Freaky alarm

Featured Replies

hi Folks !!!

Does anyone has faced the problem, that the octy's alarm goes on by itself, for no visible reason? I had my previous octy 1.6 MPI with the same problem, and now vRS - again the same. Also, I've noticed some octys in the city doing the same - honking for no reason. Is there any explanation? Maybe some alarm sensors are gone crazy (like motion sensors inside the car)?

Is there any chance to lock the car with no alarm on? I think my previous octy could be locked with the ignition key in driver's door with no alarm, but vRS switches the alarm on if you turn the key :(

many thanks

Yes, unfortunately the VAG family use cheap ultrasonic interior sensors instead of modern microwave sensors. As such, they are very sensitive to changes in temperature or small movements, e.g. insects. This is a big nuisance in winter if you have an interior heater. The sensitivity can be adjusted with VAG-COM.

There's a button on the inside of the B-pillar that can be used to disarm the interior sensor.

If you press the locking key twice on your remote, you will also disable the alarm. Unfortunately this also disables the deadlocks in the doors.

Mine is at the dealer right now for the same problem. Left it there yesterday and they've called me late afternoon and asked if car could stay there for one more day. I'll probably pick it up today and see if they say what has been done. I'll let you know.

My Octy is 17 months old and has been developing the alarm problem for over a year.

Picked up mine this afternoon. They said they have adjusted motion sensor and to see in comming days how it was. If problem comes back, they'll change motion sensor.

So, I'll see during one month.

Possible Broken Wire On Alarm Horn Wiring,if Wire Broke Back Up Battery In Horn Powers Alarm.also Make Sure Rad Fans Are Not Running After Engine Off For Few Minutes,if So The Connection On Fan Unit Corroded.

i found anything draining the battery sets it off too. a portable cigarette adapated heater to heat the car up on cold mornings use to set mine off.
