backup and Synch - suggestions

Featured Replies

Family member requires some backup/synchronising software, and asked my suggestions.....I helpfully replied "buy an AppleMac"...........nil points......

So, any suggestions for a piece of software that will fit in with the following requirements:

1 - Must be Windows based.

2 - Must be able to backup to a removable hard drive, preferably in a non-proprietary format, because........

3 - must be able to transfer/work across a desktop, laptop and PDA environment.#

Suggestions.......currently eyeing up SyncBackSE or Genie Backup Manager Pro Vers 8.0.......Alternatives?

SyncToy

HTH :D

I thinking solely PDA and was going to say whats wrong with Activesync.

Just been reading synctoy, looks good :D

Anybody got a way to sync the contacts from a Windows Mobile XDA type thingy without installing outlook?

Gwilo, you can try Titan Backup it seems they have what you need.

Backup to virtually any storage device (including local and external disk drives, LAN, CD/DVD, removable USB devices, remote FTP servers, etc.)

Non-proprietary archive format. Titan Backup uses standard Zip archives (ZIP64), including self-extracting archives

Synchronize files and folders

Sync Tasks allow you to synchronize folders from different medias ( example: sync your USB stick with MP3 with your computer, or your laptop documents with your office desktop computer etc.).

Another vote for synctoy here, its not amazing but it certainly works.

Or write yourself a little batch file using xcopy :D Here is one you can use.. just add it as a scheduled task once its been edited with the correct paths.

backup_batch.zip

You will need to open the .bat file with something like notepad to edit it.
