PD160 Metal Piping

Featured Replies

As you can see the PD160 is fitted with a metal pipe from the intercooler to the EGR, where as the PD130 is black plastic.

Does anyone know a part number and or price? I checked on ETKA online but it doesnt list the PD160

Is this just bling or does it have a functional purpose...?

should be easier to tap into for a boost gauge lol lol lol

 You'd want that as close as poss to the turbo outlet, and certainly not after a 90-degree bend. For something like that, I thought you'd blank the EGR and put the boost pressure sensor there? Then again, surely the ECU monitors boost on a VNT engine, so wouldn't you just splice into that? Or is the reading interpolated from the nozzle ring position?

not blanked off the EGR mate. I was told by tuning company (shall remain nameless), that this is the position that they would use........wasnt sure if it was right..

Its purely bling I think.. but if its a decent price might go for it.

As for the boost tap, I think its best done off the inlet manifold or EGR, the allard power pipe has a nipple in place for it IIRC

It's just kind of linked to this thread as far as pressure drops goes etc. If you wanted a true reading, you'd want it as close to the turbo outlet as possible, and without having to go round any bends. It would be possible to calculate the outlet pressure from a point further down if you new various parameters, but it would be a job for a smart instrument rather than a simple gauge...

OTOH, a boost gauge on a road car is only really a toy, so it's probably be possible to calibrate it accurately enough for that kind of use...

where about does the ecu measure boost? Is it the MAP sensor on the intercooler?

If that's the case, it's even further down the line (and therefore even less of a reflection of the true pressure!)
