06 vrs : roof bars? halfords sale, recomended?

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting some roofbars and it was mentioned that halfords have a 50% offer on them at the moment (bank holiday probbaly).

So are the bars (thule i think) worth while or are there any other ones that people prefer?

I would prefer if the bars can be removed when not in use, and will be used for carrying my bike (with suitable bike mounts), so are bars universal for getting bike racks as well?

cheers

I would definitely recommend the Thule bars, they're worth every penny! I have Thule Aero (860) bars and the Thule ProRide cycle carrier. Its very easy to load and stays stable even at hign speeds. The bars can be removed/fitted in less than 10mins. I always remove mine when not in use reverting the car back to its standard apperance. Heres some pics.....

When I bought my Thule roof bars from the Skoda Dealer over a year ago they were the cheapest - and are official as they have 'Skoda' printed on the plastic covers :o - but the Thule bike rack from Skoda was way more expensive than the same one with Thule written on it available off online stores.

Another hint - buy the thule roof bar first then you can get the keys for this to match the lock on the bike rack (or racks if you want two).

I also have the Thule ProRide bike carriers and Thule Aero bars. Their quality is top notch and fit perfectly and easily. Like Alex said, the are rock solid.

I bought mine from Thule roof rack & cycle rack systems as they were loads cheaper than Halfords and they also make sure the locks on the bars and bike carriers matched. :)

that link above has them at 120 for the bars and 65 for the rack....is that about right?

on the picture there seems to be a gap in the plastic next to the front fog light is it supposed to be like this?

Yeah, seems about right. :)

The ProRide 591 carriers are slightly cheaper individually from Halfords at the moment which is very rare due to their 50% off offer. Although roofracks.co.uk do give discounts when purchasing more than one carrier.

The bars on the other hand are still more expensive from Halfords at around £155 (That's for the Aero bars). Also not sure if Halfords will match the keys for you either. :)
