in the haynes manual says they should be). all 4 tourqed in properly and car switches over fine again. :D
