Bluetooth pairing with original Columbus

Featured Replies

Hello list

Just received my L&K with RNS510/Columbus and the original BT set which includes a phone holder on the dash that needs an adapter to seat and connect to the phone. As I understand it after some googling, it is not possible to pair a BT phone unless you have some kind of adapter attached to the phone holder. My plan was to unmount the phone holder and just hide it behind the glove box as others have done successfully. Any suggestions?

Your dont need a holder to pair the phone. Several members on here have installed the oem bluetooth kit without a holder and succesfully paired phones. I am sure someone will be along shortly to explain how.

I seriously considered the kit from STU, very impressive howto and offer, but it was just about the same price, and more comfortable to get it installed from the factory, except that I have to hide the thingy on the dash behind the glove box somewhere if I do not want to start cutting cables (they are not allowed to sell handsfree here unless you mount that ugly thing on the dash). And that it won't pair unless I get some phone adapter or start fiddling with wag-com.

Arg. Why doesn't the instructions say that the ignition must be on for the bluetooth to be visible for pairing.

Solved.

Whell, I think it makes sense, so no need to write it down in manuals. If Bluetooth was on all the time it would run battery flat in one week.

so do you have teh new BlueConnect kit then or the OEM BT Kit as supplied by Stu that connects with the columbus?

Teh phone holder will be just for holding and any connecting wires for charging I expect.

I might have been a bit unclear; the Columbus was turned on with ignition off, and complained about not finding any phones, and the phone couldn't discover any candidates. The only difference was turning the ignition on, and it was suddenly visible for the phone..

This is the original factory mounted kit, and the holder has connections for a lot more than just charging. The phone is obviously not using BT when seated in a proper adapter.
