refitting original tape player

Featured Replies

hi i want to refit my old tape player as the cd player i have in is playing up every day so i want to put it back in ( the cd player is a goodmans GCE7205USB. i have a few things im not sure about

1, i have had a amp and sub put in since i have put my cd player in and dont know if the tape player has the connections to work them

2, i dont have the removal keys is there a cheaper alternative to get the cd player out

3, and lastly do i need to take the battery out to do the change over

step by step help would be a great

1. It depends on how old the cassette player is and how standard the car is. If the player has an ISO connection block as pictured in a sticky on this forum, and the CD is not original equipment, you'll probably be OK.

2. Go to a car electronics place and ask to borrow their keys. If you're only parked outside the chances are they will let you, or will do it themselves.

3. Probably not unless you have problems with #1.

Why would you want to go back to such out-dated technology when you can pick up a cheap, good quality CD player, eg Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion etc.

Even when it's working correctly, a Goodmans is only really suitable for use as a door-stop.

If you go to www.CarAudioSecurity.com they have a Sony head unit on offer right now which will play Cds / MP3 / Tuner.

It costs £39 with a 6 month warranty. (The cost of 3 cds).

It will sound far better than your Goodmans ever did, and you need never listen to a cassette ever again .......

i only want it for my i pod not tapes cds are cluttering my car at the mo lol the usb drive only plays a selection of albums on my usb stick even though it's a 8 gig drive

Thinking out of the box, you don't actually need a head-unit.

Get a blanking plate, put a 3.5mm socket in it and wire it to the line-in on the amp. You may need a volume control too, if the iPod volume control doesn't work, but that's easy too.

On the other hand, a blanking plate may cost as much as a cheap head-unit, and you'd need to solder.
