Haven't even recieved the car yet but already not jazzed with customer service!

Blackspaven.......

Im sure, like others have said you would have had better luck re the boot liner thing before you had ordered the car. It is unfortunate that the dealer wont get one in for you to "look" at with a view to buying it. Remeber though that a Skoda dealer is just a franchise, not owned by Skoda Uk or CZ, so that any item ordered and returned will undoubtedly be either refused by Skoda UK or subject to a "restocking" charge. Not forggetting any shipping costs of course.

Regarding the gear lock thingy, as I mentioned and another poster mentioned type approval for the UK may be a sticky point but I remember a few years back (around 1995) I was looking at buying a Corsa (yeah, I know) and it had a retro fitted lock on the transmission tunnel that locked the gear leaver. This will be similar Im sure to what you were looking at. Im sure that they wernt expensive and it did look OEM and were insurance approved.

You make some valid points but as mentioned by others, maybe those points needed re-phrasing. I have been guilty of that in the past on this and other forums.

Hope you get some luck and enjoy the car when it arrives.

Steve

blackspaven,

Have you tried another dealer for the bootliner?

It is a pretty poor show from the dealer, and they obviously dont value your custom.

The grill is understandable. Wouldnt be covered by any warranty so they are perfectly right to get you to sign away any potential future warranty claim for this. Quality warranty for flaking paint would lie with the paintshop.

I’ve just figured out he was referring to his dog. Think I am having a senior moment, I thought he was a mental boxer……………sorry:(

Thanks for the reply tomo, that's a bit more constructive and what I was looking for. Yeah, I agree that i'd have been in a better position if i'd have bartered beforehand, but I was just gonna get a flat rubber liner from ebay a lot cheaper before I actually saw the waterproof one a little while after placing the order. And to be honest, I managed to get an L&K for £17,900 with every extra except the TPM and Columbus, so I don't even know if they'd have stretched that far: it's cutting the profit pretty close to the bone to keep asking for more and I was aware of that.

I understand that things can get misconstrued, but sarcasm doesn't put me in the best mood to respond, as i'm sure it doesn't with most people.

With the paint thing, I think I was just a bit p*ssed at the dealers attitude, or more to the point the attitude of the bodyshop they use. Not very professional at all! For example, today I asked about just getting a full leather onyx interior (not leather/alcantara) as I was told they didn't do it at time of sale, as well as two other minor things, like the split sunvisors which are shown at the skoda EU website. The salesman (NOT the guy who sold me the car: very nice chap) called me back and got a bit shirty with me, telling me that I need to stop looking at foreign websites. Didn't seem too apologetic when I managed to get a word in edgeways to tell him the reason for my main question was because SKODA UK'S WEBSITE shows that the L&K can be bought with THREE interior choices, not the two which is actually correct (UK website flaw I guess). Jumped up little f... mustn't use a rude word or i'll get banned, won't I Mr Moderator?!!

Very glad at the price i'm getting the car for, luckily, I actually live MILES away from that dealer and if I had to use anyone there except the guy that actually sold me the car, i'd be a little concerned. Not heard good things from there with regards aftersales service anyway unfortunately.

lol, you're always good value for money amanda! So now you understand me, do you think it'd be adequate for my mental boxer dog? The wife has a Leon with a shaped tray in it which has once stopped his barf fromming touching the boot floor, thank god, and he DOES like swimming and puddles, but he's just a bit of a brute, that's all.

The boot liner is really tough and only a dog that liked to chew stuff will get through it. I chucked soggy bikes and heavy technical gear onto mine and it never showed more than a slight mark. Very very tough and totally water repellent.

Cool, looks like I won't even need to see it then! See, THAT's the sort of answer I was looking for. If only the dealer could have inspired that sort of confidence!

Thanks again Amanda. And no, i'm not a boxer!

lol

Blackspaven, welcome. :wavey:

Curious about this gearstick locking mechanism that they won't let you order. Is it available in RHD? Curious as you say that someone at the factory has said 100% yes and now SUK say no due to an incompatability  Which is it?

Point 2: Why should they get it in? They aren't obliged to and if it is something which is going to just sit on the shelf if you don't want it? Oh and why have you paid for the car when you haven't taken delivery? Doesn't sound too bright.....

Point 3: They gave you a quote with a condition attached. As I understand it they've made you an offer, if you don't like it don't accept it. What were you expecting? Us all go down to the dealer and picket it? Couple of sensible suggestions have been made with regard to this.

And now a question; why come on here and throw your weight about? Are you the type of person who goes in to a pub and tries to pick fights?

You just wouldn’t let it lie:rolleyes:

There are some photos and descriptions of the boot liners available here:

Skoda Accessories

Note the disclaimer for the photographs.

The gear lever lock is not available for RHD, I am curious as to why you think that you need one. The Octavia has decent locks and also an electronic engine immobiliser. The only way to steal a modern car is with its' original keys, a new key won't start the engine until it has been programmed. From what I see of the gear lever lock it works off the same key anyway, so the additional security gain if you have your keys stolen will be nil.

With regard to the grille, bodyshops have precise estimating systems and they do standard jobs day in and day out. They are also constantly hammered on costs by the insurance companies, for your benefit of lower insurance premiums. You have asked for something that is non standard, that they have little experience of. They have quoted a reasonable cost and pointed out that they cannot warrant the non standard work. If it doesn't work out and looks a bit shabby after a while be prepared to pay to have it put back to standard.

