Car park free for 30 minutes

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd mention that someone pointed out in a local forum, that in our local Pay & Display car park you still have to get a ticket if expecting to park free for 30 mins.

I didn't realise that, so have been lucky lots of times when just abandoning my car for thirty minutes.

It's in the small print rather than the big print on the sign, which you (meaning me) don't bother reading if the big print says Free for 30 mins.

Having paid for longer stays, it would never have occurred to me at all that a Pay & Display machine would issue a ticket if no money had been put into it. Quite beyond my natural comprehension in today's environment.

Yes, I know I'm dippy :)

Just hoping no-one gets caught out

Our local one allows you to press the button and get a ticket for the free 30 mins.

The PC World end of Stockport Peel Centre car park is free for 90 minutes as long as you get a ticket. The rest OF THE SAME CAR PARK doesn't give you any free time at all!

Go figure... :ne_nau:

Is this just a local council thing ?

Got caught out with this myself, but luckily the ticket chap erased the photo and tore up the slip as he claimed I was entitled to a few minutes to pick stuff up. Who would have thought it, me, charming!!!!;):D

The one I'm talking about is a private car park...

Only found out by chance - very convenient for me, as I seldom buy stuff with cash these days, and so don't often have change for meters...

i park the car walk to the machine, get a ticket and walk off and do my shop. if someone clamps me i will produce the ticket and say it fell off the window into the footwell ;) saves walking back to the car !!

I think you'll probably find that the requirement is to display a ticket, rather than to buy a ticket.

Actually, whilst we're on the subject of being caught out - or more particularly, catching oneself out - Sundays can be good ones.

Not for getting fines, but for putting money into Pay & Display machines when it's free on Sundays; or driving around forever for a parking space when you can park on single yellow lines on a Sunday in some places (depending on what the sign says).

FWIW, bus lanes always catch me out. When cars undertake in a bus lane whilst I'm in queueing traffic, my backseat driver son asks me why I don't do similar. "Der, cos it's a bus lane? (£120 instant fine.)" "Yeah, but it's only operative until 7pm."

Lots of  moments ;)

Yes and what are the requirements if it came unstuck on your window and fell on the floor

You get done for it. I got fined for non payment as mine was stuck to my side window and not the windscreen.
