DIY door mirror bodge

Featured Replies

Got my Fabia Comfort driver side mirror smashed by someone while I was out. Casing was all over road, and mirror is smashed towards outer end). Electrics still whirring but not moving much, and assume heating element will be fooked as well.

A quick glance through here tells me a proper fix is going to cost about £150-170 (ie/ sprayed and fitted) so am quite willing to bodge as will probably be driving it myself until it dies. I can get stick on mirrors from Ebay for about £5, so can anyone help me with the casings:

a) where to get them

B) will a DIY spray job look stupid (mine is standard non-metallic blue, but am willing to put up with black or similar inoffensive colours if they are supplied that way). I am not one of these people that soups up their Fabias - I am a proper normo with a good patience threshold, but quite a low 'can I be arsed' threshold (in terms of applying 18 coats of primer etc...)

c) do casing just clip on, are they easy to fit etc... is there anything I need to look for on my damaged mirror to ensure a new case can be fitted?

Can see through mirror OK at mo, but without casing it makes a horrible wind noise even at medium speed - not been on motorway yet.

Any help appreciated.

Could try scrap yards for the casings or you might be able to pick up the whole unit? If your doing it on the cheapo :rofl:

Got a quote of £125 all in for brand new one, fitted painted and inc VAT, which is not bad. Mind you - it's stil £125 on a mirror that might get smashed again.

Have cheacked a few scrap heaps and no luck - thought you might be able to get them on open market.