Also showing a little courtesy and good manners takes no extra effort, costs nothing and you get a more positive response from people.

Blimey, who let the fireworks off? :D

Regarding the bootliners, I ordered one for my Hatch in October 06 and wasn't happy with it. Ordered it via Wings. They were happy to refund my money and leave it at that.

As far as I am aware, that is generally the way many retailers work.

Right, to end all this sh*te where the moderators are obviously closing ranks and getting precious...

1. Skoda CZ initially said that there was no reason why it wouldn't fit a RHD. I phoned SUK to chase a few things and asked why couldn't I have it as SCZ had said it would be fine. Phoned my contact at SCZ who said that SUK had been on the phone to them last week about someone, who he presumed was me, asking if it was possible and they asked SCZ if they could they look into it. SCZ went away and had a thorough look and discovered that one or two parts are incompatable (gearbox issue I think he said) so it definately would NOT fit RHD at present. My guy said that SUK have now asked how difficult it would be for SCZ to manufacture the parts to fit RHD so they can put it on a test car (presumably owned by someone at SUK so they won't get a load of strife if anything goes wrong), looking to possibly introduce it on models in time to come, I guess based on cost implications, ease of manufacture, marketablilty and all the other normal things. And that's as far as they've got so far.

(so postmanpat can bite me if he thinks that asking for something VERY, VERY simple to achieve is unlikely to happen, instead of taking the p*ss and suggesting something ridiculous 'Yeh rite course they are, next time can you suggest a 2.0 tfsi with DSG gearbox, and whilst your at it a fabia vRS with the same') I can't call someone a bad thing so i'll just stick with what, ridiculously as it is on here already, appears acceptable... :finger:.

2. Haven't paid for the car, just a deposit. Paying in full would be stupid. If SUK backed off a bit and gave the dealers some breathing space with regards to new car owners, knowing they may want extras with their new purchase such as liners, carpets, bike racks, etc., I don't see the issue with them getting stuff in just to look at: they can just send it back when they get other returns from faulty goods and the like so the cost issue isn't relevant and I can't see another argument. Other car companies do: are you saying that Skoda are a budget, del-boy company who can't physically operate like other marques do, or would you like them to be a more rounded, respected company who get glowing praise from customers becuase of the welcoming and encompassing attitude they would give forth?

3. Again, I was more p*ssed at the attitude of the dealer and the bodyshop. First of all they say you can't spray on chrome: I would have thought that if they actually a)cared or b)knew what they were doing, they wouldn't even bother saying this as if either was the case I shouldn't need to tell them you have to rub off the chrome to get a surface the paint will key to. That's basic surely?? If they don't want to do the job, then just say so, don't hide behind excuses; I can just go elsewhere which is what i'm gonna do as I have little faith in their ability... which was the point that some people have failed to get. I was trying to establish if others have had this slack attitude to their dealer bodyshop, but I guess I didn't word it correctly, so I apologise. However I don't think the amount of vitriol I received was justified: could have been said more eloquently.

In response to your last point. I'm new so you don't respect me; that's fine. You're new to me so you're not gonna automatically get my respect either! It has to be earnt both ways. I noticed that most of the people giving me **** are moderators (possibly sticking up for each other...big boys club, no girls allowed, hmm?)and the 'normal' people around have been giving me comments that are fairly beneficial and accordingly I have been responding to them more than adequately.

:P

Hopefully motr, i'll get the same thing happen with my dealer. My point is that, personally, I think SUK should give them a bit of leeway so it's not such a problem. Fair enough if you just wanted to ramdomly look at something for your battered '05 plate octy classic, but when buying a new car, it's a big investment for most people. If it wasn't, why would skoda spend so much money on advertising to get us to buy the d*mn things if our custom wasn't important. There has to be a line, but surely common sense would be that if you're buying a brand spanker, you'd get a bit more flexibility with aftersales care?

Totally agree and especially from the dealer you are buying from.

We’re not that kind of forum!!!!

If you think you have what you need on this topic, you can ask a Mod to close the thread. then you can make a fresh start in the comunity. I have had a few run-ins with the Mods over the years, but these things blow over (mainly because I am always right ;)) and life goes back to normal.

I think the long standing members get a bit hacked off by the number of people who join the forum and then immediately start to slag off the Dealers/Skodas/Forum rules etc. The place becomes more tolerant to that sort of thing once a Briskodian has established themself as a productive/friendly/amusing kind of member. This isn't a rule, or even an unwritten rule, but reflects the way of life and even though I no longer have a Skoda, it still hurts me a little when people come into the 'family' and have a bit of a pop at it's affiliates........if you see what i mean. Imagine you support a football team 'X' and some guy turns up in your local (you have never seen him before) to watch the match. he then starts slagging off some of your players (but he obviously supports your team 'X') you will naturally feel a bit annoyed at this newcomer throwing his weight around, even though he may well be correct in his thoughts.

Anyway enjoy the Forum and good luck with your car:thumbup:

Do I get to have a pop at anyone? :)

You can tackle SWMBO for me. She's about to have a pop at me ;)

That’s because you have been scaring the local wildlife!!!

just so you know the chrome took about four hours to sandblast and peel off when i did mine to get back to the plastic, quite expensive if your paying by the hour. Otherwise if youre talking about sanding and using acid etch primer then there would still be a risk the new paint could peel off if you got a stone chip and the elements got to it. thats what the dealers want to protect themselves against.
