Milltek results

Featured Replies

Having just fitted the whole system and got the rear silencer clamps changed, I can recommend the full Milltek. The performance delivery is much smoother right across the rev range (no more sudden turbo surge) and feels stronger at low revs as well as at the top end. Although I haven't had it rolling roaded, Tavia's car has the same mods and his curves showed the details of +30 lbf.ft at least and +25 bhp if I recall, as I hope he won't mind me quoting.

What I can say is it feels more like a 225 bhp S3 I drove recently and very rapidly achieves three figures. Sound is nice burble and more throaty rather than obtrusive and when cruising is as quiet as standard. I have not noticed any fuel consumption penalty yet but its early days. Of course you are more inclined to boot it.

Apologies if this repeats what others have already reported but wanted to state my satisfaction with a good product so far anyway.

Chris, does this include the 'sports cat' or a complete Cat bypass pipe? If it's the latter, how easy is it to swap between the cat bypass pipe and the cat (for, say, future MOT's)? Have the installers provided easily operable clamps at each connection (ie. end of the downpipe section and end of the rear silencer/box section)? Sorry about the questions, I know the bypass pipe will undoubtably liberate noticeable bhp/torque, but I'm a tad lazy and would want them to be easily interchangeable!

Regards,

Mark

Mark,

This includes the Sports CAT and downpipe from Milltek and they assured me it passes the MOT. Unless you have your own or easy access to a 4 poster and the tools I would have thought it was not worth having to swap it out and the expense of doing this every year is not far off having a Sports CAT in the first place. The two Milltek sections fit together well but if you only go for the back end there is an adaptor to mate with the front and vice versa and the old system still has to be cut in order to remove it.

Remember the Milltek system is 2.5 inch throughout rather than 2 inch with the standard. I wanted to have the same size throughout for best flow. The joints have to be done up really tight on any stainless system.

Is the CAT replacement a one off a reputable make and if so how much? I will say that Milltek is a quality product with a lifetime warranty and they provide good support.

To pass an emissions test you will need to turn the climate control "off". Tried it at a friendly MOT test station, failed with climate control "on", passed with it "off"

Has Milltek told you to do that or explained why that should be?

BTW How does yours fare against an S3?

This is a quote from the MOT Testers Handbook for the exhaust emission test for a car with a catalytic converter:

If, during the catalyst emission test, the engine cooling fan cuts in or out, this is not a problem and the test should continue as normal. All other vehicle accessories (eg headlamps, air conditioning, heaters) shall be turned off during the test.

The message here is to make sure that you switch the air conditioning off when submitting a car for its MOT, lest the tester fails to do so. And for those of us with Climatronic, where AUTO in the display indicates that the air conditioning is selected on, but where the air conditioning may also be on when the display is blank, it is even more necessary to check that it is off. The surest ways to do this are to select ECON or else reduce the blower speed until the system indicates OFF. thinks.gif

The MOT Testers Manual can be found via our web links and is also here.

Chris,

just for future reference; where did you get the Milltek system from (cat back and down pipe/sports cat)?

If it's not too rude to ask what was the cost of the individual parts?

I know from the AmD it cost around

I'm seriously considering the full Milltek for sometime in the future - either later in the year, or when the 2-year warranty has passed.

Price seems really good, and the performance increase too! Plus no MOT hassle.

Have read a couple of experiences on a Dutch Seat forum, and will contact the Dutch importer soon about prices (standard price incl. fitting now at EUR 1050) and warranty aspects, but would to share some of my remaining question marks with you.

1. Will it fit underneath a 4x4 or will it require any modifications?

2. Are there any 4x4 owners with the full Milltek system? (None of those in Holland, I'm afraid.)

3. Are there any backbox choices, as I would like to keep the current stealth look at the back - I don't particularly like the twin-pipe Jet design...

4. How much does Chris' remark on smoothening the turbo lag apply? I'm all for low-lev torque but I wouldn't want to completely lose the thump in the back.

5. What's the soundscape like? Chris and most Dutch Seat Milltek drivers say there is no noise increase whatsoever - which is what I am looking for - with only more of a burble when stationary - which is again what I am looking for!

6. What are the warranty issues in the UK? Same as with chipping? (The owner of the car would like to know...)

7. Chris - any more fuel consumption figures now?

8. On a sidenote - is the Hyperboost DV that Milltek also offer any good? Or is the Forge better? And should I even consider replacing the standard valve?

That's what you get for asking too many questions at once...

1. Will it fit underneath a 4x4 or will it require any modifications?

I think it will proberbly need some kind of mod because of the 4x4 drivetrain. And if you go for an RS one you will need to cut the rear bumper as the RS points straight out and the 4x4 kind of downwards.

Thanks, Manny. I was afraid of that...

Is there a 4x4 (or perhaps a Leon Cupra 4, with I suspect a similar underplate lay-out) around anywhere that has gone through a Milltek treatment?

Dave (ect) has a Supersprint backbox on his 4x4 hatch which looked very nice and his car was producing 232bhp on Saturday.

Very high quality and the fit was good as well - like the vRS hexagonal tailpipe but rounded off at the edges.

I have a rear photo of the cars there on Saturday but if you zoom in, you can't really make it out very well

Let's try the photo...

Thanks for posting that, Rob.

Not quite the ungainly sight of the big twin-pipe arrangement, I agree...

How about the noise a Supersprint backbox produces? Would Dave be able to give some comparative notes?

I would be going for the full exhaust replacement anyway, so downpipe, mid-section and backbone. In this respect, Supersprint is pricier than Milltek, in Holland at least. And less effective too, or so I've heard...
