More VRS Tdi questions ....

Is the estate any heavier than the hatchback and does this have much of an impact on MPG and performance ?

Does the estate drive / handle the same as the Hatchback ?

I've read that with consitant 'spirited' driving 35+ mpg is still easily achievable is this really true ? the reason I ask is that I like to 'press on' so if a heavy right foot doesn't cause mpg to dive drastically this may well be the car for me.

and finally, a bit of a random one, is their an issue with race blue paint ? My previous petrol Octy II vrs was black and didn't suffer badly with stonechips at all. Went to see a blue estate yesterday which was showroom condition bar the bonnet and part of the front wings. was peppered in stone chips ?? It's a really nice spec car and I'm tempted to buy it but the paint is concerning me.

Thanks chaps

a little bit and not as much as you would notice. Check the 'book' figures in the brochure/website.

Pretty much the same. If you have a TDI vRS Estate the extra weight in the back will balance the heavier TDI engine and perhaps provide a slightly more neutral handling balance.

That's about right for the vRS TFSI. Expect c.45mpg from the vRS TDI.

Stone chips are a hazard with any colour paint. Ask your dealer to touch them in and perhaps then get something like VentureShield to protect the bonnet etc.

The weight difference is 15kg.

So about the same as 1/4 take of fuel, or a fire bucket full of sand [fill in random similar weighted item of your choice].

The weight is out the back, so as mentioned balances up heavy diesel better (not quite 50/50 ultimate driving machine etc). I am convinced it handles nicer, but then I would.

I would say the TDI PD 170 should return mid fourties overall. I drive fast, (35 mpg) but alternate with 50+ mpg motorway runs, so they balance out.

Yes, there is an issue with blue paint, it aint black :P

Thanks for the replies,

So broadly if I keep my foot down I'll only drop to around 35mpg, very encouraging.

My question re the stone chips (and paint colour) is that my previous black TFSI didn't suffer too badly at all, but the blue one I looked at had suffered badly

Perhaps they use a different undercoat for black vs electric blue. Also, the black is technically pearlescent, wheareas every other metallic is, erm, metallic. This presumably gives the paints slightly different properties, wouldt know if they helped in chipping though.

If you really hoon a vRS TDI with max accelleration, max revs and then full braking (ie back road "rallying" style), then I have seen low twenties (23/24 mpg). But drive sensibly after a hoon and it will miraculously get back to 40+ average.
