Polo Bluemotion performance upgrading?

Featured Replies

I can't remember where I heard/read the idea initially, but here it is for your delectation. All purely hypothetical.

1) Purchase Polo Bluemotion.

2) Stick proper wheels and tyres on.

3) Apply big turbo, remap and necessary ancillaries.

4) Pay no road tax but have quite quick car.

I'm not proposing to do this, but I was wondering if anyone thought it at all a realistic proposition? Imagine that the increased insurance costs aren't a factor, and that it's all just a big "up yours" to Gordon Brown. ;)

Would be awesome :)

I'm just wondering what one could realistically expect to get, performance-wise, out of such a monstrosity.

I like the idea :) I know the 1.4 tdi can be mapped to about 105 bhp ish... but with a bigger turbo? who knows.....

Considering each of the (3) cylinders is more-or-less the same size as the 4 in the 1.9, then 3/4 the most you could get out of a 1.9? So if certain Fabias are putting out in the region of 260 bhp, then presumably 195 ought to be achievable from the 1.4???

The bottom ends are not that strong on the 3 pot engines.

No-one makes a bigger turbo with the 3 cylinder exhaust manifold.

They chip to 90-100bhp realistically for a realiable car.

Perfomance wise, they are lighter than a standard polo to start with so i would imagine a chipped on would give a standard fabia vrs an run for its money. I know my 1.4 tdi running 100bhp would give them a good go,

Wouldnt you be better off junking the engine all together and putting something fun in?

But then you have to tell the DVLA and thus defeats the whole "no tax" idea..

Buy a lexus 400h and you're sorted for congestion charging & fairly nippy - you're still liable for tax though :(

Isn't this basically what Jason (devonutopia) has done? How much is his road tax next year? £35?

How many horses? 250+? That's less than 14p per horse in tax.

Beats the £1.67 I pay in tax next year for every last goddam horse under my bonnet

thats a greta idea. start your own eco tuning company called "up yours brown" tuning :D

Up your brown? Isn't that something entirely different?

I think it's a cracking idea, but sureley we should be starting with the Fabia Greenline:D

Audi A2 kind of acheived this for a few years but is just too pricey, even used

I would like to join you in a Big "Up Yours" To Gordon too!!!, a man who thinks a 1.6 hatchback like mine is unnaceptable:mad:

The thought crossed my mind as soon as I saw them released!

The hundred quid or so road tax will all be eaten up by the cost of your mods and extra insurance.

But it's already been said, that that's not the point :)

It is though , as you are "tricking" the government out of a hundred quid's worth of road tax and paying that much in VAT on tuning your car so they are just as well off

Brand loyalty says yes, but the Fabia isn't in the road-tax-free bracket.

And I am well aware that the financials probably don't make a lot of sense overall - it's more of a gesture. ;)

Also, come M.O.T. time, will it not fail it's M.O.T. for CO2 emissions? Are the M.O.T. emissions specs based on what the car is supposed to originally put out, or are they the same for all vehicles sold in the model year?

It's a diesel :)

Enough 1.4 TDi engines in crates out the back of our place with holes in the blocks as it is, without turning the wick up..lol.
