Another day - another dawn! But all my emails between 19 Jan 2008 and 27 May 2008 have not reappeared in Outlook!

I've now found the ones I have left by doing a full search as suggested in an earlier post. My confusion was because no matter how I diplayed them, nothing ended in *pst. They match the ones being dispayed in the various Outlook folders

I had a theory around 3am this morning (!) and my suspicions are pointing to the new AVG v8. This was the update which was preventing me from printing web pages (see earlier thread). I removed AVG8 2 days ago and substituted Avast. Printing web pages is now possible.

It so happens that I'm sure I had AVG installed from mid January until I removed it 2 days ago. Is it a coincidence that all my emails from that time span have disappeared? In other words, has AVG removed all the emails it had scanned when the prog was removed? If so, how might I get them back?

If it's an AVG problem, no ideas.

Generally, set up the computer to show hidden and system files and folders, and show file extensions. Over-ride any claims that "this is insecure" or the like: If anything the reverse is true! Now run the search for "*.pst", covering all drives.

Mammoth search on back-up drives suggests the emails (800+) have gone for good. The few remaining are before AVG was installed and those left are the ones received/sent after AVG was uninstalled. Nothing remains when AVG was present. What a coincidence!

Someone has kindly PMd me details of a prog which backs up the entire C drive (including emails) so better late than never!

If anyone has any other theories, then I'll be glad to hear them.

It does look like AVG is responsible, but I'd not like to try and prove it.

I've got my emails back - 800+ of them!

Despite searches I couldn't find anything that looked relevant. Went to my K Personal Media Drive (which is set for an automatic weekly backup) and ticked the little box marked 'Restore all Files'. 30 mins later and we were back with everything where it should be! Oh joy!

This would have been so much easier if you'd said that you had a backup system that you used.

But for Outlook to be showing his emails there must be a pst file it is using.

Indeed. I'm wondering is it has created another and his emails are in a previous one?
