Favorit heater blower cooling down?

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Sorry to pester you all yet again these last two weeks. I have another problem and need some advice. My heater blower runs cold on full speed after the engine comes to temp, and luke warm on setting 1 and 2 and after I switch it off it warms back up again to hot? Is this a problem with the matrix? I'm really not sure, My Haynes book has no fault advice that I can see for this problem????

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Not too sure but my car wasn't blowing hot on full heat and heater power when I had the thermostat replaced after it overheated.

All is running OK now though.

My first thoughts on this sort of issue are pretty much always an airlock in the matrix, and/or sticking control valves.

I'd run the engine with coolant cap off (drape cloth over opening to prevent splashes) and massaging the coolant pipes until the fan cuts in and cuts out with heat setting on full (better to leave the heater fan off). Then maybe rev the engine a bit while in the car with fan on full to get the water spinning around and ensure the heat is there. Might also help get any air locks out if the front end is slightly higher.

I'll have a go with this thought first newman. Thank you.

I would say the matrix is blocked. the same happened in my old fav

So? Shall I try newmans solution?

Dunno. My old ZX required a refilling procedure that involved using a drinks bottle to make a header tank and get the water level above the heater matrix. Some cars, and I don't know if the Favorit is one or not, have bleed valves on the matrix. Some just plain don't need bleeding unles they've got non-standard hoses.

The heater matrix is self-bleeding I believe. So you will have to do the procedure to bleed the system when you change the heater matrix, so it's worth a try before shelling out around £40 on a new heater matrix, but luckily if you need to change it they're very accessible. I think as yours is LHD you simply have to remove the battery to gain access to remove it.

Mr Newman, I'm lucky here in CZ. The parts are half the price of UK. And if I can source used parts, they are pathetic prices. I'll give the idea you have suggested a go, and then assess the result. Thank you.
