MFD2 - thanks Stu

Featured Replies

Just a quick note to say cheers to Stu for helping me with my new MFD2 (well, used off eBay etc etc).

In fact, I would recommend naviandbmwparts from Lithuania as the supplier. Well priced, good condition, well packed and 5 day delivery (Mon to Fri).

Not very good photos, but I am too happy with unit to wait until the morning to take proper photos (so mobile phone camera will have to do)

If anyone wants an almost 1 year old STREAM MP3 unit please PM me.

Looking good. How much if I may ask?

No problem mate, didn't really require much input from me just the wonder of VAG-COM :P

Glad you could make the meet last night, does this mean we have a new regular?

Edit - Now sticking my nasty moderator head on I'm afraid you can't advertise your items for sale unless you join Freedom. The joining of Freedom is normally a condition of my doing the VAG-COM so it'll be worth it for you

The MFD2 is a 2006 build unit and was 299 + 38 P&P. No scratches/unmarked. Very well packed in bubble wrap, polystyrene and box (which is handy to store the old Stream MP3 in aswell).

Included DX Nav disc for UK, code card and new GPS receiver. Sent on Monday, received Friday AM.

Followed VRStu's install guide (which is probably what the thanks are for aswell) and made the MY 2007 adaptation for AUX and 6CD use.

The install is literally "plug and play", even the MY2007 adaptation only requires clicking out three wires and snapping into place in the new carrier plug.

Make sure the quadlock is fully locked in :o before putting everything back together.

I would advise putting masking tape etc over face of climate control unit below to prevent scratching the buttons etc on install of new unit as you wiggle it in.

I sticky padded the GPS receiver to the underside of the dashboard hump behind dash-top box - gets upto all 8 GPS signal strength indicator pips. The GPS receiver has enough cable to rull the length of the car, so this position requires the excess to be coiled up. I taped/tie-wrapped the cable in a tidy coil and wrapped in a bit of old fabric to stop it vibrating. The coil can then sit below the dash-top box .

:)

One last thing, if you want to order a replacement nav trim for vRS (silver+climate) it is about £13.24+VAT and you must order the "L" variant (two show on EKTA with no difference but price - the other is £24+VAT). The "Q" variant has the slot for a phone cradle.

1Z0 858 069 L 2AU = NO SLOT

If you need MY2007 AUX adapter use 12 Pin Green Flat Contact Housing (Plug) Radio/Telephone Connection

3B7 035 447 B - £3.38

You do not need 18 pin plug (Stu can you amend Octavia-vrs.com?)

I have succumbed: "You can take my £12, but you can't take my FREEDOM !" [/scottish-Amercan-Australian accent]

PS I think one of these is due (again) ;)

Didn't hurt too much did it :D

I should add that although I am condidered to be the Freedom Grim Reaper there is no financial gain for anyone other than to support the huge running costs of Briskoda.net

OK, OK enough of the emotional blackmail.

I have been a member for a year now, reading, writing and having a good time and learning lots of useful (and not so useful!) stuff on the forum.

So it is right we pay something to the the forums upkeep, without which the server would have its electricity cut off etc etc.

And there is the bubbly at the shareholders meeting to be paid for (only joking!) :P

im very tempted to order one from ebay but havent got the courage to rip my car apart to install it,

do you thnk a volkswagon garage will fit it for me?.

Possibly - It really does depend on the dealership attitude.

Are you maybe near one of the members who done one already - Maybe get some help there.

If you want to store an off site back up of some european disks for the MFD2, I know a man who has some ;)

Can I ask what level of detail does the MFD2 go into for Navigation.

How does it compare with, say TomTom and the like.

Is it a 3d view or 2d.

CD or DVD disks for navigation?

What are the latests disks available?

Does the boot changer/aux port in jumbo box still work?

Does the PDC show in the display at all?

Thanks, Steve

All the answers are in this thread mate http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-ii/mfd2/62383/ and on stu's site

i havent got maxi dot or climate control will it still work?

and do i need to buy anything else to make it fit

It should still work. I have seen it work on a non-maxidot car and the climate should have no relevance.

ok, you should only need 15 mins to do this.

disconnect vehicle battery negative

1) prize off top box (credit card and fingers to pop off clips)

2) prize off radio/air con trim (ditto above)

3) remove screw covers on radio

4) T15 "star" screw driver to remove 4 screws holding in radio

5) pull out radio (taking care not to scratch air con buttons) and disconnect aerial and quadlock connector

6) stick gps receiver in place in top box area and connect to mfd

7) connect aerial and quadlock to mfd

8) slot in mfd and screw in

9) clip on new trim

10) pop top box back in

reconnect battery

You actually only remove one piece of trim, top box and the radio itself!
