Hi all,

I've been driving a VRS TDI for around couple of months, bynow. Now one feature I miss of my previous much humbler car (a Megane) is the possibility to control the radio unit without detaching hands from the steering wheel.

I hoped the lever which enables to switch between MFA (stream mp3 unit), phone, etc. options had a radio menu, but it has not.

Isn't it possible to remote control the stream?

TIA,

Stefano

VRStu knows all about this sort of stuff!

I believe that you can get a new steering wheel with the Multi Function stuff on it. I know what you mean though, I used to have a Megane and really missed the audio controls to start with. But i'm used to it now and it doesnt bother me at all. Plus I like the look of the vRS steering wheel and don[t like the other one.

You can swap to another steering wheel, either the Octavia 4 spoke or another from an A5 platform car such a Golf V or Leon.

I know what you mean. I have Octy with MF steering wheel, and company's Megane2 with side lever control. Trust me, solution for Megane is much better for me. Skoda MF steering wheel has controls that are more or less OK but Megane´s solution is much better. I know that, as I'm not driving much on motorway, but rather on curvy roads, so I have to use radio controls on Octy straight from HU and not steering wheel. many times it was like: "Where is volume control?" while I was rotating steering wheel or in the middle of the curve. On Megane, it's always in the same place, easy to use.

Now, friend of mine has a Roomster that has exactely the same kind of controls as Megane, just on the opposite side of steering wheel. Maybe that's the future for all Skoda models.

Thats the only thing I miss on the Octy. The Navara I was driving before the Octy had controls for Cruise, Phone and Audio on the wheel. Even had the voice activation for Phone and Navigation. I do miss that!!

BUT I dont like the normal Octy MF wheel and dont want a VW badge in my car neither (Am I right in thinking that you can fit a Golf wheel but cant chage the badge?)

Steve

that would be ace, golf gti multifunction steering wheel with a skoda logo :D

just looking at this

does any one reckon the skoda 3 spoke vRS airbag would fit it? if so would it be possible to get the wheel without the airbag and fit the skoda one?

Thank you all for sharing :)

Anyway, after some research on Stu's website, I don't recall I have an Audio option in my Maxidot, yet the car is unmodified, bynow :)

How is it possible? Is there a chance that the guys who installed the Skoda bluetooth, messed stream mp3 connections?

TIA,

Stefano

make sure you have got the radio or cd on and playing. on the stalk that control the maxidot, hold down the top button and keep it held till it takes you back to the main menu, under MFD there should be Audio

if not, there's something wrong

well i've had a look and to me it looks like the skoda airbag would fit, but it would be nice if some one else could confirm it?

and if your not a fan of the flat bottomed one DSC03313.jpg

Just a thought, but if you changed steering wheels would you have to notify your insurance company?

My company didn't seem bothered about what I did to the car, as long as it wasn't to improve "Acceleration and Top Speed". Worth getting anything that they say like that in writing though! Just in case.

im hoping that by time i change mine to a vrs they will have the DSG flappy paddles and a re-designed steering wheel with multi function controls... Ill keep dreaming!

I checked,

the Audio menu is there but allows you to do just nothing, it seems just visualizing the actual e.g. CD track.

I remember that with Columbus/trinax, somebody wrote that had volume/etc. under his fingers. Does Columbus enable richer Audio options through Maxidot?

Stefano

P.S.: Who is manufacturing the stream MP3 unit? Many years ago I bought a Sony car audio tuner and cassette!!!, and it already had a wire remote control unit!

yup thats all it does, i wish it was possible to flick through tracks with it
