Climatronic not always cooling .. ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just got my climatronic serviced because it was not cooling at all. On the way back from my mechanic the cooling was OK. The day after the aicondition didnt work again. 1 hour later I started the car again and cold air came out as it should.

Checked the climatronic for error codes but it says 444 00 which means no fauls?

Any ideas?

Yes you can feel some vibration on the gas pedal when the compressor is working ... but only hot air comes out.

Sometimes cold air come out as it is supposed to, and sometimes not

If the compressor is running properly, you've got refridgerant, and you're still only getting hot air, it can only be the control flap motors in the blender box, or the interior temperature sensor.

Try the "random pressing of Climatronic buttons" fix?

Just been in diagnose mode and the interior temperature sensor has a value (although im not shure it's the correct value). Where does the control flap motors sit?

Just been out starting the car (about and hour after I tried it for the first time today with hot air comming out) and cold air came out as it should. It was the same scenario yesterday

A proper climate control system consists of 3 main components, an air chiller, a heater and a blending box, which produces air at the required temperature (or hot or cold to achieve that temp).

The blending box has a number of flap valves on it to control proportions of hot and cold intake air, and direction(s) of output. In the Octy, it lives where the heater does in the low spec models.

Do you have a pic? ;)

Not even for my RHD car; your LHD one might vary anyway. For instance, where is your pollen filter? Mine is roughly behind the standard air cleaner location (under the LH windscreen base trim).

Mirror imaging seemed logical, but this is car design. (and car design by someone who doesn't understand the need for getting a male hand in at the back of headlights at that!)

Just got it checked by someone who said it could be the low/high pressure valve. Is it the one inside this box and is it a DIY job?

We tested the pressure and it was too high when there was hot air comming out (And when the climatronic was set to ex. 18 celcius). When there was cold air comming aout the pressure was OK.

Also, do I need to drain the system when changing the valve?

There's very little in aircon thet's really DIYable, largely because of pressures and potentially toxic substances. This where I'd start looking for an automotive aircon specialist if I were you (half the price of a Skoda dealer, who may just pass the job on to this guy then charge you their labour rates and parts prices).

  • 7 months later...

it's possible that whoever "serviced" your air con may have put in too much gas/oil this causes the same problem as not enough refridgerant. the trinary switch will not let the system work if pressure is too high or too low. If you paid them money to "service" it then take it back as they obviousely have not done the job correctly.
